Chapter 12
Henry Pov:
We had finally gotten to the last checkpoint. There was nothing else to search and the location where we were suspecting monsters to be congregating was clear. Sadly there were none for us to fight most of the way which in and of it itself was suspicious.
"Hey, Henry, want to join us for a game of Reversi!," A knight called out to me, they had brought games to fill in when we had nothing to do. Reversi was an old game and had basic and easy to learn rules. You had white and black pieces, one person white and the other black. You cross over the opponents and take their piece and that's pretty much it.
"Sure, it's not like I have anything better to do," I call out when I actually did, I could work on designing something. You see I liked to improve on stuff and create things, I tend to tinker in my off time.
We play a couple of games, everyone losing eventually before setting off. Since me Theo and Hannah joined without permission, we don't have any information on stuff around here. So we tend to explore against the majority wishes. "Hey, guys, let's go check over here!," Theo calls pointing out a dot on the bottom of the glacier a mile ahead.
"Was that there before?," Reynold calls to the Commander as he takes note of what we saw.
"No, it wasn't, men we are going to check that out! You three, since you found it, you can lead the way, but be careful," The Commander tells us and we continue and snow starts to fall.
"So, what do you think it is, Hannah?," Theo asks my sister.
"I honestly don't know, what do you think it is Theo?," Hannah asks back.
"Probably just a rock, there is nothing else it could be," Theo says calmly.
"What do you think Henry?," Hannah asks me.
"It's probably a cave into the Glacier, though I don't get why it would be showing up. That should only happen if water of a higher temperature is running against it. Or if a monster was breaking it to get out so we should expect Trouble," I say which makes all the knights get tense for some reason and Theo and Hannah to stop in their tracks. "What, it's the most dangerous thing that could happen, that's why I said it. You should always fear the worst in situations like this," I finish.
"Ok, but we should still be on guard," Reynold says putting a hand on my shoulder. We move forward and when we are about 1000 feet away there is a Rumble. "What is that?," Reynold yells to the Knight Commander.
"It's an avalanche, look that dot we saw is a cave, run towards it!," He yells to which we all follow, we are only about 250 feet away when the avalanche is right on top of us!
"We're going to die!," A knight yells.
"No, your not, Firewall!!," Someone else yells and we look to see a boy, maybe a man in front of us. It's a Beast-kin, like most of us, but I can't tell which kind yet, or how old he is through this snow, but he is the one casting the spell. "Get into the cave now, you imbeciles, or do you want to be breakfast for the avalanche, I can't keep this up forever!," He yells making me realize everyone stopped in their tracks.
We start running and once we are in the cave, it is blocked off by the avalanche. "Well, that's just great, we are stuck in here until we can dig our way out. An we don't even know if there are any enemies down this cave!," The knight commander grumbles.
"Well, there are a lot of monsters down at the end, but this isn't the only exit," The Beast-kin that had saved us said as he lit a torch. Looking closer he is my age, but older and taller at seven foot, dwarfing my height of five foot eight, but I still can't tell what Beast-kin he is. He had Dirty blonde hair, torn clothes normally used by commoners, blue-green eyes, and a Overcoat?
"Who are you, why did you save us, and where have you brought us?," The knight commander asks suspicious.
"My name matters not, I saved you because it was the right thing to do, and I am bringing you to my home as you guys need to rest up," The man answers dodging each question. He walks through the pack of knights and past me, Hannah, and Theo, and continues walking.
"Hey, you didn't answer my question!," The knight commander yells frustrated.
"If you want to survive follow me," He says to which we all start following without muttering a single word.
We continue until we come out of the cave to which we see, Fertile land, Great green trees, Cold air, Snow, and some Monsters. Looking closer some are slimes and goblins, but the man continues forward and they avoid him. Just what is he for monsters to avoid him, I think as he whistles.
From the whistle there is rustling in the bushes and we get ready for a fight. But to no avail as a tiny slime pops out and he says. "Can you go get Halfdan, Slimo?," At that the slime nods baffling us.
Sure there were tamers in the world, but there were none that were younger than twenty. This beast-kin didn't even look like he was a teen yet he conversed with beasts. "Your a tamer?!," The knight commander says with disbelief.
"No, that was my sisters slime, she can't come as she is making sure our brother doesn't die. He got poisoned in a fight with a Basilisk and is in a state between life and death. It happened a couple weeks ago and he is only alive since it is slow acting. Though he hasn't been awake since he got poisoned sadly. He has more beasts, one of which is Halfdan, but prefers hand to hand and sword fighting," The boy says as the slime hurries off.
"Why and how are you guys even living here?," The Knight commander asks because it is theoretically impossible. No-one can live inside the glaciers due to the amount of monsters and their level, along with the temperature unless they have a fire going.
"We live here because if we were anywhere else, we would not be safe. Sure this isn't the safest place but it is safe from the greed of men," He finishes as the bushes rustle, but more this time. Most soldiers are in fighting stances with their swords and shields out, but to no avail. A slime comes out of the bushes. "Hi, Halfdan," He says calmly.
Wait, this can't be right?! Halfdan is a Giant SLIME?!
