Chereads / Bringer of Retribution / Chapter 33 - The Celestial Train

Chapter 33 - The Celestial Train

With Mr. Hephaestus's card, Danny, together with Chaos and Mira, went on the Celestial Train.

The Celestial Train was a train built for the sake of safe traversal through Purgatory.

It could bring any magic user to Hell, Eden, and the mortal realm.

It had multiple stations in the mortal realm, one of which was in Athens.

This was the station they were planning to get off at.

This train ride should be around twelve hours.

That is why they left on Thursday after they finished school and didn't wait for Friday.

They sat in one of the train's carts.

The train had carts with standard seating and carts with special closed seating.

Apparently, Mr. Hephaestus was a rare owner of a premium card, so they received the closed seating without added pay.

They sat in a private compartment with a bench on each side and a table in the middle.

Mira was studying frantically.

She couldn't fall behind in her studies, not after how much money the master had put into her admission, so she brought her textbooks and notebooks with her.

Chaos, who saw her making mistakes and couldn't stand how disorganized her writing and answers were, offered to help her.

Danny decided this could be as great an opportunity as any to read a book.

They were all absorbed in what they were doing when a soft and formal-sounding knock was heard.

Danny looked at the door and tried to see who stood behind it.

All he could see was a massive amount of magical energy that circulated through the body in a natural and seamless way.

This must have been a trained Oni demon.

He didn't meet any other type of Eastern demons quite yet, and only Eastern demons trained in circulating their magical energy for the sake of strengthening their bodies, so it was a pretty safe bet.

Western demons drew their magical energy only when it was needed and avoided wasting it on unnecessary stuff.

And except if one was fighting, they did not need to circulate their magical energy.

"Who is it?!"

He asked with a stern voice.

"Momotaro, heir to the Oni Clan. I wish to speak with you."

The voice from the other side was indeed that of Momotaro's, and it wasn't hard to imagine he would join this race.

But what could he want to speak about with them?!

Danny sighed and snapped his fingers.

With that tiny movement, his hair was dyed black, and his eyes dyed red.

He didn't want to reveal his identity for the time being.

"Come in!"

Danny shouted.

Momotaro opened the door, stood at the entrance, bowed, and went in while closing the door behind him.

"Hmm? Who are you?"

Momotaro was surprised to see that it wasn't Danny who sat together with Mira and Chaos.

"Just a low-level demon with interest in politics."

Danny answered with a devilish expression.

He chose to introduce himself like that because he felt as if that was the correct way.

If his life was a story rewritten a thousand times, then he felt that each time would have him introduce himself that way.

"Do you know who I am?"

Momotaro asked.

"As you said. You are Momotaro of the Oni Clan. An Oni slayer who had reincarnated as the heir to the Oni Clan and came here to find the Leviathan Clan's jewel."

Danny said.

"I can't help but feel wary. A low-level demon who knows of this race and my origins. Are you here to assassinate me?"

Momotaro said as he took a seat.

"Nothing of the sort. Master Marcuse ordered me not to be hostile with those who don't stand in my way to the jewel."

Danny answered.

"Master Marcuse? So you and these two are on the prince's side?"

Momotaro asked.

"They agreed to help because that arrogant prick, the one with the purple eyes, told them to aid Marcuse this time."

Danny answered and faked anger.

"How should I call you? Messenger of my opponent?"

Momotaro asked.

"You can call me Danitan."

Danny answered.

This was a small joke regarding a translation of his name.

"I hope we can have a fair competition, Danitan."

Momotaro said and reached for a handshake.

"I hope so, too."

Danny agreed and shook the Oni demon's hand.

They both locked eyes and reached a certain understanding.

They were both lying. Momotaro clearly did not like speaking with this random demon, and this fake identity of Danny didn't seem the type to care for fairness.

Suddenly, a sound of scratching came from the door's bottom.

Momotaro stood up and opened the door.

On the other side of the door stood an Akita dog with an irritated expression.

"Sorry, this is my companion. He was probably worried because I didn't return. I will see you later in Athens!"

