“Mrs. Owens, can you prepare the food alone? I can assist you do that if you don't mind. I don’t really have much to do at home.”
Although, Mrs. Owens did not object verbally to her offer, but the unsatisfactory look on her face spoke volume. Then, she ignored it and continued with her quest to spend more time with her.
“You know you are not yet strong enough to carry out stressful tasks.”
The beloved, nice and caring staff member, volunteered. While Sarah thought of how to respond to her offer, her husband yelled.
“Sarah.”
“Yes, dear. Kindly give me a moment.”
Sarah answered. Then, she looked into Mrs. Eze's eyes to dismiss her, but she came up with another excuse.
“Oh! Mr. Owens, you didn't even offer me anything. This is very much unlike you.”
Now, Sarah's countenance changed, and she quickly declared.
“Have a nice day, Mrs. Eze.”
Without waiting for her response, she walked briskly into the house and banged the door.
'You can remain there if it pleases you.'
She mumbled. Then, Mama, who had grown lean because of the stress that she had passed through in the past few days, walked to the parlor to meet her.
“Sarah, what kind of friend do you have here?”
“Mama, she is not my friend, please. She was my colleague in my former school before she began working for me, and she is just like that. Disregard her please.”
Sarah explained and her mother chuckled. Then, she inquired.
“I hope she won't broadcast all that she had seen in your house?”
“Oh! That is certain, especially on the issue of wedding in the church. I pray that she would say it in the presence of my chief bride’s maid.”
“Or in the presence of the priest, who wedded you”
Mama added. They laughed heartily while she joined her husband in the bedroom.
Currently, Frank had taken the children out for a driving lesson. George had turned eighteen, and he was legally qualified to drive.
In the Bedroom
“Finally, she has gone.”
Evans asked with concern.
“Yes, finally.”
“How do you cope with this kind of staff?”
Evans requested. Then, he chuckled and responded.
“She can't try this in school. She only took advantage of the situation and visited my house. All the same, thank you for coming to my rescue."
“You are welcome. Be careful with her. She may influence other staff members, you got it?”
Evans, who was afraid that bad company would always corrupt good manners, warned.
“I got it, dear.”
Now, she observed that he was working online. He attempted to apply for Medical Visas for Mr. Beck Aaron and Frank, the caregiver who would accompany him to India. It was a tedious task because he had no required documents, not even a National Identification Number.
“Hubby, how are you going to do with the application since he doesn't have any of the required documents?”
Sarah asked with worries. Now, her husband gave her a soothing smile and elucidated
“Dr. Dixon had contacted the hospital in India. If we can't scale through with the visa, we may have the specialists flown into the country as early as possible.”
Now, Sarah could not help but gave him a passionate kiss because he was so good and caring. Then he reciprocated to her kiss with a prolonged one. They had been far apart since he lost his job, and the trouble that her father's unplanned visit brought. So, that was an opportunity to express his bottled up emotions. Then, he stood up and pulled her closer, and they engaged in a breathtaking kiss. Now, his left hand was inside her sleeveless top, and he caressed her nipples, which made her to get wet instantly.
“I miss your love, Evans.”
Sarah muttered.
“Same with me. I will make it up to you.”
“Thank you.”
“I love you, Sarah.”
He assured her, and he did. They could not let go of each other for the next two hours.
Afterwards, they continued with the arrangement to fly Beck abroad for surgery. Little did they know that a shocker awaited them.
On Wednesday. At Anambra State – Eastern Nigeria.
“Mr. Emma Aaron, I greet you and greet whatever that goes on errands for you. When greeting gets to the person it is familiar with, it gets tired, but I will not get tired of greeting an honest and hardworking man like you.”
The Chief Priest, had his peculiar way of greeting his elders. Even though he was a Chief Priest of the deity in the community, he recognized that respect is reciprocal. He accorded his elders the respect due them. Nevertheless, Mr. Emma Aaron, Beck's elder brother, and Sarah's uncle, was one of the elders he held with high regards.
“Who is that greeter who will not allow me to wake up and observe my quiet time before barging into my house?”
Yelled Mr. Aaron, who felt disturbed.
Emma was a well-respected man in the community. He neither drinks himself to stupor nor womanizes. Neither does he cheat people of their hard-earned money. He was upright as much as possible. There was a common saying among the citizens:
(If you are searching for the truth, go to the house of Mr. Emma Aaron; if you can’t find it there, it means that it had left the community.)
Now, the Chief Priest had paid him a surprise visit. Such visits are rare and connoted tragedy. The impact of such visit had the same impact as the visit of a python where it was revered. It had to be treated and adored, regardless of how one felt about it. Sometimes, despite your opinions about the python, you are expected to sing its praise; calling it names like, the protector of our land and so on just to pacify it.
If for any reason you kill it, or it was found dead in your compound or vicinity, you are expected to perform a burial and arrange the funeral rites as you would do for a human being. The consequences of failing to do that were better not imagined. A whole family could be wiped out at a go.
