Chereads / Bringer of Retribution / Chapter 8 - Danny vs Momotaro

Chapter 8 - Danny vs Momotaro

After talking with Chaos, Danny went to the dojo by the side of the sports field.

"Yo."

He greeted the male student practicing his sword in the empty room.

"You... You are the guy from this morning, right?"

Momotaro kept swiping his sword in the air in a repeated movement as he spoke.

"Yes."

Danny answered. He had an idea of where the conversation was going.

"Are you that Daniel guy?"

Momotaro asked.

"Yes."

Danny answered.

Momotaro smirked.

"Spar with me."

The Oni Clan's heir said and went to bring two wooden swords from the wall.

He went to one side of the wall and looked at Danny.

Danny chuckled and went to the other side.

Momotaro threw one of the swords at his opponent.

"Kauntā No Hajimari."

The high-level demon chanted, and a display appeared in the air.

It showed a point counter for each fighter and a clock.

[Three!]

[Two!]

[One!]

[Zero!]

The fight was three minutes long.

The moment the starting counter reached zero, Momotaro launched at his opponent.

He had an air of confidence to him that showed his years of experience in this sort of fight.

He swiped at Danny's neck at such a high speed no one without prior training should be able to evade. Unluckily for him, Danny had some experience and one significant advantage.

Danny's advantage was that Momotaro was cheating. The Oni Clan's heir used magic to enhance his speed, strength, and wooden sword.

Danny's eyes glowed brightly as he saw the magic's movement as it flowed through Momotaro's body and sword. Seeing that, he easily evaded each swipe of his opponent without any trouble.

[One minute left!]

'What is this? A guy with experience would have attacked back already!'

Momotaro thought to himself in disarray.

He tried different moves, but none of them was able to hit. There were a few hits that landed on Danny's sword, but they were either blocked or slid right off.

[Ten!]

Danny dropped to the ground and swiped at his opponent's feet.

[Nine!]

Momotaro stumbled and started falling to the ground.

While falling, Momotaro switched the direction of his sword.

[Eight!]

Before Danny could evade, the white-haired demon was hit with the magically enhanced wooden sword to his head.

[Momotaro gained one point!]

[Seven!]

The hit to his head was stronger than Danny had expected.

He lay on the ground in pain as his head pumped loudly.

[Six!]

He tried rising.

[Five]

The dojo was spinning in a weird way that Danny could only guess was either magic or a concussion.

[Four!]

"You are better than most low-level demons."

Momotaro praised his straggling opponent.

"Th-Thanks."

Danny answered with a pained grunt.

[Three!]

Danny found it too hard to focus on anything specific, so he switched to seeing only magic. For some reason, his magic sight wasn't affected by light or this concussion.

He took a deep breath and attempted to swipe at Momotaro's legs again while staying close to the ground.

[Two!]

Momotaro started falling.

He didn't expect this. He originally wanted to recruit this guy, but was he good enough to recruit him? Isn't this guy way better than just the smartest low-level?! If he weren't a low-level demon, Momotaro would have asked him to recruit him.

His head hit the mat with great force.

[One!]

Danny swiped his wooden sword at the opponent's head as the clock reached...

[Zero!]

[Point distribution: Momotaro- One, Daniel- One!]

[Results: Draw!]

Momotaro lay on the ground and looked at the ceiling in shock.

"You are a psychopath."

Momotaro breathed heavily.

"You are a cheater."

Danny sat by Momotaro and panted heavily as well.

"We need to speak."

Momotaro said.

"I'll meet you here on the first break."

Danny said and headed outside of the dojo toward the class.

********

Danny walked unsteadily toward the class and sat in his seat.

"You okay?"

Mira asked him with a worried tone.

"I just fought with the Oni Clan's heir."

Danny answered without answering her question.

"Did you win?"

She asked.

"Draw."

Danny answered with a groan as he held his head.

Mira looked at him, unsure if to be in awe that a low-level demon reached a draw against a high-level demon or be stupefied at the number of fights he gets into.

"Do you need to go to the nurse?"

Mira asked him.

"I will sit through this lesson, and based on that, I'll go to..."

Danny stopped mid-sentence and looked into a random point in the room as if he were in a trance.

Mira didn't know what to do and looked at Marcuse's direction.

The young prince noticed the distress in his new friend's eyes. With his harem at his side, he came to her rescue.

"What happened to him?"

Marcuse saw his brother's unconscious state and asked.

"He fought Momotaro."

Mira answered.

Marcuse looked at her and then back at Danny.

"Did he lose?"

Marcuse asked with an amused expression.

"Draw."

Mira answered, and Marcuse was surprised.

How intense was their fight if he is in this state after a draw?!

Seeing Danny's state, Sara, a member of Marcuse's harem, sneered.

"Serves him right for what he said to us!"

The girl claimed and was petrified when Marcuse looked at her with anger.

"I'll carry him to the nurse's office."

Marcuse sighed and lifted Danny's body on his back.

He stepped outside the classroom and saw Mr. Hephaestus.

"Teacher!"

He called out to the bearded demon.

"What is it, Marcuse?"

Mr. Hephaestus asked and then noticed the unconscious body on his back.

"Sigh... Take him to the nurse's office and return to the lesson."

The teacher said.

Marcuse carried Danny to the nurse's office, and when he stepped through the door, he could see the nurse's eyes light up and deem just as quickly. She was probably happy to see Marcuse but then noticed Danny was with him.

Marcuse left the nurse's office as soon as he could because she sent him disturbing looks.

********

Ding! Ding! Ding!

The bell rang loudly, and Danny woke up.

He lifted his head and saw the nurse looking at him with contempt.

"Did you enjoy that guy I sent you?"

He asked her.

"He woke up too quickly, so I couldn't do anything."

She said with disappointment.

"So, who are you sending me today?"

She asked, expecting his revenge to be the same as last time.

"Sorry, but not this time."

Danny said with sincerity, and the nurse's expression didn't hide her disappointment.

"Are you okay now?"

She asked him, and he nodded.

"Then get out of here and avoid getting into fights!"

She shouted at him, and he left as quickly as possible.

Her telling him to avoid getting into fights could seem like kindness, but it was obvious she didn't want to see him.

There was still one lesson until the break, so Danny returned to class.
