The best way to use food as a monster was to eat it. Since it would be a pain and the smell also would attract more monsters, Kane and the others began to eat the green snake in the same place they found it. Although they were eating it without cooking, the taste was still great… thanks to their monsters' physiology. At that point in time, if there were some doubts in Kane's mind, it disappeared.

"Hey, Kane," Jacob said while he still was chewing one piece of the snake." You are quite reckless, aren't you? I don't think stepping on a snake is something a sane person would do."

"If they had poison within them, you and Emma wouldn't be here standing," Kane said. "Knowing that, why would I feel scared of their bite? As long as the wound isn't big, we can recover by eating a monster or two, so that much danger is fine."
