I couldn't believe what was happening. A sword, a weapon, was talking to me! And not just talking, but acting sarcastic and teasing me like a close friend. I shook my head in disbelief, thinking I must be going insane. But the sword's voice continued to resonate in my head.
"I suppose talking swords aren't common in the world you're from right? What is your real name exactly?" the sword asked, still chuckling.
I hesitated before answering. I wasn't sure if I should be talking to a sword, but it seemed like I had no choice. "My name is Yamiru," I said slowly, still trying to process everything.
"Well, Yamiru, welcome to the world of the living weapons," the sword said with a grin. "And let me tell you, you're not from around here, are you?"
I felt a shiver run down my spine. How did the sword know that? Was it possible that this was all real? "What do you mean?" I asked cautiously.
The sword chuckled. "You've got a certain energy about you, kid. I've been around for over a thousand years, and I can read people like a book. And trust me, you're not from this world."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It was like something out of a fantasy novel. "How is that even possible?" I asked, feeling both intrigued and frightened at the same time.
The sword shrugged. "Beats me, kid. But here we are, soul bound together. And let me tell you, you're lucky to have me on your side. I've been through more battles than you can count, and I know how to handle myself in any situation."
I frowned at the sword's arrogance. "And what about me? What do I bring to the table?"
The sword chuckled again. "Haha well, we'll see what you'll bring to the table. Try using a spell. A fire bolt spell should be simple enough. Aim it outside the window and we'll see if you can do it."
"Firebolt?" I was shaken and confused. What is he talking about? "If you're a sword why would I use a spell-like firebolt? Isn't that more of a ranged spell?" I asked it.
"I'm what you call a spell-sword. I serve as both a ranged and melee weapon. Though unless you want to burn this nice room of yours. It'd be wise to shoot the spell outside where it can't burn anything here." The sword explains to me. "Anyways enough chit-chat show me what you can do."
I place the sword in front of me and took a deep breath, I then put my arm forward with the sword in hand. I imagined myself shooting the firebolt into the window but after a few seconds passed...
"Nothing happened... what.. what's going on?" I asked the sword.
"Well, obviously you didn't do it. Don't tell me you can't do it?" The sword said to me sarcastically.
"I mean I could.. but I don't know how to do it. Also didn't you say that you're a sword that has a lot of experience, doesn't that mean that you're powerful? How come I can't even do a simple firebolt when I use you?" I asked it.
"Well, that's because you did it wrong. You're supposed to shout out the spell and release your mana into it. Go on, try it again." The sword advises me.
Mana? What is that? I suppose that's the energy of magic, like in those RPG games I play? I followed what the sword said, I took a deep breath and put the sword forward, "Firebolt!" I shouted as loud as I can, with my eyes closed but when I opened them.
"Nothing happened." The sword said disappointed.
"How come nothing happened? I followed what you told me!" I asked the sword.
"That sounds like a skill issue honestly." The sword laughed.
"I see you're as encouraging as ever. No wonder my dad in this world left you in a box. He probably got annoyed, hearing your voice." I rolled my eyes at the sword.
"Jokes on you, your dad couldn't really hear me when he was using me. He sorta had me on mute, so while he was using me and chatting up with the women, I was just silently watching him." The sword chuckled.
"Ooh! So there's a mute button! Where is it?" I excitedly asked for the sword.
"No! No! Don't do that. If you mute, you're pretty much gonna be doomed. You already suck at using me. What more if you don't have a guide or a mentor to teach you?" The sword tried to bargain with me.
"You're just saying that because you don't want me to mute you." I squinted my eyes at the deceitful words.
"I mean no offense, but considering you aren't from this world. You're really gonna need all the help you can get and if I'm muted, then you're not going to get it." The sword reasoned with me.
I started feeling a little more comfortable with the sword's presence. It was like having a mentor or a coach, but one that was always with me. "Fine I guess you can stay, but what do we do now? How do I learn to actually use spells or whatever?" I asked, eager to get started.
The sword's tone turned serious. "I'm pretty sure that's what school is for but don't worry I'll be sure to teach you some tricks up my sleeve but first we need to keep a low profile. Don't tell anyone that I'm a living sword, if people find out how valuable I am, they'll kill you and take me to sell to the highest bidder so unless you want to be the next victim of the thieves and bandits you'd keep your mouth shut about me."
I nodded, feeling a sense of responsibility wash over me. It was like I had been given a gift, but it came with great responsibility. "I understand," I said, determined to make the most of this opportunity.
The sword's voice softened. "Good. I know this is a lot to take in but trust me, Yamiru, we're in this together. And together, we'll face whatever comes our way but anyway, if we are going to be together, you at least gotta treat me first, my blade sure does need some shining. Let's go to a forge or something."
I felt a sense of warmth fill my chest. Even though the sword was really annoying sometimes, it feels comforting to have someone with you in a time like this. He understands and knows that I'm not from this world so he can help me.
As we continued to talk, I realized that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even imagine. But for the first time in a long time, I felt excited about the future. And I knew that with the sword by my side, anything was possible even if he is annoying and sarcastic towards me.
