Fallen Angel
Chapter 2
I've been living my best life ever since I was kicked out of heaven. It's been over 3 years since then, here on Earth, but in Heaven, it won't be up to 3 hours.
At first, I wasn't the friendly type, which made people call me "Hermit" instead of "KAD".
Whenever I call it for them they giggle and laugh saying it's a whack name. Such insolence! only if they knew who I was. Later on, I started familiarizing myself with them(humans) and now I have a job and friends unlike 2 years ago when I lived on the street lying on the cold floor, perpetual mental torture from Leviathan and Mephistopheles, rumination about my outright downfall were my only companion.
Now I live with my boss at work she goes by the name Becky. Earlier this year, she saw me on the streets and thought that a handsome young man like me shouldn't be on the streets. Yeah, angels seem to possess supernatural facial features. She took me in, sheltered me, and catered for my needs. She was so fascinated by me, just like my supreme Lord. She had twin daughters, whose father was no more. Audrey, who was the first was puerile and loquacious, despite her lofty age of 26. Naomi the other was aloof and had a pale face. They were my companions as we found glee in each other. Mrs. Becky didn't even see this as a fritz at all.
________
They were a large heap of plates on the kitchen sink and I had to wash them all before 8:00 am. I used my angelic powers to figure out the time, it was a quarter past seven. I began washing the plates as fast as I could. Then my mind kept bothering me, by making screeching sounds that only I could hear. It was a sign that I couldn't finish washing all the plates before 8:00 am. I peeped to look if anyone was in sight, but there was no one. I gazed at the plates, then my eyes glowed, and in under three seconds, all the plates were clean.
A familiar voice from behind cut in.
"Good morning Hermit" Audrey hollered
I turned immediately, I took a critical stare at her with my powers to know if she saw me. Then, I figured out she didn't.
"What? why are you staring at me like that?" She asked yawning
"Oh nothing"
"You've watched the dishes?"
"Yeah" I replied
"Thank you, you're such a darling" she cooed whilst drawing closer to me, attempting a kiss. I quickly dodged her to avoid such.
"Am sorry" She regained her sanity and felt embarrassed. I said nothing as the Hermit that I am.
"So you are ab..." She didn't finish before she suddenly froze. Which could only mean one thing, Mephistopheles and Leviathan were present. Continuous raucous laughter accompanied by whirling wind engulfed the atmosphere. Mephistopheles appeared in a humanoid form, an old man to be precise. Leviathan, on the other hand, appeared in the form of a tiny bat.
"What again Mephistopheles" I queried
" You've given me enough trouble for a century"
"Oh, poor child! we never came for trouble, we are here for peace" Leviathan said, with his voice echoing the entire building.
"What's good about the two angels," I said backing my hatred for them
"Jeez, he acknowledged us as angels," Mephistopheles said pretending to be happy
"Why are you here?" I asked sternly
"So, while you were away, we became good friends with the supreme Lord "
"That I thought" I curt in.
"Good friends that he could destroy this realm for us" Leviathan commented
"Interesting," I thought
"and so with the relationship we could ask him to reinstate you back to heaven, but demoted as an angel of second order, to avoid partiality" Mephistopheles explained
"No thanks " I replied flippantly
"Okay, with your archangel position, " Leviathan offered eagerly
"What's the price tag?" I demanded, knowing full well they won't offer much for free.
"Uhm, it's just a little task"
"You'll just have to pass through the celestial beyond to get something for us," Leviathan said.
I was bemused and in dismay.
The only valuable item outside the heaven was the Green eye, which in whose possession could rule the entire universe, and not even the supreme being could stop him.
With this, I clearly understood that they are trying to overthrow the supreme god.
"What!, you want the green eye?" I asked looking poleaxed
"Uhh, we are sorry for everything but you have to do it for us" Leviathan pleaded. I never thought I would experience this kind of situation, I thought I would always be a laughingstock of these two barbaric celestials. But now they are at my feet.
After several minutes of consideration and weighing of options, I cleared my throat before speaking.
