Chapter 27 - Pearl

But he only needed to hear it once. Grabbing a nearby stone, Minos began pelting the tooth over and over, not at all worried about destroying what was inside.

If the key to the inheritance was really in the tooth, then some slight force shouldn't be enough to break it, or else Minos would really have to question the origin of this inheritance.

With a couple more good blows, the tooth finally broke in two, revealing a small pearl like grain in the center.

Minos picked up the tiny pearl, which was about half the size of a fingernail, before inspecting it closely.

The first thing he noticed was that the pearl was hot, which was odd. It had been hanging around in a cold corpse for more than half a decade, yet it still carried heat.

Of course now wasn't the time to inspect it thoroughly. Minos quickly closed the coffin, before burying it in dirt once more.

After patting down the dirt and making sure he left no clues, he left the graveyard, pearl still in hand.

As he was walking, he noticed something strange. The pearls temperature was changing, and while the change was incredibly slight, it was still noticeable to Minos who had incredible control over his own body.

As he was heading further from the graveyard and closer to Leaf Meadow City, he noticed the pearl was getting colder.

'Could it be that the temperature indicates where the inheritance is located? Hot is close and cold is far.' Minos thought to himself.

Finally re-entering Leaf Meadow City, Minos quickly gathered his belongings from the inn before using the last of his money to buy a horse.

Since he had no idea how far this inheritance was, he naturally rejected the thought of walking. With the sun still being high in the sky, Minos whipped his horse, leaving the place once more.

With the horse, he could travel further and faster, but feeling the pearl, that's temperature had only gotten slightly hotter despite already having travelled 10 kilometers, he knew this journey would be a long one.

After another 40 kilometers, Minos decided to call it a day. The sun had already started to set at this point and his horse was exhausted.

Opening his map, he pinpointed a small temple nearby, and decided to use it as a camp for the night.

The temple was made out of old cracked grey stone, clearly having stood here for a long time. Despite its apparent age however, the insides were relatively tidy. It seemed people often used this place as a rest stop, so the interior wasn't as dusty as Minos originally expected.

Before dozing off however, he naturally had to prepare a few traps. Sharpening a few sticks, Minos planted them at the door before pasting some Shining Talisman's underneath them.

If someone accidentally stepped on one of these spikes, their blood would end up getting funnelled into the Shining Talisman, activating it. Once the light went off, Minos would be able to walk up immediately.

He laid a couple more in a few hidden areas before letting out a loud yawn. Using a piece of cloth as a makeshift pillow, Minos's eyes slowly shut, and he soon drifted off to sleep.

While Minos was sleeping contently, he had no idea that a couple of bandits had gathered near the temple he was calling home for the night.

"Boss, what's the plan?" Asked one of the skinnier bandits.

"Simple. Based on the news I got, the merchant caravan should be heading through this area. We'll stand guard at the nearby temple, and once they arrive, we'll ambush them." Said the fierce looking man

"Great idea boss!" The other bandits spoke in unison.

Just like that, the group of bandits headed towards the temple. The skinny one taking the lead in front.
