Chapter 38 - Chapter 37

"Let's test it out. "Roan muttered as he got out of bed. He had been sitting on the bed after creating the spell construct for three hours now. He had started at around noon and now it was only a couple of hours away from night. So, Roan guessed that the spell construct should have stabilized by now.

He exited the inn and walked towards the outer wall. He couldn't try his spell inside the town. So he had to find some secluded place outside the town.

Around ten minutes later, Roan arrived at the grassland outside the town. He glanced around and paused at a small patch of trees a bit away from him. That was the place.

He approached the small forest which was around 50 metres wide. The trees were tall and thick and had a thick canopy. But the foliage wasn't as dense as Mervielle's.

Dry leaves crunched beneath Roan's feet as the sound of trees rustling due to the wind permeated the air. It felt peaceful.

Roan let out a sigh and entered a bit deeper and stopped after he could see the end. This patch of trees was around hundred metres long. Not enough to be called a forest but enough to mask Roan's movements.

Roan then chose a sturdy tree as his target and got ready to cast the spell.

First, he had to imagine the spell construct and then feed it ether. And that was it. An ether bullet then would appear on his hand which he could release at high speed at will.

Roan then did as he had read in the book, eyes on the tree in front of him. As Roan thought of the spell construct, It manifested in his right hand which he brought in Infront of him. He already knew that the spell construct would appear. Otherwise, he might have lost focus.

He then transferred some of his ether to his hand which the spell construct quickly absorbed and started glowing brightly. A small ball of white light formed on his outstretched palm. That was the ether bullet.

"Wow. "Roan exclaimed as he stared at his brightly flashing hand. He then aimed his hand at the tree which he had chosen as his target and said, "Release. "

'swoosh. ' Sound of something cutting through the air and then......

'Bang' Splinters of wood shot in all directions, some even hitting Roan who stood there with an astonished face. He was feeling surprised which was a surprising event in of itself but even more surprising was the Spell's effects.

There was a big hole in the trunk of the tree at least five centimetres wide, almost covering the whole trunk. He went near the tree to examine the damage and realised that the ether bullet had almost come out of the back of the tree.

"What power? " Roan muttered as he looked at the destruction caused by the spell and then at his trembling hands. The spell construct had vanished and he could feel his hand heating up, a side effect of casting a spell.

Roan stood there clutching his trembling hands. The emotions of surprise and glee he had felt before had vanished but he could taste them a little. He knew what he should feel, happy but couldn't. He let out a smile which was now become a habit and a coping mechanism for his lack of emotions.

This test had given him a lot of knowledge on what kind of power a magus held and the reason they were so rare. They should be rare considering the power a magus had.

A cantrip spell, the simplest spell was this powerful. It could probably kill even a knight with leather armour in one shot. So Roan couldn't even imagine how powerful the basic and advanced spells were.

Roan wished he could try those spells but couldn't. He was a Neophyte which meant that he could only house at most one or two cantrips and only barely a single basic spell. As for the advanced ones, he shouldn't even be thinking about that at the moment.

"It's enough for now. I don't need higher rank spells. Another cantrip would be good enough and I also need to improve my ether pool..... Meditation. " Roan sighed after thinking about meditation. He seemed to keep forgetting to meditate. He had probably only meditated once or twice after arriving at Fayoor town.

"I need to turn it into a habit."Roan thought as he returned to town. Sun was about to dip through the horizon and warm golden rays permeated every blade of grass on the grassland. P

Roan had achieved a lot today but tomorrow was an even bigger day. He had to go find an escort job and earn some money.
