Chereads / Vampire: Tales from the King / Chapter 11 - The dump

Chapter 11 - The dump

Days after Kyle and his servants was welcomed into the ANM- the same organization that Christian and his friends are leading. They were in Drey's hideout waiting for the ANM to send them their task.

"Do you think it's somewhere in Germany?" Kyle asked as he started spinning a globe.

"Master I think the only one who can give us this information is Queen Aria." Drey said as he covered the broken piece of wood with brown duct tape. "You should worry about getting the blood from these tasks." Drey said as he put another layer of tape.

"Yeah you're right-" Kyle said as Melissa suddenly stopped the globe.

"The Queen said there might be another vampire besides us in New York. If we find them, they can probably tell us where it is." Melissa said as she started staring at him as if she was trying to analyze his body.

"They'll probably try to avoid us because of all the noise and attention we'll be attracting or they might even try killing us to feed the thought that vampires exist to the public. And if we get to wherever Blutheim is too early than we might face people more dangerous than them." Drey said as he put the tape in a drawer.

"…. I don't know if I want to become a vampire." Kyle said as he started spinning the globe again. "I don't wanna keep killing people just because I need to become a vampire. Didn't you notice that terrible smell outside, it started when she ate all those people a couple nights ago." Kyle said as he made the globe spin faster.

"People are grieving, it'll only be worse if your a mindless beast." Drey said as swept smaller pieces of wood into a dustpan.

"It'll probably be faster if we do what the vampires in the movies do." Kyle said as he looked away from the globe.

"Well most of them died or in a sanctuary with people that are like them." Melissa said as she still seemed to be analyzing Kyle's body.

"I don't think any of them followed this route though, dealing with some of the worst humans imaginable, the types who would even try them as a sport. I think this is the best route." Drey said as he cleaned the knife the Queen used.

"No way." Kyle said in disbelief as he stared at him.

"How old are you?" Melissa randomly asked as she stopped the globe again.

"I'm 15." Kyle said in shock as he didn't expect her to stop it again.

"Don't you have any plans with any of your friends this summer? We could take care of most of the tasks for you." Melissa said in a softer tone.

"No, umm-" Before he could answer, his phone started ringing. "Hello?" He said after he answered it and put his phone up to his ear.

"I'm waiting outside." Michael said as he sat in his car watching the policeman walking on the other sidewalk before hanging up.

"Which building are they in?" David said as he looked at all of the buildings next to him.

"I don't know, they'll be down in a minute." Michael as he started looking at the same buildings.

"You know they might be a big risk in almost all of our tasks." David said almost as if it was a warning.

"Yeah I know but don't worry, they'll make sure no blood gets spilled." Michael said as he looked ahead.

"That's not the only thing that I'm worried about. Unfortunately we have two tasks today, the first one is another deal that should last half the day and the other is information gathering that start's right after the first." David said as he continued to watch the buildings. "Let's take them to the butcher, we'll get them some blood before we get to the safe house." David finished as he saw Melissa step out of the house with long black hair and a hat on to cover her eyes and face.

"Alright." Michael said as he waved his hand at them.

"Does Kyle get affected by the sun like them?" David asked as he looked at and saw Kyle walking without anything protecting his skin.

"I'm not sure, he says the sun doesn't feel bad to him but he is still in the middle stages of turning into a vampire so that condition probably hasn't developed yet." Michael said as he unlocked the backdoors to let Kyle and his servants in the car.

"Hello!" David said in a higher tone as Kyle slid to the middle seat.

"Hey, Christian didn't come?" Kyle asked as he looked at both of them.

"Nah, he had to stay overnight in the safe house but don't worry, you'll see him before your tasks. Right now however, We're gonna take you to Lilli, the sweetest butcher so you could get some blood." David said as he looked at Kyle's arms.

"You're not going inside the shop with us, It's pretty disgusting in there but I think one of you should come in with us since this where you'll also be getting some of your blood." Michael explained as he drove off.

"Why would a butcher sell human blood?" Kyle asked in a confused tone although the answer was obvious.

"Things happen, people make mistakes." Michael said as he noticed another cop sitting in his car.

