Chapter 25 - Elfon Family Mansion

The next day, Minos woke up as usual. After a quick breakfast at the inn's dining hall, he exited the place.

The first place he planned to check was naturally the most obvious one. The former residence of the Elfon family.

Of course he didn't make it too obvious, in case there were still people watching this place. Instead he ordered a coffee at a restaurant nearby, before checking out the area.

The mansion was naturally destitute, and despite the family having been slaughtered years ago, no one seemed interested in purchasing the property, leaving it on the verge of collapsing.

It made sense that no one wanted to live in a mansion an entire family was killed in, so until now the house was left untouched.

Minos wondered why they didn't simply tear it down, but they likely had their reasons, hence to this day it stands there, almost as a monument to the horrific act that had happened all those years ago.

After inspecting the place for about half an hour, Minos got nothing. It was clear that if he really wanted to find anything critical, he needed to get inside.

Of course, that was by no means an easy task. Some random young boy entering a house where an entire clan was killed wasn't exactly subtle, and people would instantly raise suspicions.

But on the other hand, his young age may actually be the perfect tool needed to not only get inside, but have no one question him even if they managed to catch him.

An idea quickly popped into Minos's head, but he needed some help first. Which shouldn't be too hard to get considering the targets he had in mind.

With a quick sweep of his eyes, he saw a group of kids, around his age, playing in the streets.

Minos's vision quickly latched onto the rubber ball the kids were kicking among themselves, and he couldn't help but smile.

Finishing his coffee that had already gotten cold in a single gulp. He walked up to the crowd, but was completely ignored.

They were fully invested in their game, paying no mind to Minos. Hence he had to clear his voice before speaking loudly.

"Excuse me guys, can I play?" He said, with a naive look on his face.

"Who are you kid?" Replied the oldest boy in the group, clearly in charge of this play session.

"I just moved here with my family not long ago, and I got bored staying inside. Seeing you guys playing made me want to join!" Minos said with a toothy grin.

The kids naturally wouldn't question that, and since an extra player didn't mean much, they quickly let him join.

Minos joined the crowd, running among them. Suddenly, the ball rolled to him, and with full force, he kicked it.

Since it was his first time playing, he completely missed the net, instead causing the ball to fly towards the Elfon residence, shattering a window, before disappearing inside the mansion.

All the kids suddenly froze as they realized what happened. The Elfon house was a huge taboo in Leaf Meadow City, and naturally kids their age were horrified by it, having no desire to get anywhere close.

The oldest boy couldn't help but let out an audible gulp before speaking. "N-new kid, since you're the one who lost the ball, you have to retrieve it."

"No way! I haven't been here for long, but I've heard all about the Elfon family. I don't want to die!" Minos argued, showing a horrified look on his face.

"That's the rule, kid. The one who loses the ball, has to retrieve it." The oldest boy said, with all the younger kids behind him quickly agreeing.

Eventually Minos seemed to give in, and under the crowds unbreaking stares, his shivering body slowly opened the doors of the massive residence before walking in, vanishing into the darkness.
