"It's just an extra caution, what if the pack members are already on their way, or what if someone caught a whiff of our scent? And comes looking for us?" Abelia replied before stopping in her tracks as she got confused on the right route
"You still remember the road we passed the day we saw that big snake?" she asked Maya hoping she remembers
"Oh, yes," Maya replied as she juggled her memory "that's where you wish to pass?" she asked, confusion seeping into her brain
"Yes, it'll be easier to evade rogues and camp guards if we pass there" Abelia said, looking around to assess the road, hoping she gets a hint and remembers, even though it has been a while
"True," Maya said after some seconds
"Okay, it's a small road path by the left, it's so tiny though, we'll have to climb trees too because I don't think anyone has passed there since that day" Maya said, trying to discourage her human self from taking the route and Abelia saw through her immediately
"Climbing trees should not be difficult for us Maya, or are you still scared of snakes?" she asked chuckling while walking forward, finding the small road path
"It's not that, we've seen many snakes! I'm not scared of them!" Maya said in an attempt to defend herself but with the way her voice rose up defensively, she knew she failed woefully
"But not many big snakes" Abelia said with a laugh as she remembered the day
"It was too big" Maya said, lamely defending herself
"And you decided to hide for two days because of it" Abelia said, making sure mockery is evident in her voice
"You shouldn't be mocking me, you knoe that right?" Maya said as Abelia found the little spot her wolf was talking about
"Is this the road?" Abelia asked, looking around to make sure she wasn't being followed, while also taking in a deep breath, analyzing the scent to make sure there isn't anything other than leaves, earth and rain in the air
"Yes it is" Maya replied as she slowly prepared to disappear
"Don't go anywhere Maya, you know I need you to tell me if anything's about to happen" Abelia said, reading her wolf like an open book and Maya groaned in response
"I told you to master the art of sensing danger but you said no!" Maya complained, PTSD overcoming her as Abelia walked into the forest
"I have you! Why do I need to learn it?" Abelia said rolling her eyes
"Because of situations like this silly!" Maya said whining while Abelis laughed as she thought about how much of a baby her wolf is
"Stop complaining silly, just focus on the environment and tell me where to avoid" Abelia said as she broke a branch that was in her way
Maya couldn't help the shiver she felt and she knows it's not because of any danger, it's because she could remember how big the snake they saw that day was, and how scared she was at the sight
She had a lot of things she wanted to say but instead she said
"You know we can just pass the entrance right? Or anywhere other than here" Maya said, another shiver passing through her
"Maya" Abelia called as a warning "firstly, stop shivering, it's affecting me," she said msking sure her seriousness can be sensed and felt
"Secondly, hide our scent for goddess's sake!" she said and Maya wanted to whine but Abelia sent her a glare which she sensed
"Passing the entrace is stupid and you know, here's the safest route, we'll get out of the shield faster and probably get to that spot soon too" she concluded and Maya decided to suck her fear up and do as she's told, the more she focuses on something else, the morr her mind leaves the image of the snake behind
Hiding scent is a skill not many werewolves could carry out as it is hard and it requires a lot of training and self-punishment to be able to carry it out successfully. Also, most werewolves are disconnected from their wolves so they can't even stop their scent circulation.
She had to learn it when she was growing up as it was the only way she could enter camp borders without getting caught, but she couldn't keep it up till she got older because the art is energy draining.
"Good girl" Abelia said giving her wolf a virtual pat on the head after seeing that she wasn't going to whine anymore
After some seconds, she took a whiff to see if her scent is completely masked after seeing that Maya had carried out her assignment, she got set to race her way out the camp
As she jumped from tree to tree she thought of how much she would miss this particular camp and prayed the camp would be safe without her, not that she brought safety to the camp, instead, she kept jeopardizing the camp, just like she did the last one.
She knew Margaret was right but she wasn't ready to talk it out
There are also a lot of things tied to the fire incident that she couldn't tell anyone and the last thing she would want is the same thing happening to this camp.
It was full of life, and Noah. The camp's chief is also very friendly. She remembered the first time she came to the camp, the chief had a bright smile on her face, she was full of life even though she was a rogue, and that really brightened and softened her resolve because she was skeptical about the whole situation, after all, it was rare to meet a nice rogue who'd be willing to form a pack.
"What if they find the pack?" Maya asked, voicing out Abelia's fear
"If our mate accepts us, we'll be able to protect it" Abelia replied as if she's trying to reassure herself and not Maya
"What if he doesn't? What if he acts like others wolves and turn against us?" Maya said
She did try to keep her mind from going astray, but there was only so little she could do since there are a lot of things that could occupy her mind if she doesn't choose a focus go
"Well, in that case, we'll do anything it takes to survive, even if it involves taking him down" Abelia said and immediately after a thunder striked in the sky
"That sounds more like, are you being delusional Abelia" Maya said after the shout stopped
"Shut up" Abelia said knowing what Maya was trying to say "I'm only trying to say we will have to survive while we pray for the camp to be safe"
Maya understood the message but still wanted to hear a good plan because it was starting to seem like they were moving forward without much thought
"And who said we can't take on an Alpha, we've never tried but we're strong enough, you know that" Abelia said with all seriousness and Maya shook her head
"You say that without knowing your opponents strength" she said dismissively and Abelia pouted as she jumped on the ground and then started running "and he's our mate for goddess sake, you think you can kill him? You think I can?" Maya said, opening Abelia's mind
'She's right' she thought
Even werewolves that don't have connections with their wolves gets tied up in the mate bond, not to talk of her who's in full sync with her wolf
"We're out of the shield" Maya said as she felt the usual tingles that passes through only her whenever they step through the shield
She hated the feeling and when she first felt it, she complained a lot but even afyer she got used to it, she still hated it. It always gives her a bad feeling inside of her
"Okay, good" Abelia replied
'If only regret is an option', she thought as she wondered where she was going to find a camp so good and secure if she ended up getting rejected
Suddenly their sense got heightened and they both knew who it was
"He's here earlier than I thought" Abelia stated
"I guess this bad news will come earlier than expected then" Maya said with a slight chuckle
