"Have you heard the latest news" "It seems like Miss School Belle was dumped because I saw Mark holding hands with Kelly coming together to school" "Good for her. She is always so full of herself but couldn't keep a man" " I am sure he dumped her because of her attitude"
Julia finally understood why it seemed like people were staring and talking about her as she came to school. The holiday has just ended.
She had just entered the restroom when she heard two girls talking about her. They were so engrossed in their talk that they didn't even notice her.
"Talking behind others is not nice" Julia finally made her presence known.
The two snapped their head so fast in their direction and shock was written on their face.
" The fact that you guys are so interested in my life, isn't that meant to make me full of myself. I don't even know your names but it seems like you know everything about me" Julia leaned against the wall talking to them looking at them degradingly.
"How dare you speak to us like that" "You feel you are better than us, huh" One of the girls shouted.
"Yes," Julia said.
The girl paused trying to remember what the yes was for. As she realized what it was for, she got more angry looking as if she wanted to pounce on Kelly.
The other girl also noticed and held her back. Even though they were angry, they still needed to remember who Julia was. Her family could squash theirs in a moment.
" You're going to fall from your high land and I will wait for that Mom, ent," The first girl said still fuming.
Julia walked out of there knowing that their confrontation has finished. She knew that once her family name was mentioned, they wouldn't say much again and she was already tired of talking to unimportant people.
The rest of the day went smoothly.
" Julia, where have you been? We've been looking for you the whole day" Kristen, my friend said with Mike, my other friend trailing behind.
"I heard the news about Mark and that Kelly girl" "I always knew she was a bitch but you didn't listen to me" Kristen never liked Kelly. She always had a problem with her but we just felt she was being normal Kristen.
"You always defended her and I always saw the way she looked at Mark and Mike but Mike didn't even give her a second glance" She continued saying. Whenever she started, she doesn't stop until she had said her mind.
Mark was the calmest and most quiet among them. He was also very handsome but Julia only saw him as a close friend. They have been friends since Kindergarten.
Mark's parents were richer than Julia's. They were among the top five richest in the country same with Nicholas.
Why did she suddenly remember him? After the marriage talk during the weekend, she has not seen him again. She would have already felt that it was all a dream except for her mum's constant praises about him. Her mother won't stop talking about how polite he was. She said that she was surprised that he wasn't like the rumors but rather a very down-to-earth person.
Her parents already approved him including her father who was hard to please.
He called her to his study after Nicholas left and talked about how she wouldn't be at a disadvantage after marrying him.
She sighed at the thought of everything.
"Julia" Kristen called snapping her out of her thoughts when she realized she wasn't listening to her.
"What happened" Mike asked looking at her as if he could get the answer from her.
"Nothing," Julia said.
"How can it be nothing? Just tell...." Mike cut Kristen off before she finished her statement.
"Just leave her alone. She already said nothing" He said. "You just can't mind your own business," He said in a low tone but Kristen heard him still.
"What did you just say and how dare you cut me off" She said turning to him and their banter started.
They were always like this. Whenever they gathered, Mike talked the most. You would think that Mike would lose the argument but he always managed to shut Kristen up. He was quiet around every other person. His mysteriousness (as they called it) added to his charm but his friends knew that he just couldn't bother talking to anyone.
Even Kelly seemed to swoon whenever he talked to her.
Julia could already see Kristen being frustrated because Mike was still trying to point out why she should respect other's boundaries and know when to stop.
"How are we even friends with him" Kristen said raising her hands in the air and that was how their argument always ended.
Mike had liked Kristen for a long time and it looked like Kristen liked him too. Julia smiled at the thought of her two best friends being together. That was her first smile today. Being with her friends always brightened her mood.
They met Kelly in college. The three of them all went to expensive schools so they didn't know Kelly. She was more of Julia's friend but she followed them sometimes. Kelly wasn't living in the same city as the school so she sometimes followed Julia home.
The thought made her frown.
"See, she is spacing out again," Kristen said trying to prove a point.
" Do you guys know Nicholas Ferrero" Julia suddenly asked.
