Xavier's POV
I rolled my sapphire eyes for the upteenth time at my friends' apparent incredulity as they kept trying in vain to make me join the bet.
"No way man, we ain't doing that." I said once more before letting my gaze fall on the figure of beguiling Beverly Jones as she swayed cockily in the hallway, her hands buried perfectly in the pockets of her brown hoody... Will snapped me out of my reverie with a thump on my shoulder, then raised his jet black eyebrows at me in a way that screamed 'WHY?'
"What?!" I scoffed, "she's too proud." I admitted and gave all three of them another sarcastic eye roll but received questioning stares in return.
"Woah-oh!" Diane began, clapping her hands in scorn.
Diane was our only female best friend, and the only girl in our small group so she's nothing but appreciated and respected; her rational reasonability and perfect acumen...
"And since when did all-mighty-Xavier give two fucks about egotistic girls? And last I checked they were the ones you always go for, saying; "It's a big one for me, girls with huge ego also boost my ego, hugely" huh?" She droned and my cheeks flushed pink as she mimicked my voice, sounding so much like a drone.
But before I could say anything, or reply the ridicule, Will Kirkman added, "No shit, dude be acting so weird with this Beverly person, like bro, Beverly is everything that turns you on!" He cried carefreely, his voice almost filling the room that I had to cringe back in my locker to absorb the shame but Will being Will, my embarrassment knew no bounds.
Yeah that's Will, the funniest and stupidest amongst us, always coming up with the most irrelevant ideas and agendas.
My eyes darted to Clarke Miller as I saw his lips separate, my heart began to thump rapidly, I knew the time had come, the moment I most dreaded, Clarke Miller was the most rational and understanding person amongst us, he had perfect logical reasoning that everyone knew about, of course he rarely spoke, but when he did, boy is he accurate!
" 'cept you've got a thing for her." He spat in a low but agonizing voice.
My heart thrummed with every word and I flinched at the sentence, but he was just being Clarke right? Being all knowledgeable and all that shit, innit?
After processing his words, my eyes sparked and I felt a huge challenge projected towards my chauvinistic ego, an ego I spent all my life building and inflating, so how can I let one beautiful, amazing, pretty, perfect Beverly deflate it?!
It's so not possible.
I squirmed where I stood before speaking, "Players don't get feelings, fool." I growled and patted his shoulder as one would do a child, though I was embarrassed for my ears perked up and blood coursed to my cheeks.
"Exactly," Diane said and I quickly turned to her with pursed lips,
"Your reputation is at stake Beckham," she scorned and snickered at me, the rest joining in the scorn, and betcha I squirmed again.
I scrunched my nose and clenched my jaw as I heard their hysterical laughter which was annoying me unbearably,
"Shut up!" I growled with a scowl and they slowly lulled into silence, surprise etched on their features.
I heaved a sigh before talking, "You are all wrong to believe I've got shit for Beverly, we all know I've seen better," I lied and they all grinned sarcastically at my last statement,
"Oh, please," I chuckled, "I can play Beverly all week, I can let y'all play her, but I won't," the words flew out from my mouth and my friends kept gawking at me.
"Beverly is a different person y'all- special!"
Believe me I cringed inwardly at my statement as immediately I had pronounced it and I hoped the ground would open up and swallow me whole, because I didn't want to seem weak in front of my friends, and not just my friends but my "followers", I was the leader of this group and I could be impeached only if my emotions falter, and heaven knows they were twitching already.
But is she worth it?
Is she worth losing this prime for?
She's not close to the worth, I told myself,
No way would I lose this position today or any day.
They began coughing and gibbering at my words and I felt so defeated, frickin humiliated at the fact that I appeared weak.
What's going on with me?!
"Don't be weak, babe." Diane said and cackled.
Weak?! Xavier Marshall weak?! Y'all wanna see strength?! I'd show you strength...
"Shh, shh! She's coming!" Will hushed with a loud whisper and we all readjusted our positions; I was now fully propped against my locker, putting all my weight on one leg as I placed the other against my locker.
A fake, small smile crept its way onto my face, but the discomfort bothered me and my knees buckled, my heart was thumping severely as I gazed down at the marble floor with trembly legs.