The black-haired demon waved his hand and, along with the dog, left the small compartment.

********

"He smells like a liar."

The demonic dog said to his companion while on their way to their compartment.

"I could definitely sense he was lying. Though I don't know about what."

Momotaro agreed.

"He didn't seem hostile... What do you think?"

Momotaro asked the Akita.

"I don't know... Maybe his identity."

The talking dog suggested.

At this point, they reached their closed seating.

The dog stood in front of the door disapprovingly.

Momotaro looked at his Canine friend and couldn't help cracking a smile.

There was something very humorous about this ancient intelligent being who guided him all his life, watching hopelessly as his life was at the mercy of a door.

"Why are you just standing there? Are you a Chinese terracotta statue? Open the damn door already!"

The dog demanded.

Momotaro chuckled as he opened the door and let himself and his old friend inside.

The dog jumped on the bench on one side and circled until he felt he was in the correct pose and then went to sleep.

An ancient demonic overlord who spent decades in the mortal realm was like any ordinary dog.

Momotaro's chuckle only grew, and he closed his eyes in the hopes of catching some sleep.

********

A few hours after the conversation with Momotaro, they reached their destination and exited the train.

When going outside, Danny caught a glimpse of Momotaro pushing some brown-haired guy who looked a bit like a hippie.

He seemed to be preaching to people about atoning for their sins, or Satan would win, and the end would come.

With his long beard and robes, the green-eyed guy was somebody Danny could easily recognize, and Satan's bastard couldn't help but frick out.

"Mira, Chaos! We have to head somewhere else. Quickly!"

He said as he grabbed their hands and started pulling them along.

"What is going on?"

Chaos asked, ready to fight whoever was threatening them.

Danny shot a look back at where the guy was and dreaded when he saw the guy wasn't there anymore.

Where was he?!

Mira preferred trusting Danny. But she won't follow him without a proper explanation.

She stopped where she was and looked at Danny with a questioning expression.

"Who are we running from?"

She asked.

Danny didn't know whether he should answer her.

The mention of someone's name held great power, and many magical beings, especially ones of this guy's caliber, could sense the position of someone who mentioned their name.

"Oh, come on, nephew. You don't need to fear me. You can tell them who you're running from."

The brown-haired guy appeared behind Mira and said with a cheerful tone.

"'Nephew,' you say. I have two uncles. And no matter which of them you are, it's bad news for us, demons."

Danny answered with a hostile demeanor.

"But you do know which one I am, don't you?"

The guy said as he walked forward from behind Mira and stood in the middle between the three teenagers, facing Danny.

He had a pure smile that could probably purify the world of its sins.

Danny pondered what would be the best course of action.

He knew which uncle of his this was because the weakest of the All Creator's kids was the guy who broke his horn.

And luckily, this wasn't that guy.

Chaos saw Danny's wary expression and decided it was time for him to stand up.

He couldn't always rely on his leader.

Mira noticed Chaos's readiness for a fight and decided to back him up.

"Evocatio Temere Gladio!"

Chaos chanted, and a longsword was forged in his grip.

"Vampir Pencheleri!"

Mira's fingers turned into the sharp claws of a vampire.

From behind, she swiped her claws at the guy, but he easily evaded and grabbed both her hands with a single hand.

Chaos swiped the dual-edged sword at the green-eyed guy.

He lifted his other hand and blocked the incoming blade with a single finger.

The sword stopped in its tracks without any backlash. Blocked so seamlessly as if it had never swung.

Danny wanted to avoid a fight, but now it seemed like this wouldn't be possible.

"Oh. Don't look at me like this. I'm all about forgiveness, and they don't know who I am. We don't have to fight."

The guy said.

A son of the All Creator who says he is all about forgiveness...

Realization hit both Mira and Chaos.

It dawned on them who this formidable foe was.

The youngest brother of the devil, the demon lord, Satan.

The younger brother of the top archangel, Michael.

The half-human Son of The All Creator.

Yeshua.