"I can't backstab my Creator" I yelled
"He's arrogant!" Leviathan told Mephistopheles
"You have the chance KAD, don't throw it away" Mephistopheles warned
"We would give you time, in three days I want your response ".
"But remember the next time we'll come you may not have a choice, we may not be interactive, we may be violent and that little girly of yours may rot in my tummy" Leviathan warned using his real voice that's louder than concerts speakers
Then they disappeared.
"..out going with Mom to work" Audrey continued
I stood transfixed on the ground, I stared pitifully at Audrey and couldn't say a word. My mind drifted to all the people around me and the occupants of this realm. My heart would have trembled if I had one. I was in a state of melancholy.
"Hey, Hermit!!" Audrey yelled trying to snap me out of my reverie.
"What's happening?" Mrs. Becky came in
"Hermit isn't answering me and I don't know why?" She quibbled.
"I thought it was something serious" Mrs. Becky overlooked it and went back
"And by the Hermit, we better get going"
" Really Mom?"
I walked out of the kitchen and packed my stuff to the garage where I waited for Mrs. Becky.
We were about going and Mrs. Becky already started the engines before an Audrey-like figure with unkempt hair and dry nostrils stood in front of the car.
"Audrey would you please give way" her mom pleaded
" No!, not until Hermit apologizes to me"
Mrs. Becky stared at me, and I didn't seem to return the appeal.
"Okay, Hermit here doesn't want to apologize because he thinks he didn't do anything wrong"
"He did more than a thousand things wrong!!" Audrey retorted
Mrs. Becky exhaled deeply, short of words.
"I guess am following you to work today!"
Audrey marched into the car in fury and Mrs Becky had no option but to drive on.
_______
The drive was a very tiresome one as Audrey never stopped talking and Mrs Becky tried to pacify her.
"But Mom you're taking sides now?"
" No darling I'm just saying you should calm down".
We alighted at the parking lot and I quietly walked away to my station of work, leaving them to continue their thing.
"You see Mom, he's a jerk"
"Don't say that Audrey!".
I got to my station of work and began my cleaning and sale of drinks.
I worked as a bartender in the resort owned by Mrs Becky. The resort initially was her husband's but after his demise, Mrs Becky had to take over. The resort had a bar, beach, and hotel rooms for traveling guests.
A man who I could tell from his appearance was Hispanic came to buy a drink.
"Give me a strong wine" he ordered with a thick Hispanic accent.
"Okay sir, I've got liquor, champagne, vodka, whiskey which one do you want?"
"Give me the strongest"
"I guess that would be Spirytus with over 96% alcohol "
I arranged the bottle and gave him, then further took the bills.
I began articulating the orders from the beach to deliver.
In about 10 minutes I was done.
I decided to surf the internet to kill time, then I saw 15 missed calls from the one and only Audrey.
At a point, I wanted to return the call but I was skeptical thinking it will cause more harm than good.
After a few minutes more I couldn't help but return the call.
"Hi Audrey"
"Hi you stranger" she answered harshly from the other end of the phone.
"Okay, Audrey I get it you're angry and you have every right to, but I just want to say I'm sorry"
"Wait, you're sorry?" She asked childishly
"Yes I am, come see me at the bar," I told her and ended the call
In what seemed like a minute, the Petit figure of Audrey was standing at the front of the counter.
"So Hermit, guess what?"
"I'm not good at guessing Audie"
"Ok, Mom said she's going to buy me a car" she pitched swaying her now-kept hair
I heaved a sigh at first before deciding to speak.
"What's wrong?" She asked
"You know mom's not gonna buy that car, she only said that so she could placate you when you were angry" I spoke
Her smile contorted into a frown.
"I know what I'm saying Audie, Mom has been doing the same thing since you were 20 and now you're 26, I see no reason you should still fall for her tricks"
Her frown, now contorted into a sad face.
"I know but you don't have to be hard on me," she said
"I'm not being hard on you, am telling you the truth, you're old enough to get a job and buy your car"
"Okay thanks for the advice, you're a friend indeed"
"You're welcomed"
