Although, all his family members were entitled to medical care, but the General Manager revoked that privilege. As the Medical Director, he could take the initiative to treat the patients there and wait for the reaction of Mr. Angus, but he chose not to create more problems for Mr. Owens.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dixon had a private hospital and when he got a distressed call from Evans, he went along with an ambulance and that eased the trouble of transporting the victims. Then, Mr. Beck and Sarah were taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Promise Land Clinic. On entering the hospital, the atmosphere changed. The staff on duty were all shocked to behold the face of Beck, but the only person who was composed was his assistant, whom he went to the house with. Then, some workers thought that Beck was dead because his face was beyond recognition. The flesh had shrank and the blisters were broken on their own, and his breathing was shallow. After their admission, Evans, who had accompanied them to the hospital, returned to meet his children and his mother-in-law at about 5 am.
Now, everything was meaningless to everyone, especially to George and Lilian. They had promised their friend, Chris, that they would meet again that Tuesday, but from the look of things, that would not be possible. Meanwhile, he had no idea of what explanation to give to his friend regarding what had happened in his home after the last time they trained.
'Grandma's visit'
'Grandpa's visit'
'Displacement of Grandma from the guest room'
'Grandpa bathed with hot oil'
'Mummy fainted'
Those occurrences were better described as 'ONE WEEK, ONE TROUBLE'.
Concerning his admission, he was not even aware whether he was successful or not. Who will he ask? Presently, there was no forum to ask his dad or mum.
“How are they?”
Mama asked as she walked to the door to open it for Mr. Owens. She was actually trying to ask ‘how is my daughter’. As for Mr. Aaron, he could be 'anyhow' for all she cared.
“Good morning Mama. I will be going back as soon as I take my bath and have my breakfast.”
Evans answered, not caring whether that was the right response to give to her question or not. At least he gave an answer.
Now, their house began to host visitors, mostly their relations. Ada and Uju came from their various homes to take care of Mama and their sister. Frank, the seven years old boy who Evans gave some money the day he visited his in-law and met the door locked, also came from outside the country. As for him, Evans and Sarah were the only parents he had. The heat of the quandary was on Evans, but Frank's appearance brought some relief to everyone, especially George and Lilian, who could discuss freely with him.
“Why would you allow him to spend a second in your house, Evans, after all he did to you during your marriage preparations?”
Asked Evans's elder sister, Obioma, who came as soon as Evans informed her.
“If you must host him, why not accommodate him in a hotel?”
Asked Ada.
“Especially when you were aware that Mama was around.”
Chipped in Uju.
Howbeit, Evans was absent-minded, and he did not respond to their questions. Meanwhile, when Mama visited Mr. Beck at the hospital, she discovered that his condition was critical and something urgent needed to be done. Now, she was filled with regrets. That was the difference between her and her ex-husband, who did not regret any of his actions. She could not describe what was troubling her. Naturally, she was not a strong hearted person, and incapable of hurting anyone. She had never thought of doing anything to hurt her husband and the father of her children, but in that case, she had a feeling that she did not do the right thing.
'Why should I think that I did the right thing when the father of my children is about to die. Besides, I am responsible for his death?’
She murmured. Now, her thoughts wandered around. She could not cry because she had cried all her life because of him. But she was still not comfortable.
By the time she got back to Sarah's ward, she was not herself. She had lost so much weight within just a few days.
On Wednesday, Sarah was discharged. The Computerized Tomography scan proved that there was no internal bleeding or dislocation. Moreover, there was no brain injury because no concussion or Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) occurred as the impact of her fall was not severe on her. But, Mr. Aaron's health was deteriorating, despite the team of doctors who Dr. Dixon invited to assist. His case was rated a Third-Degree Burn or Full Thickness Burn, which was associated with severe risk of complications. Now, his nerves were seriously damaged. Likewise, Evans and Sarah came back that day after she was discharged. Meanwhile, Frank had been helpful as he served as the driver and caregiver. Before their mother was discharged, he took them to the hospital each time he went visiting. He also helped George to recover from his shock quicker than he could think of. Although, the damage had been done, but the experience affected his love life when he came of age.
“George, stop blaming yourself. It's not your fault.”
Frank comforted him.
“Uncle, if only I was smart enough to put a call across to mummy or daddy, it would have saved a lot of the situation”
“Well, you're right, but you can't continue to be hard on yourself. Besides, it has happened, and you can't do anything about it now.”
Frank had always been their 'Big Uncle' and he hates to see any of them worried. So with him around, he would ensure that they were comfortable.
“Shall we go out for Taekwondo training?”
He suggested and waited for their reactions.
“Yeeeeesss.”
They shouted enthusiastically, and Frank looked on happily.
