Chapter 19 - Castle od Death

I took a deep breath, feeling the cool metal of my spear in my hand. As I stepped deeper into the Underworld, the landscape began to change. The air grew thicker, and a dim red light illuminated the cavernous walls around me. The ground turned into jagged rocks, and the air was filled with the acrid scent of brimstone. I knew I was getting closer to my target.

As I walked, I could see the landscape around me transform. The ground beneath my feet became jagged and rocky, with twisted, gnarled trees growing sporadically. The sky overhead seemed to darken even further, and the air grew thick with a putrid miasma.

Suddenly, I heard a hissing sound, and I knew I was being watched. I quickly spun around, gripping my spear tightly, and saw three Gorgons staring at me with their snake-like eyes. They were a hideous sight, with writhing snakes for hair and bronze scales covering their skin. Their serpent hair hissed and their eyes glowed with malice. I twirled my spear in my hand, preparing for the battle ahead.

"You shall not pass, mortal," one of them spat.

"I don't have time for this," I growled, charging towards them.

The battle was intense, their serpent hair striking at me like whips. But I was too fast for them, my spear slicing through their tough skin. The curse of Achilles was a powerful weapon, making me almost invulnerable. In the end, they fell before me, defeated.

As I continued on my journey, the landscape changed, becoming more treacherous and dark. The rivers were made of molten lava, and the air was thick with the scent of death.

Eventually, I came across the castle of Thanatos. It was a towering fortress made of black stone, with shadowy figures lurking in the windows. I could feel the power emanating from it, calling to me.

Approaching the entrance, I was met by the God of Death himself. He was a tall, imposing figure with a grim expression. Thanatos was a fearsome sight, with skeletal features and a dark aura that seemed to suck the life out of everything around him. But I stood my ground, determined to make him see reason.

"Why have you come here, mortal?" he asked.

"I seek your power, Thanatos," I replied. "I need to break my seal and unlock my full potential."

Thanatos eyed me skeptically. "And why should I help you?"

"I will offer you my life as a gift," I said. "I will be your sword, your servant, if you help me."

Thanatos considered my offer for a moment before nodding. "Very well. But be warned, mortal, the power you seek may be too much for you to handle."

„But because you have the curse of Achilles and a immortal soul i will let you have a try. You could die and this is the last chance to step back," Thanatos said sadly.

„I won't forfeit. For my goals I have to risk everything and I don't fear death. I will survive like I always did," I yelled with confidence.

With eager anticipation, I followed Thanatos deep into the castle. The winding staircases and dark corridors seemed to go on forever, but I knew that we were getting closer to our destination. The air grew colder and the shadows deeper as we went, and I could feel the weight of my seal bearing down on me.

Finally, we reached a room so deep within the castle that the only light came from a single torch. In the center of the room was a pedestal, and atop it sat a glowing orb.

"This is what you seek," Thanatos said, gesturing towards the orb.

It was a shining orb of obsidian. But it was not the obsidian I knew. It was more ancient.

"It is said to restore the power of those who have been sealed away. But be warned, unlocking its power will come at a great cost."

I approached the pedestal, my eyes fixed on the pulsing orb. "I understand," I said. "The cost is of no concern to me. I need this power to break the seal that binds me."

With trembling hands, I reached out and touched the orb. At once, a searing pain shot through my body, and I fell to the ground. But even as the pain wracked my body, I could feel my seal breaking, my power surging within me once more. It was a sensation unlike any other, and I reveled in it. The pain was nothing, because the happiness in me to finally get my revenge was stronger.

"It's working," I gasped, my voice strained with the effort of speaking. "The orb is restoring my old power and breaking the seal. It's like nothing I've ever felt before."

But the power came at a cost, as Thanatos had warned. The colour of the orb changed golden and the pain multiplied by millions. If it had not been for the curse of Achilles I might have died. The pain was almost unbearable, and I knew that my life had been shortened by the use of this power. But I was willing to pay that price. I needed this power to defeat my enemies, to take my revenge, and to reclaim my rightful place in the world.

As I lay on the ground, gasping for breath, I felt Thanatos looming over me. "You have what you came for," he said. "Use it wisely. And remember your promise. "

"I will," I said, my voice still hoarse with pain. "Thank you."

With that, I left the castle, feeling the raw power coursing through my veins. The landscape of the underworld seemed more vibrant than ever before, and I could see every detail with astonishing clarity. I knew that I would never be the same again, that this power had changed me in ways that I couldn't yet fully understand. But I was ready for whatever lay ahead, for the battles and challenges that awaited me. With the orb's power at my fingertips, I knew that I could conquer anything.

And as I walked away from Thanatos' castle, I knew that my journey was far from over. But I was ready, more than ready, to face whatever came my way.