A figure now loomed in front of my face and I shivered at the cologne of the one person I never expected to see; she was apparently a 5,6 footer that had her small hands placed on her tiny waist, her hair was perfected in a wavy do as it rested gently on her shoulders, her face was tanned and ornamented with a very, very cocky smirk.
"Ha-ha-ha," Beverly mocked a laugh and clapped her hands slowly, making me feel ultimately confused.
My face lifted from the ground to her face and I stared directly into her eyes, her eyes having obvious outlines of sapphire.
I faked a cough at her strange demeanor.
"Can I help you Ms.?" I asked and furrowed my eyebrows at her, feeling somewhat surprised at how confident I had sounded.
She tutted and smirked again, "Heard you the boss of this little, demented clique here," her eyes gave my friends and I a very taunting eye roll as she enunciated the "clique".
My jaw was on the verge of dropping before she spoke again,
"Well, I have a message for you and your bitches," she clicked her tongue, "Four. Of. Y'all. Should. Stay. Away. From. Me. And. My. Beeswax." She drawled, poking my chest with her pulpy index finger at every syllable she pronounced.
I pursed my lips and tried to summon a smirk and to my surprise, it didn't come, I just stood there, gaping at her while she bullied me...
"Do I make myself clear?!" Her voice reverberated in the hallway as she spoke so authoritatively, gathering every attention in the hallway to me for people began to circle round us, which was way beyond discomforting for me and I cringed deeper into my locker.
Her eyes flickered rapidly and her nose scrunched like she was expecting a response from me, and it was when her eyes widened that I knew she was waiting for me to respond.
"Huh?!" She kept batting her eyelids impatiently as if I was killing her time and she was desperate for my reply.
And for the first time in my seventeen years of existence did I feel intimated and bullied and just to make matters worse, by a frickin girl half my height.
My head, on its accord gave her a brief nod while I gaped at her in astonishment, a girl this confident deserves a Guinness award because what the flip is this pride?!
"Good." She said and smirked for the upteenth time before turning away, but stopped dead in her tracks and turned back towards me, but this time she had her eyes trained on Will.
"Oh, lest I forget," she said before reaching her hand into the pocket of her denim pants, "this must be yours," she narrowed her brow at Will who had already blushed hard; his cheeks more crimson than Diane's lipstick.
She threw a crumpled piece of paper to him which he caught with a sweep, the smirk never leaving her face,
"Oh, and one more thing, the next time you think of getting into a girl's panties through a note please be sure not to make grammatical errors baby," she squeezed her face and waved her finger at him, "it's a big turn off." She snickered, then pouted childishly before prancing away.
I was stupefied by her cockiness and a bit upset at Will for making advances on her without my consent, but right now it seemed so peripheral, compared to the matter at hand.
My eyes relocated to my friends and they were all redder than fresh tomatoes, which would would have been hilarious if I hadn't blushed awfully myself.
"What do you say now?" Clarke whispered into my ear, his voice coursing me with rage and regret.
"Oh, game on." I growled, then scowled at the crowd that was staring at me as they began to disperse slowly.
"She's so dead." Diane commented through clenched teeth as she gazed sheepishly into void space.
"She's going down!" Clarke whisper-shouted, clenching his jaw in fury.
"She's fucked!" I mumbled with a low growl.
Tsk, Will tutted and we all focused on him, expecting him to provide the deadliest lines as he was the most insulted, his face clenched and tightened for a moment but almost immediately changed to a leer and I can swear he licked his lips.
"She's so fucking mine." He said and clicked his tongue, hollowing his cheeks at their axes as he grinned dreamily.
In unison we all clapped over hands over our foreheads and let out a groan at Will's consistent stupidity.
"Don't be an idiot would you, Beverly's getting payback, bitch." I declared and slapped the back of his head which he winced at.
His face flushed harder and redder as he held the place I slapped, he then pouted at me and asked, "And how do you intend to achieve that?" He asked innocently and I took so much pride in the question as I noticed the six eyes that looked anticipatively at me.
I smirked at them and tutted twice before grinning widely, making sure my dimples displayed in their very best way.
"Payback's a bitch." Was all said.

A/N: IDK about you but I'm falling in love with this Beverly, I mean, she makes me feel so feathery, her pride seemingly heavenly and her aura coursing so carelessly (enough rhymes I know, sorry about that though π)
