What...What...What the hell was that?!
Standing still drenched in cold sweat I could still feel the lingering chill that ran down my spine when Zaire's phenomenon happened. When I felt the air around me rage and begin to turn into a gale storm I beamed with pride.
The families and clans of the higher society all had an element they were known for due to how many Elementalists of that specific element were born into that family and they treated it as a sigil or sign of recognition of their house or clan and it could be more than one element. For example, the Tiji Family's element was mainly Darkness but our secondary element was Wind. We rarely had any Wind Elementalist in the family so most think that we're just a Dark Elementalist family.
The Royals were a Space Elemental family and the Shu Clan, one of the strongest Noble Clans in Atlantica were terrifying Ice Elementalists.
But just because some houses may have the same elements as others doesn't mean they have the same properties.
For example, one house could be a Fire Elementalist house but its flames have more destructive properties than others while another house's Fire Elementlist has flames that burn brighter than others. Based on this one couldn't treat any Elemetalist of the same element as them like any other opponent.
This specialization of the elements was known as properties and they came with their own advantages and disadvantages such as immunities. These properties were loosely based on what specialization you were but the reason behind the assignment of properties is still unknown to this day.
But we were still able to make accurate guesses based on the profession of the Elementalist. In Zaire's case since he's an Assassin the property of his wind element should be Kinetic. This will allow him to move at insane speeds that will make him imperceptible to the naked eye. It will also make him able to perceive any speed no matter how fast the person is going. The only way he would lose in that category is if the person is stronger than him or the element the person is using surpasses wind in speed which would be the Light Element in his case.
But what had my entire being reeling in fear was the phenomenon that had happened when he awakened his Dark Chakra. Dual Elementals we rare, very rare, they were highly sought after by everyone. The Royals have tried to monopolize them for years but gave up when pretty much every noble house had at least one.
I expected Zaire to inherit the usual Obscure property that was exclusive to the Tiji Family. The phenomenon for that would just be a large shadow forming over Zaire and if his talent for it was high then the entire chamber would have gone completely black for a few seconds before returning to normal.
But this one...this one was fucking horrifying.
A shadow didn't appear over Zaire. In fact, nothing seemed to happen, that was what I thought until I focused harder on him, and what I found shook my soul to its core.
I couldn't sense him!
It didn't matter how much I tried or what abilities and properties I used. He was right fucking there, dead in front of my face and I couldn't sense his presence at all. It was as if he completely disappeared from existence. It made absolutely no sense.
Dark Elves were the masters of espionage, which included reconnaissance and tracking as our senses were nearly second to none. It was one of the many racial traits that made us being attuned to the darkness element that much scarier. We were the best assassins only rivaled by Moon Elves.
So for him to completely escape my sense even though he's dead in my sights was fucking alarming. it was akin to having all our senses cut off.
But right when I thought that this hell would end it only got worse when I felt a cold blade inching on my neck.
My aura flared but before it could even fully manifest a chill along with the feeling of absolute death ran through my entire body, sinking deep into my bones.
Despair flared in my heart as the chill only got stronger and when the fear reached its absolute peak my brain seemed to have flipped a switch in my head as I felt that even with all of this I could still survive.
Yes, even with the feeling of inevitable death settling deep into my body I still had confidence in survival.
Hope. The illusion of the weak, pathetic, and naive.
But just as fast as the feeling appeared it left just as fast. It felt like the phenomenon never even existed in the first place but the tear that was running down the left side of my cheek was more than enough proof that what happened was real.
It also made me feel absolute despair for the first time, something I will remember for the rest of my days.
Zaire had changed. I had no idea if it was for better or for worse but one thing was clear for certain.
A monster had awakened in the Tiji Family but that wasn't what had me reeling:
Dezryn wasn't the only monster that had awakened in the Tiji Family but was the fourth and last of all my children that had monstrous awakenings.
Him, a bastard that I had fucked into that cunning human bitch...
I burst out into a peal of dark and sadistic laughter that made the entire awakening chamber shake poured out of my lips as my aura busted out to the heavens.
Zaire opened his eyes, revealing a haze of emerald as he stood up on his feet and began to stretch and observe his body, getting accustomed to being an Elementalist now.
"You look as if you've seen a ghost yet you're laughing hysterically Father. You good?" Zaire asked with a dark smile.
Calming down from my short spur of mania, I wiped my eyes appeared in front of my son, and patted his head as I smiled inwardly with pride.
"Oh, I'm good son. In fact, I'm more than good. It seems like shit will get interesting from this point onward. Looks like Nightfall will be even more dangerous now."
