Chapter 11 - XI

She's right, Abelia does get hot-headed and always has a knack for trouble whenever she has an episode, which entails her having a bad dream, waking up in a trance, and when she finally gets herself together, she feels great blood thirst, one she always suppress and instead, go out and break some rules

"I am only trying to make sure we aren't in danger because for goodness's sake Abby, I can't keep running away from camp all because of you," Maggie said and a rope in Abelia's brain snapped

"Oh wow, how sweet of you Maggie, caring for the entire world," Abelia said, totally sarcastic "That must be a very big weight on your shoulders," she said as she ruffled her hair, and Maya who was asleep started to gain consciousness

"Abelia" Margaret started but Abelia cut in

"Well, the blood stain is from the pack perimeter's iron mesh. I entered the pack and almost got caught, I barely escaped and got wounded in the process" she replied looking Maggie dead in the eye, reading every emotion that came off her face, from digesting her words, to realization and shock

"Abelia, you did what?" Margaret asked, trying to re-read the plain words Abelia said to her

"You heard me right Maggie, I can't repeat myself" Abelia replied as she ruffled her hair again, distress seeping into her blood

Now, someone knows about this, and that someone is Maggie, who is most likely going to blow the whistle

'Should we kill her?' she heard in her head and her eyes went wide before she blinked the thought away

This is the first time in ages the voice will be speaking up, and it normally doesn't talk when her wolf is asleep and that scared her a lot

"Oh, yes, I heard you, Abelia! For fucks sake why are you always doing this?" Maggie said and Abby felt like someone was playing with the strings of her self-control, she could feel Maya who was now awake and irritated and she struggled to keep her at bay for the wolf wasn't going to hesitate to take it all out on their little friend

"Doing what?" Abelia asked calmly as she tried to listen again for the voice, hoping to the heavens that she heard it all wrong

"Trespassing!" Maggie replied exasperatedly

Abelia always does it, to cause trouble, they've been lucky to be able to get a new camp after the last camp got burned, all because Abelia drew attention to it, since then, they've been running from both rogues and pack wolves

When they came across this camp, who was oblivious to their identity, she made her promise she wouldn't trespass, but apparently, she was kidding herself for believing the sicko of a rogue

"Because I can Maggie, life's easier that way, now if you'll excuse me" Abelia replied in one breath and then stood up to start walking away when Margaret got in her way

"Did you just say life's easier that way?" she asked and Abelia looked at her as if she had two heads, wondering how she wasn't seeing that she was having a hard time controlling herself

"Life's easier that way?" Margaret said again, wondering how Abelia could say such words "Do you know how many lives were lost the last time you brought attention to a camp? How many kids got burned?" she asked, already angry at Abelia for taking the situation so lightly

"Can you remember the number of months we had to spend, wandering around, trying to find a perfect shelter? How many months have we used to run away from refugees from the last camp? Can you remember Abelia?"

Abelia remembered it all, the good, bad, and ugly of the day she was talking about, how everything went down from the beginning to the end. The images and scenes from that day still haunt her

"Don't tell me about remembrance Maggie, I had no choice" Abelia said, trying to defend herself

They had never actually talked about that day, and she was grateful that Maggie decided to still be friends with her even after everything that happened, but that doesn't mean now is the right time for friendly conversations, not that there'll ever be a time again

"You had a choice, Abby! Just like now! You know it's not safe! But you keep jeopardizing everybody and that's too selfish!" Maggie said and Abelia fumed with anger but managed to roll her eyes

"This is really not the time for a reality check Maggie, let me go," Abelia said before sidestepping Margaret who dragged her back by her hand

"You don't get to talk like that Abby! Not after…" Maggie started saying before she felt pressure on her throat, which kept on getting heavier as her feet were lifted above the ground

Abelia was angry, so angry she felt the metallic blood taste in her mouth and she had a very strong urge to rip her friend's throat off her body

"Ab-be-lia," Maggie said, strained as she lost airflow but instead of releasing her, Abelia intensified the pressure in her hold, enabling her nails to dig into Maggie's throat

Maggie felt like she was dying, her eyeballs were strained and her chest hurt from lack of air. She clawed at Abelia's hand while flinging her legs about, hoping she would get released but she didn't, instead the pain intensified, and with each passing second, she felt she was closer to death.

She decided to send a plea to her through her eyes and what she saw terrified her

Abelia wasn't looking like Abelia, she didn't even look predatory, and neither did she look like she was going to shift. She only had a hollow in her eyes, one that told her she could be losing her life any moment from now, and she trembled from one more reason that impending death

"You tell me what to do again, or try to stop my movement again and I will rip your throat off your body, tear you limb by limb, and scatter your body parts," Abelia said, menace and anger in her voice, making it sound strange and raw to even her ears

After some seconds, she released Margaret from her hold, threw her against the tree, and heaved a sigh

"And don't worry about the trespassing situation, I have it all under control," she said to Margaret who was busy fighting for breaths and nursing pain from all parts of her body

Abelia's definition of 'I have it all under control' seemed rather questioning if Maya was asked though
