Now, the three looked at each, and mama's countenance changed. Mr. Emma noticed the gloominess on their faces and asked.
“What is the matter? I hope he had not harmed any of the children with the charm?”
At that instance, Evans sat up from his couch and narrated how he got a call from him that Monday Morning. At last, mama summarized how he died in the early hours of that day. After listening to their stories, he looked at Evans and inquired.
“Did I hear you say you planned to send him to India for treatment?”
Evans, who was not aware that he was being sarcastic, responded with enthusiasm
“Yes, my in-law. As a matter of urgency, he would have been transferred the next day if not for the absence of the required documents.”
Then, Uncle Emma shook his head in dejection and inquired rhetorically.
“So, after wasting his life during his youth, he wanted to reap where he did not sow by manipulating his daughter and her husband?”
'Is that all he would say?'
Sarah, who hoped to hear her uncle accuse her mother of killing his brother, muttered.
“Where is his corpse now?”
He asked again. Then, Evans responded.
“He had been deposited in the morgue.”
Now, Uncle Emma blurted out.
“That is his India. Instead of him to die wretched as he ought to, he decided to cause problems for his young children. How can you send him to India for treatment when he brought the problem upon himself?”
Although, they were sober, but smiled inwardly at Emma's assertion. Then Sarah pleaded on behalf of her mother.
“Uncle, thank you for coming. We were thinking of how the elders in the village would react before you came. Now that you are here, I wish to plead that you present the matter to them in the manner that would not attract their wrath against my mother.”
Then Uncle Emma passed a verdict that shocked them.
“Nobody will be offended with her for defending her children. Do you know where you would have been by now if she did not strike before he struck?”
Meanwhile, Evans, who was listening to him, was nodding his head in the affirmative. Then, he spoke.
“You are right, my in-law. Anybody in mama's shoes would have behaved otherwise. Besides, he did not inform me that he was coming to my house.”
“How can he inform you when he came with evil intentions? He was aware that you would not welcome him, that was why he barged on you, which is against the law.”
Now, Evans and his wife burst into hearty laughter despite the heaviness of their hearts. Then Sarah teased.
“Uncle Emma, when did you become a lawyer?”
“Are you just asking? All the cases I have handled for your father are enough to earn me a promotion to the position of a Judge.”
He defended without laughing. The three laughed again as mama could not help laughing. Then he turned to Ugo and asked.
“Ugo, when are you returning to the village?”
“Tomorrow.”
She responded at once. Then, Evans, who wanted to laugh the more, resolved to tickle his sense of humor, so he pulled his legs.
“Yes, she will return tomorrow to organize a befitting burial for her husband and your brother.”
Afterwards, Evans smirked and waited for his response with an impish look. Now, Mr. Emma glared at him and retorted.
“A befitting burial indeed. Befitting burial is meant for a befitting person, and not for a wastrel like my brother.”
Before he could conclude his claim, the family had erupted into raucous laughter. Then, Evans remarked.
“Indeed, you should have been a Chief Justice by now, my in-law.”
“I'm glad you are aware of my capability.”
After their chat, Sarah served him his meal, which he appreciated with his funny jokes.
“My in-law, thank you for the meal. I have benefited from oil and gas money, today. The foodstuffs I eat it in the village do not taste as good as this.”
Then, Evans smiled and inquired.
“What is the difference, my in-law?”
Evans, who was in love with his company, requested with glee.
“The difference is that I am eating it close to the Oil Well.”
They laughed hysterically, and Mr. Emma retired to the guest room after his meal.
The next day, Evans took Mama and Mr. Emma, to the airport after much persuasion. He took along with him his late brother's bag. When they got to the airport, he was amazed with the serenity of the place, and he asked.
“Do you mean I am going to board an aircraft?”
“Certainly, Callum will wait for you at the Enugu airport.”
“So, my brother's death had made me to board an aircraft for the first time in my life?”
They laughed again before Evans returned to the Residential Area to meet his wife, who was busy preparing for George's resumption.
At the Enugu Airport.
After one hour of boarding the aircraft, they landed at the Enugu Airport and waited for Callum. After, twenty minutes, his aircraft arrived too.
“Good morning, mama. Good morning, my in-law.”
Callum greeted as he joined them at the lobby.
“Good morning, my son. How is your family?”
“My family is fine, mama. I hope your trip was not stressful?”
“Not at all.”
Now, Uncle Emma, who was baffled with the fact that he was in Enugu, already responded.
“Good morning, my in-law, how are you?”
“I am fine, my in-law. I can see that your trip was smooth.”
“Why won't my journey be smooth? After I got into the white man's bird, I rested my head on the chair to sleep like I did when I was coming yesterday, only for a beautiful lady to tap me asked me what I needed.”
Callum chuckled and explained while mama, who was familiar with traveling by flights, looked on.
“Yes, my in-law, that was the flight attendant. She wanted to be certain that you are comfortable.”.
