While in the kitchen, she lit the gas cooker and got the frying pan, emptied the three liters of vegetable oil into it and allowed it to heat.
While she watched the oil heat up, she muttered.
'I have endured enough, Mr. Beck Aaron, it is time for you to endure too.’
When the vegetable oil was hot to her satisfaction, she carried it gently with a pad and headed towards the guest room. Then, she pushed the door gently with her elbow and tiptoed into the room. Although, the lights were off, but she could see her prey on the bed with the rays of the light from the security lights outside. Then, she walked on. For the first time, she hated the size of the room because she needed to take a good number of steps before she could get to the bed. Now, the heat from the oil was not helping matters, either. She was worried that the oil may get cold, or the heat reduced, thereby not allowing her to achieve her aim.
Meanwhile, Beck had stopped snoring. Mama also stopped suddenly and observed her prey to ascertain what he was up to. Then, he opened his eyes as if sensing that someone was in the room, but it was already too late for him.
“Beck, go to hell," she declared. Before now, he had never thought of the capabilities of his opponents. When he set out to embark on that trip, he did not consider how Sarah and her husband would feel. Rather, he felt that they were too civil to harm anyone, so, he never bothered about his safety. To him, his wife and daughters were minors who he could molest and abuse whenever he deemed fit. Whether they were bitter with him or not, never bothered him.
“I'm dead, oh!” He screamed in agony. Suddenly, Evans ran out of his bedroom to the guest room before Sarah could gather herself together and ran after him as soon as they heard him screaming.
Then, Sarah saw him running back to the room as though he had seen a ghost. He was so confused that he attempted to do many things at the same time. To get his handset, to get the car key, to call the doctor, and raise his in-law from the floor where he was writhing in pain.
“What happened? Why was he screaming?” Sarah asked her husband. Rather than answer her question, he let out an exclamation of anguish.
“Oh my God! What kind of thing is this?”
When she could not get an answer from him, she decided to help herself by finding out. While, she headed for the guest room, she heard her mother's voice from the children's room and her children were crying too. Now, she was torn between two opinions. To get to the children’s room and pacify her children and her mother who was upset, or go to the guest room to check on Mr. Aaron. Before she could decide the appropriate thing to do, she found herself in the guest room and got the answer the hard way.
“I have had enough. It is better I kill you before you kill me or any of my children again. I can go to jail…”
“Oh! My mother!”
Now, her scream interrupted her mother, who was complaining aloud. Then, she got up and rushed to the guest room to see what had happened to her.
However, it happened that Sarah ran out of her room without her footwear because her concentration was on finding out what was happening to Beck and why mama was upset. Then, she ran into the room only to step on the oil infested tiles and landed on the floor, hitting her head hard on the wall. Afterward, she passed out on that instant.
“Hey! Is this how I'm going to lose my daughter again? How many times will I bury a child because of this man?”
Her mother lamented. Now, Mr. Aaron was already unconscious, he had stopped screaming and was giving up. Then, Evans, who almost cursed the day he became Mr. Aaron's in-law, was weakened by his wife's condition. How was he going to cope? He had no access anymore to the company's clinic. How will he transport two people to the hospital? Besides, his accounts were frozen.
Now, his thought was interrupted by the 'ding-dong' sound from the doorbell, announcing the presence of a stranger. Meanwhile, although he was confused, he had successfully placed a call to him a few minutes ago.
“That must be Dr. Prince Dixon.”
He muttered. Dr. Prince Dixon was the only person he could call upon at a time like this, and he would respond without asking questions. He was his friend and colleague – the Medical Director at the company's clinic. All the same, he opened the door for him to come in. Now, the time was a few minutes past midnight.
The look that the doctor saw on Evans's face spoke volume, and the distressed call from him was enough for the doctor to know that all was not well. Then, he quietly led the doctor to the guest room for him to see things for himself.
"What is going on here?”
Dr. Dixon inquired with surprise and fear. He looked at Evans for a clue, but none came.
Now, he saw Beck on the floor, unconscious. Then, Mama was cleaning Sarah up and ensuring that she did not move and cause more damage to her bones.
However, Dr. Prince Dixon could not figure out what happened, but he saw enough to conclude that death could be knocking on someone's door.
“You take a seat Evans, I will handle it”
Dr. Dixon advised. He was aware of the bond between Evans and his wife. Seeing her in that condition that week, after he lost his job the
previous week, was not a palatable incident. It was enough to make him lose his mind.
However, it was no use taking the victims to the company's clinic because it would trigger mockery from Evans's haters.
