Mama shouted as she attempted to ask many questions at the same time. Now, we just realized that she was back, and were startled by her voice, so we rushed to the scene. Meanwhile, Evans and I were thinking of how to salvage the situation, but we were only trying to turn Mama into a killer with our sluggishness in acknowledging the degree of our mistakes.
Now, Mama, who was too nervous and angry, began to yell abuses at him while Beck abused her too. In that game, one cannot compare Mama with Mr. Beck Aaron when it comes to the use of abusive and vulgar languages. He had been a troublemaker right from his mother’s womb. He talked and fought like a silly woman, and he became worst as he got older and dejected.
“Are you the only one who is entitled to visit her? Is she not my daughter too? Did you buy her from the market?”
Mr. Aaron asked simultaneously, not minding how she would feel. Now, he got off the bed and stood in a manner that said. 'If Mama felt like fighting him, he was up to it'. He was more hardened than before, as he was naturally a shameless person.
“So, you are just realizing that I am your daughter? Where were you when she was raising us?”
I asked, not minding my husband’s presence.
“I did not ask her to raise my children for me. She should have left you where I kept you, but she chose to prostitute and train you and your siblings.”
Mr. Aaron spatted off with his dirty and smelling mouth.
“What! My mother? A prostitute?”
I rushed at him, but Evans held me back.
Now, Mama was already sobbing at the word 'prostitute'.
"You are leaving this house this minute.”
I thundered as I forced my way and picked up his empty sack.
“I am not going anywhere.”
He barked while struggling to snatch the bag from me. Then, Mama withdrew to the children’s room while crying to avoid any more harsh words from the intruder.
Meanwhile, Evans, had managed to separate us. From the look of things, he came prepared for anything, as life had not been fair to him either. At that point, we could not do otherwise, as he was not looking like someone who could be controlled. So, we left the guest room and focused on Mama in the children's room while thinking of what next to do.
“Take it easy, mama.”
“Calm down, mama. We will handle this problem once and for all.”
“Thank you, my daughter. Thank you, my in-law.”
Mama appreciated as Evans and I consoled her, and she promised to be fine before retiring to our room. Meanwhile, she stayed with the children for the meantime.
However, due to the quandary caused by the visit of the intruder, we could not think of food, and we all went to bed that night sad and hungry.
‘I can feel Mama's pain. Every so often, I wonder if the children were really his. They were all well-behaved, all the three of them. Maybe I should not have allowed him into the house in the first place. Perhaps I should have taken him to a hotel or sent him away, no matter the consequences. He is leaving this house first thing in the morning.’
Evans concluded, as many 'may bes' beclouded his mind.
At the Children's Room
“Sorry grandma. It is unclear to me why George allowed him into the house without waiting for daddy to come back.”
Lillian said as she attempted to gather her grandma's hairs that were scattered together.
“It was not my fault. He told me he had spoken with daddy and that he asked him to come over and wait for him. He also showed me daddy's number on his old phone”
Explained George, who was already sad due to guilt.
“No problem, it's not your fault, my son. Just cheer up. I will be fine.”
Mama said, trying to calm them down.
Meanwhile, it was obvious that there would be no fresh fish pepper soup for the family that day. The arrival of the intruder had changed the atmosphere. As a matter of fact, he was not also interested in food. What he came for was more important to him than food. After all, if he succeeds, he could eat whatever he wanted and any time he wished to.
Now, the children could not continue with their game either. George moved to the second room upstairs, while Mama and Lillian shared the bed. She was unable to have her bathe or change to her night wear, so she went to sleep with the very clothes she wore to the market. Very disgusting.
End of Sarah's Perspective.
Meanwhile, many thoughts came to Mama's mind. For how long will she continue to suffer because of that heartless man? She lost her precious baby because of him.
Besides, he made life unbearable for them whenever any of her daughters wanted to get married. All thanks to his brothers who stood by her.
His elder brother, Mr. Emma Aaron, never supported him. He tried to make him see the reason he should be calm and wait on God for a male child, but he was adamant.
When Uju, her second daughter, wanted to get married, he openly told Fredrick Ikenna, the would-be husband, that he was doomed because she would produce only girls for him just like her mother.
“Can't you check out a productive lady with male producing womb? I wouldn't have you complain in the near future.”
He did not hide his resentment towards his daughters, even before their suitors. His derogatory words about his wife and daughters were capable of scaring the suitors away.
Then, Fredrick's father spoke.
“Well, I may disappoint you, Mr. Aaron because we are not pulling out. I trust my son's judgment, and I know that he had chosen the woman that he could share the rest of his life with. Furthermore, I will only give them my blessings.”