"People make a lotta mistakes, half the time that mistake is too much for the organization to handle so they send those people to Ms. Lilli. And nobody should get sent to Ms. Lilli but sometimes and this is only sometimes. They deserve it." David said in a melancholic tone.

"Ms. Lilli the butcher has enough blood for you but we can't waste our money buying all of it, so this is really just for in between your tasks. Also always treat her with respect because she is the only trustworthy third party because she never goes against her clients, especially if they make the effort to see her personally." Michael explained as he had a smirk on his face ever since she was brought up.

After a while they drove into a tunnel and followed the same route as all of the cars, until they reached the halfway point in the tunnel which had another route that was closed off by yellow tape. Michael broke through the yellow tape with his car without a second thought and began to speed through the tunnel with all of the car lights off.

Almost immediately after they began speeding Kyle and his servants began to notice a smell that seemed to be the smell of blood but there was something else mixed with it.

"We almost out of the tunnel." David said as he put on black gloves and a mask.

"Put these on." David said as he gave Drey black gloves and a mask. "You're not gonna wanna put your finger on anything here because you could be easily incriminated, not that you aren't a criminal already but it's just disgusting. All over the fucking place, you can't escape it." David finished as the light at the end of the tunnel began to become visible.

Michael immediately started slowing the car down as he got close to the exit.

Once they finally exited the tunnel, it was like the smell grew dramatically worse for Kyle and his servants as the moment they left the tunnel, it felt as if someone was stabbing the inside of their nose. Simultaneously they covered their nose, hoping it would help but it was like the smell was squeezing its way through their fingers.

"Well we're close to the butcher shop so you should put your- what the hell?" Michael said in a bemused tone as he saw them covering their noses with tears slowly streaming down their face through the rear view mirror.

"I also forgot to mention, there's a lot of rotting corpses and homeless people here. They made a shelter in the only place they can and grew used to the sight and smell but since your sense of smell is stronger than most, this part will be one of the worst parts for you. But try to stand it a lil longer, we'll make it through here in no time." David said as he quickly looked away from them as it felt like their tears were trying to pull him in.

"Look at this, Kyle." Drey said as he drove past dozens of people who were covered in dirt and tattered clothes.

As Kyle looked up, he saw a small family laying inside of a tent that was built with ripped sheets and a rusty metal rod but just as they passed that family, he saw a corpse lying just a couple feet next to them. Kyle felt an indescribable sense of sympathy as he saw the small family's condition but once he saw the body, he was disgusted.

"The government doesn't even try to set foot in this part of New York. They easily keep everyone away from here and thanks to their negligence, a large infestation of drug lords, gangs, and criminal organizations. You could find any type of criminal down here. If you can manage to make it past the homeless and dead." Michael said as he continued to slowly drive through this part.

Michael began to speed up but slowly as he didn't want to hit any of the homeless people or dead bodies. Although the amount began to dwindle the further they got away from the tunnel and soon enough, they began to see what resembled a broken down neighborhood.

As they got closer to the neighborhood, Kyle saw a shop that seemed to be the only thing that looks like it's been regularly taken care of.

Although the closer they got to it the more it looked like a candy shop until they finally got to the front.

"Lilli's meats?" Kyle read the sign in confusion as he looked around.

"Looks like she has some customers today." Michael said as he turned, stopped the car across the street from the shop and started putting on gloves and a mask.

"You still need your disguise here along with your mask." David said to Drey as he unbuckled his seat.

"Come on." Michael said as he got out of the car.

David stepped out of the car after him and waited for Drey as he started at the buildings around them.

"Just follow them, don't make any moves until they tell you to." Kyle told Drey before he left the car as he saw the shop's door open.

"This place is hell, I'm surprised those vampires aren't here." S201 said as he walked out the shop.

"You really didn't read any of the old documents so listen to my small piece of advice for once." D124 said as he looked at Michael, David, and Drey standing just across the street. "Not here." D124 said as he walked to his car while keeping his eyes on them.

As they both got in the car, Drey was staring at them as if they held something valuable to him.

"I believe those two were the police." Drey said as he watched them drive away.

"Why do you say that?" David asked as he looked at the license plate.

"Because they were looking for vampires." Drey said as he looked at the shop.
