Chapter 33 - Chapter 8

Ava nodded, in agreement. If up until that point she was brimming with excitement after that, she turned all giddy and giggly.

" May I have this dance?" The all too familiar gruff voice woke me up and Ava turned to Mason all smiles.

" Of course," She jumped into his arms, making Mason frown, and roll his eyes. I inwardly chuckled and glanced at Ava who glued herself to his chest. The girl was forward, no doubt, something that I never was.

" I was asking Miss Abernathy," Mason said in annoyance as he peeled Ava off him who seemed unwilling to let go of him.

" She can dance with you after," Ava giggled, and straightened her dress, pushing up her ample bosom. She was small, but gifted, even my eyes went to her breasts. She most certainly was his type. For a brief moment, I wished I had the same courage as Ava to throw myself at him, but I knew nothing good would come of it.

" Miss Morston," Mason sternly said " Miss Abernathy is my companion for the night, and I believe that she should be the one to have the first dance," Mason's tone softened a bit when Ava pouted.

" She gets to see you every day," Ava mumbled downcast, and I couldn't believe my ears. I glared at the entitled brat.

Mason chuckled, but there was no amusement in his eyes" I see. You shall have the next one, Miss Morston," Mason patted her on the shoulder, and once again reached his hand to me.

I didn't wait to be asked again, and I took his hand in mine as we sashayed our way to the dance floor. A new song began playing, it was a waltz. I knew the steps to it, but I have never danced. I panicked, and looked eyes with Mason, worried at the eyes on us.

" I've never done this before," I breathed out the words as the music began to swell.

" Just follow my lead. Drift to the music," Mason graced me with one of his charming smiles and once again, I found myself in desperate need to kiss his lips.

I nodded instead and took his hands unsure how the dance would end or even if we would make it to the end without me tripping on my own feet. Mason placed his hand on the small of my back, and gently pulled me closer. I had to take a deep breath to keep my soaring emotions under control.

" You look absolutely stunning," Mason crooned in my ear, making my breath hitch when his cheek brushed against mine as we began to sway on the dance floor.

" Thank you," I breathlessly said, that was all I was able to put together. Once more, all of me was focused on him, and everything faded. It was a chaste touch, but not to me. I wanted him more than anything. I would've given anything just for a simple kiss.

We drifted to the music, I had no idea what I was doing, but Mason took the lead and I followed, still engrossed in the feel of him. Once again I had lost control of my thoughts, and daydreamed of him, us. By the time the dance ended, I was a complete mess on the inside. I needed time away.

" Thank you for the lovely dance," Mason crooned and kissed the back of my hand.

I just hummed, unable to put two and two together.

" My turn now," Ava beamed from behind me and I was grateful to be offered the chance to take a breath.

" Of course, Miss Morston" Mason took his hand off the small of my back as I stepped aside to face the shortish girl.

" All yours, Ava," I breathed the words, and I made my way through the crowd trying to find a bathroom or a corner where I could pull myself together. I knew that Mason and Ava watched me as I rudely left, but I felt I couldn't breathe anymore. I had suffocated my feelings for him for so long and now they were coming to take their revenge on me.

When I finally found a bathroom, I walked and locked the door behind me, and slid down on it, onto their cold marbled floor. It took a hot minute to realise, I was panting, and sweating even though it wasn't even that hot in the hall.

The door knob turned, someone needed the damn bathroom. Shit, the timing some people have. I pushed myself off the floor, glanced at the mirror to see if there we any smudges on my face and unlocked the door.

One last deep breath to prepare myself to face Mason and everyone else before I opened the door.

" I'm sorry to keep you waiting," I managed to muster something that resembled a smile to the woman who was waiting at the door.

" It's alright, dear. We've all been there. One glass too many, and you find yourself with you'd head in the toilet, " The woman amusedly said thinking that I had drank too much.

" Thank you for understanding, " I amusedly said, she was way off the mark, but I wasn't in the mood to have a debacle on such a frivolous matter.

With measured steps, instead of going back to the ballroom I turned left and made my way through the corridors, leading away from it. I wasn't feeling any wear near ready to face Mason. I must've looked like a fool, but I was sure I would be hearing all about it in the morning.

When I finally found a spot secluded enough, I sat down leaning against the wall, hugging my knees, enjoying the quiet around me. I found it soothing, I wasn't used to being around so many people, balls and the fancy things that rich people did. Silence was all I needed, and for once my mind was blank. I just stared at the dark starry sky, as the moon rose over the horizon.
