Chereads / Vampire: Tales from the King / Chapter 8 - The Great King

Chapter 8 - The Great King

"Are you aware of how many people we need to hunt down to get that much blood?" Melissa asked in a seemingly perplexed tone although she held a straight face.

"Stressing the amount of people we need would make this worse than it already is. Actually this city has well over the amount we need so worrying about master is our top priority." Drey said as he seemed determined to go out and hunt already.

"Don't worry about getting caught, I can assure you that we'll blend in with any crowd." My Lord said as she started putting small holes into the tip of the stake.

"If the master is mad about this then I'll take the full blame but we can't let him become a monster. Especially not now, he's only a kid." Drey said in reassurance to Melissa.

"Yes, your right master." Melissa said as she seemed to have calmed down.

"I suppose a nurse would care a lot about human survival, especially a vampire one." My Lord said under her breath as she finally finished the stake. "So do you agree to comply?" Her tone had changed completely as her eyes began to glow red with excitement.

Drey looked at Melissa at eachother once more to make sure they were doing the right thing hunting without their master's permission. They looked back towards My lord as they were ready to answer. "Yes My Lord, we agree to comply and save our master from becoming a monster." Drey said in a resolved tone that seemed much brighter than before.

"Great! It seems like the sun has finally fell so let's go." My Lord stood up in excitement.

They put on hats and medical masks that they were able to find in one of the rooms to cover their hair and face as they left. Once they had made it outside and so filled the streets and how fresh the air was after being in a room filled with tension. My Lord took in a deep breath as if she was smelling a gourmet meal. "I can smell the cross of life from here, come on! I simply can't wait" My Lord said as she began walking away from them.

As they began to catch up to her, Melissa started to notice a familiar scent coming closer which made her start looking around in a confused manner but she suddenly stopped and turned her head to the street almost instinctively as she felt as if the scent was coming from one of the cars. And just as she turned her head, her eyes locked on to someone that seemed to be looking through the glass. As their eyes locked on to each other for what seemed like minutes to them, the car drove too far for Melissa to see as other cars began to block her view.

"What are you looking at?" Michael said as he looked at Urie from the rear view.

Urie looked as if something caught her attention, before she looked away from the window. "We are looking for some red eyes right?" Urie said as she looked at Christian who was sitting in the passenger.

"Yeah, did you see them?" Christian asked as he put on white gloves.

"I'm not sure." Urie said as she started looking through the window again. "When you saw him, you said that he was starving for blood but we haven't heard any news or any sightings of something that could give us a hint about where he is. I'm starting to feel like we're running a maze with only hope of finding him. Did you check your parents house?" Urie continued.

"I don't know what it is but I have a feeling that he isn't anywhere near home. I don't know if Kyle was just out of control because he hasn't eaten but the way he looked and acted was completely different. When his hair and eyes changed, it was like he was focused on one thing only, which was drinking blood." Christian said the only thing that ran through his head was the way My Lord looked at him. "He said he wanted a feast." He finished.

"A feast?" Urie said confusingly. "As in hunting down multiple people... What's down there, Michael?" Urie asked as she was trying to piece something together.

"Uhhh.... The Cathedral of Trinity, that big supermarket, and a college campus. That's all I can remember right now, why do you want me to start heading back down that way?" Michael asked as he started to slow down.

"Yeah, I saw someone who was just staring at me even though the windows were tinted but I couldn't see the color of their eyes, they also had a medical mask and hat on. It's probably just me but that looks awfully suspicious especially on a good night such as this." Urie said as she started to put on yellow gloves.

"Assuming he has the same weakness as the vampire in movies, then we could rule out the fact that he would go to a church because of the large cross that sits there." Michael said as he turned on one of the corners.

"Yeah but that's only assuming, I think we should still give it a chance. At least once we've exhausted the other options, "What you think Christian." Urie said as she reached under the seat to grab a black mask.

As they started making their way towards Kyle. My lord had finally reached the Cathedral and as she stood at the front, Drey and Melissa opened the doors. "It looks like we have more visitors tonight! Please come in and pray with us." The Bishop welcomed whoever came into the room.

"We are only here to bless the stake. We're leaving immediately after." My Lord said as she walked into the cathedral.

"Would you like to remove your mask and hat to bless us all with your faces, please my children." The Bishop said in a cordial tone as two sisters closed the door behind them.

Once the doors closed, they felt as if the large cross that seemed to be floating behind The Bishop was welcoming them as it glowed beautifully. tranquil light that was followed by a gentle and soft wind which made them feel as if they were being hugged by a warm and fluffy blanket. The Bishop standing all the way on the other end of the hall, showed how large the hall was but it was filled perfectly with light that bounced off the vibrant mirrors that gave a subtle feeling of home, and rows of chairs that faced the large cross, which was floating above small pool of water that only reached to the shins of most people.

"Of course." My Lord said as if she was waiting for this moment.

Drey and Melissa didn't acknowledge what The Bishop said as they were still captivated by the beauty of the cathedral while My Lord quickly took off her hat which showed her white head of hair that seemed to be glistening in the presence of the cross of the cross and her red eyes that was shining bright because of the bouncing lights.

"I'm only here for a blessing." My Lord said in a gentle tone that Drey and Melissa finally heard as she removed her mask.

As The Bishop saw My Lord's face, he didn't look at her with admiration or terror even though he recognized her from the news earlier. He kept the same gentle face that he had when he welcomed them, even though all the other people praying were in awe. "You are the child of God, we can't fault you for the appetite he gave you, that's the same as blaming a lion for eating a zebra. I do pray and wish there was a better outcome, nevertheless, I still welcome you to pray." The Bishop said as he looked at Drey and Melissa with the same smile. "Would you like to lead the prayer?" He asked My Lord.

"The teachings of God help all the species who study them more understanding and charming but the humans are like kids compared to the others. Thank you Bishop." My lord said as she pulled out the stake she made earlier.

Drey and Melissa reluctantly removed their hat and mask and began to glow just My Lord's hair and eyes. They seemed to get much more relaxed as they got closer to the cross and as they stood beside The Bishop, he turned to the cross.

"Begin whenever you're ready." The Bishop said before turning to the cross and getting on his knees in a prayer position which My Lord quickly did as well while holding up the stake as if she was presenting something to God. Drey and Melissa quickly followed behind her.

It was as if the world went silent so God could hear her words. "My dear King, I apologize for eating in your lower lands so haphazardly and without blessing. I hope you understand the current situation this child is currently in and allow us to continue until he is ready to come home. I ask for your guidance and blessing to push this child forward. We don't mean any harm to our human brothers and sisters but bare with us please. We'll soon free you." My Lord said as if she was writing a letter directly to God himself.
