Chapter 12 - XII

"Packing up?" Maya asked her human self who was frantically looking around the room

She was a bit shocked even though she was expecting it. The moment they left Margaret, Abelia started fighting for control of herself by taking deep breaths while Maya waited for her to calm down on her own, knowing that if she interfered, it might destroy her progress.

She thought they were going to have a little chat before anything but when they got inside their tent, Abelia started packing up her valuables into a hunting bag, which then aroused the question Maya asked

"Yes Maya, as you can see" she replied without stopping her packing process

Just then another breeze blew, signifying that rain would be starting soon and Abelia felt slightly irritated at everything because why would rain decide to fall today of all days, above all feelings, she was scared that the camp members were going to be barging in her tent any moment

On a normal day, she wouldn't have touched Margaret, not to talk of injuring her, but for some reasons unknown to her, she couldn't suppress her emotions and she ended up lashing out, bad

For all her claim to have the greatest self-control, she was disappointed and a little bit surprised at the fact that Maya didn't influence her flare up, it was all her and her demon

"Would you at least share your plans with me? As you know, I have no access to your side of the brain" Maya said, curiosity filling her to the brim as she wondered about what was going through Abby's mind, while also making sure she threaded carefully as she could feel the anger in her human self, and it's something she knows she wouldn't want to cross

"To pack the little things that matter and get the hell out of here in a maximum of seven minutes," Abelia said as she held the little wolf her best friend had carved for her as a birthday gift, not that she was sure of her actual birth date but that day was the day her mother always gave her the best things before she died

"And why is that?" Maya asked as the little reply didn't quench her curious thirst

Abelia struggled to hold in her groan and she succeeded

"Maya, the last thing I need right now is your playing with my strings," she said as she threw the carved wolf into her bag "You're smart Maya, think" she completed before moving to her cloth box

"I'm sorry, I didn't intend to do that and I would really love to think right now, but then if you can remember, I don't have access to your side of the brain, so," Maya said, carefully choosing her words since an internal fight isn't all the best too

"As you are well aware, I just told Maggie my problem, and I didn't just tell her, I hurt her and then threatened her.

Knowing Maggie, once she feels too pressured with everything, she'll go meet the council, tell them everything I did, how I jeopardized the camp, hurt her, and all that, then they'll come looking for me, and that shouldn't happen because then, I won't able to make it back to our mate" Abelia said, making sure to leave no detail out so her wolf won't ask questions and she can focus on packing

"So, before any of that happens, you want to get out of here" Maya said nodding her head as she caught all the pointers and understood what Abelia was doing

"Yes," Abelia said, letting out a deep breath

Everything was seeming confusing even though it was clear and she got irritated because of it. It was one thing to cause trouble, it was another to become homeless, not to talk of being on the verge of being mate-less as her chances of being accepted are slim.

She couldn't help but question her earlier action and how she lost her self-control like that, she also couldn't help but think about how everything could've been avoided if she had handled the situation better

And she had a lot of opportunities to do that

It's not like she's not familiar with Maggie, so she knows how she talks and all, she just felt bad for hurting her and then leaving without apologizing

She also feels bad because she won't be saying goodbye to Noah too, and he's going to hear all about what she did from Maggie or anyone that breaks the news after Maggie tells the camp council. He's going to feel disappointed because she didn't tell him first or tell him before she went away, and knowing Noah, he's going to hold a grudge

"It's not up to two hours yet, do you think our mate will be there early? If he is, what if…" Maya started saying before Abelia cut her off thinking about how right she is

"Maya, don't breed thoughts into my head," Maya said as she let out a labored breath

"The plan is to wait for him and pray he comes before time goes or before this rain falls, but after two hours thirty minutes elapse and he doesn't show up, I'm leaving for good, never looking back " she replied as she rounded up her packing, gave her room a once over just to make sure she isn't forgetting anything, killed all nostalgic feeling and then stepped out of the tent

"The camp is being covered by magic Abby, what if Maggie already told the council and the witch is on the watch? Or what if the witch is on the watch generally? It's almost time for her to renew the shield, remember" Maya said as the tiny but vital detail sprouted into her mind and Abelia didn't know how to feel about it

She felt the need to just scream as the realization of how bad her situation was dawned on her

One of the many reasons the camp they're in is so safe is because there is a rogue witch who mastered shield magic in the camp and she has been the one keeping the camp safe from pack wolves eyesight.

If not because they were invited to the camp, she and Maggie might not have seen the camp, and talk less of being a member. When they entered and got initiated, they were told the witch keeps watch of the outskirts of the camp all the time and she strengthens the shield in the evening so whatever they want to do outside, they should be back before evening, else, they won't be able to enter

Now, it's evening, and truly, the probability of the shield getting strengthened any moment from now is very high

"You know what, you're right," Abelia said to her wolf and she adjusted the bag so it rested comfortably on her back "Which is why we move fast, if we don't try, we won't know" she concluded and Maya nodded her head in understanding

"But then, I will need you to do something," Abelia said as she reasoned the dangers she could encounter and she could foolproof her plan while she took on the path that led to the forest

"Borrow you my strength?" Maya asked, ready to do everything to make sure they make it out of the camp as soon as they can

"No," Abelia said with a roll of her eyes and a small smile found its way to her face "My strength is enough to take us out in two minutes," she said shaking her head

"Okay, I didn't intend for you to smile, but if you do that, I'm not complaining," Maya said with a little smile of her own

'This lady is too lucky to have me in her life' she thought, her little smile getting bigger

"Stop being cocky, I need you to hide our scent," Abelia said and Maya stopped smiling to search her brain for the reason why that skill is required

"And why is that?" she asked as she could not come up with a reason
