Looking at the empty character profile that was on the screen in front of me, realization flashed through my mind and I snapped my head back to look at Damien but was annoyed to see that he had already disappeared.
No, that doesn't make sense. He still needs to send my soul into Neo-Oblivion, he's probably just watching from the void to see what choice I will make in regard to my lifepath.
"Ok, let's get the simple stuff out the way first," I said as I started to type in the name I would go by in this new world.
My old name and life were now gone. I couldn't even remember my past name anymore, not that it really matters now so the only option left was to make a new one.
Thinking quickly of the possible options I smiled and nodded with satisfaction as I finally decided my name for my new journey.
[Zaire Tiji]
After typing in my new name I frowned when I saw that there was no option when it came to my age. There wasn't even a greyed-out option, it was just blank.
"I'm guessing that my age will be determined based on my background or maybe Damien or whatever his name is will be the one to decide my age," I spoke, still staring at the age option.
Ignoring the age for now I looked below the age column and gazed at one of the three most important options in this entire creation screen: Race.
Race was extremely important, especially for someone like me who is blessed with the option of choosing their race.
There were a bunch of races in Blood of Darkness but the main ones that were mentioned were Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, Vampires, Demons, Werewolves, and a bunch of others. Each race came with its own advantages and disadvantages. There was no such thing as the 'strongest race' or the most 'overpowered'. Things like that solely depended on who the person was.
Blood of Darkness was renowned for its power scaling and making the techniques, skillset, and intelligence of the characters crucial in how they handled things, which was especially so in combat. For example, on paper based on the most known races Demons and Vamipres would probably be the strongest right? Well, that's not the case.
Sure their racial advantages give them an edge but skill and technique can bridge the gap easily. Demons were monsters in physical combat and almost unbeatable, the more they fight the stronger they get, but they are also beings of sin who fall very easily to their desires, making them very easy to scheme against and they are at best used as foot soldiers.
Sure there were some anomalies among them who had really high intelligence and posed a very serious threat but those were few and far between. If I play my cards right I won't even be a blip on their radar which is a necessity right now since if I get on their bad side I'll be as good as dead.
I actually have to think long and hard about this. My race is actually the most important decision for me since it will determine which elements I have an affinity for and how I will interact with society.
Thankfully I read deep into the novel so I know about the different types of subspecies of the main races and I already knew what race I wanted to be.
[Choose your Race]
Human
Vampire
Demon
Elf
Werewolf
Dwarf
Dragon
Fey
...
Scrolling down the options my eyes gleamed with happiness when I saw the option I was looking for and immediately selected it without any hesitation.
[Hybrid Race selected. Please choose the two races you want to be a Hybrid of]
"I chose to be a Human/Elf Hybrid," I decided.
[Please choose the subspecies of the Elven race you want to be of]
High Elf
Light Elf
Moon Elf
Dark Elf
Blood Elf
Ancestral Elf
...
Looking down on the long list of Elven subspecies I ignored and crossed out all of them except for two of them: Moon Elf and Dark Elf.
I already knew what my archetype would be like when I stepped into Neo-Oblivion. I would be an assassin-type build that was focused on speed, close combat, lethality stealth, and magic.
I didn't make this decision because it was the most overpowered. In fact, it was far from that, I made this decision because I knew that this was the best one for me based on my mannerisms, personality, and morality.
I was always the type of person to get things over and done with in the most efficient manner. An assassin is perfect for someone like me as assassins are not meant to fight but to kill in the most efficient manner possible regardless of the situation or tactics.
I was the type to scheme behind the shadows and watch the chaos unfold type of person. I would make a plan and watch it all from the sidelines and watch all my pawns argue amongst themselves and cause chaos among each other while I watched on the side untouched. While they would make betrayals, backend deals and throw all morals and dignity out the window in pursuit of getting at the bottom of the scheme I would always make sure to be right on the sidelines making sure that never came true.
While they would be thinking that I was helping them, in reality, I was leading them astray and right into my palms, letting them fall into the illusion that they were getting closer to the truth while in reality, they were getting nowhere in the best case scenario. Shit, those fools were usually going backward.
As for those who were unfortunate enough to find me out and try to take me out...well that's the beauty of being an assassin. You don't have to show yourself and draw attention, you can take out your opponent without anyone ever knowing and before your opponent even realizes it they're already dead and you're back to assuming your role.
It was due to this that I was stuck between these two subspecies of elves: Moon Elf and Dark Elf.
Both specialized in assassination but they both had different expertise.
Moon Elves were assassins but they were more attuned with magic than Dark Elves. They were amazing at illusions and could kill the enemy without ever laying a hand on them. They were known as ghost elves since you would never see them coming and you would never see them leave. They were also very charming and amazing swindlers, I remember reading about a Moon Elf who plotted the downfall of an entire organization and he didn't even kill anybody he just planted the seeds of doubts and let his charm do the rest.
Dark Elves were far more lethal when it came to the killing aspect as they were more attuned to hand-to-hand combat than magic, but that didn't mean that they were not gifted in magic. No, they were very gifted at it even among elves, The only elves that could best them in this category were High Elves, Ancestral Elves, Light Elves, and Moon Elves. Dark Elves were just a lot better in physical combat.
They were perfect for assassinations and espionage which were essential for me since I would be scheming most of the time while I was building up my strength but there was just one thing that made the difference between them as wide as the distance between Heaven and Earth in my eyes.
Dark Elves were among those who had the highest affinity for the two elements that I wanted to have at any cost so it went without saying that I didn't hesitate when I firmly made my choice of race.
