Chapter 7 - Awakening II

Feeling a burst of dense killing intent erupting from behind immediately after my father finished his sentence my back tensed.

It didn't take a genius to get to the bottom of the who and why behind the killing intent. It was very clear that the Duchess was repulsed by my presence and took immense self-control for her to not kill me on sight.

"Calm down Cassandra." My father said charming yet calmly, it's not like he was trying to flirt with her, but seemed to be just how his voice naturally was, "We already talked about this. You will not lay a hand on my son."

Cassandra's killing intent dispersed after those words but not long after that came a burst of disdain-filled laughter, "Son? By whose right? He's not your son, he's just a spawn you fucked into some whore." She spat.

But instead of feeling anger from her insults I just felt nothing but indifference and amusement.

I turned around, looking at the enchanting body of the Duchess, and couldn't help but be impressed at the selection of my father. He sure knew how to pick them.

Seems like we shared the same taste.

Feeling my lustful intent Cassandra didn't seem to be offended in the slightest to my surprise but she instead seemed to feel pride that I was looking at her like this, which only confused me.

Does she hate me or want me? What the hell is going on?

"Well father, your taste in women isn't ass. That's something I can give you credit for at least." I spoke and turned back to follow my dad down the now-open passageway that opened behind the wall and lead to a staircase that went downstairs.

Cassandra didn't follow us surprisingly which only left me, my father, and the silence of the massive secret passageway that was disturbed by the echoes of our footsteps.

Me and him didn't say a single word to each other and I liked it that way. I was always a soft-spoken person. I didn't like people and was completely fine with being by myself, but don't get shit mistaken I was only in solitude by choice, not because I had no social skills.

A/N: Ya'll cool with being alone? TBH I am. I don't really like people, but I find it weird because if the situation requires it I can be pretty social.

About five minutes later we stopped in front of a black platform that glowed with purple runes and was dense with Gamma. It didn't take me long to realize that this was an awakening chamber.

Awakening chambers were exclusive to only the higher class of society. Nobles and Royals used them to hide their secrets and methods that they had for better results of awakening for the family and clan members.

Each family and clan had their own method that they used during the awakening process for their young talents. It was usually some weird ass ancestral ritual or some weird shit like that. I forgot what family it was but they sacrificed babies and used their blood to increase the talents of their clan members.

Shit was fucking crazy and that's probably the most humane ritual I remember reading from Blood of Darkness.

A/N: This world fucked up. Just a disclaimer and all lol.

I stepped onto the platform and sat in the lotus position as the runes began to flicker and the Gamma started to become denser and purer.

"Looks like it's about to begin." My father said as the Gamma began to flow through my body, "Don't disappoint me Zaire." He said coldly.

Ignoring his threat I fully focused on the Gamma that was circulating through my body and began to form my magic core.

The magic core was formed in the heart and was the source of the power of any Elementalist. After one finished forming their magic core they would then unlock the chakra of whatever element they had an affinity to. There was a way to find out the element of an Elementalist before the awakening process but that was completely monopolized by the royals and guarded with the highest level of security. Even the boldest nobles couldn't find a shred of proof it exist but they knew that it definitely did.

The process of awakening was simple. In the beginning, the person would let the Gamma circulate in the body, letting the body get fully tempered by it, and then once that was done they would then begin to form their magic core.

Once that was done a sudden burst of gamma would erupt from within the core and a phenomenon would happen. A phenomenon is an event that would happen around the person who was awakening and would determine which property and elemental chakra they unlocked.

Once I formed my magic core successfully a massive burst of pure gamma erupted from my core and I struggled to contain it as I felt my elemental chakras unlocking.

This was the most crucial part of the awakening process. The harder it was to contain, the higher the talent of the awakened but it was only worth celebrating after the awakening was successfully completed.

If one fucked up at this stage they would explode into a bloody mist, and that was the best-case scenario. If they survived then they would for sure be crippled and if that was the case then they were better off just committing suicide right after.

Stabilizing the turbulent flow of gamma I felt two different bursts of energy flow through my magic core. One was green energy that condensed into a sphere that seemed to have a violent storm going around it and the other was eerie black energy that I couldn't seem to sense even though it was right in front of me and it condensed into a shadow sphere that had faint glows of violet.

When I opened my eyes to the outside world I was greeted by a horrid gale storm that was blowing everything away, including my father's suit even though he still stood there as firm as a mountain.

But before I could marvel at the phenomenon, a cold, horrid chill raced down my spine as I felt the reaper's blade being pressed upon my neck. It was as if death was all but a certain fate but at the same time not. Giving me the illusion or false hope that escape was a possible scenario.
