Chapter 21 - Chapter 20 Megan

The next day After a long wait, Dr Richards finally returned with Megan's test results.

"I have your test results back," Doctor Richards told Megan.

"Do the results tell you what's going on with me?" asked Megan.

"Although they don't exactly tell us what's going on, they do give us a better idea," he continued. "You have a significant and what looks to be permanent brain injury, but there is medicine that can help lessen the symptoms," Doctor Richards explained to Megan.

"However, the medication may cause some minor side effects but nothing too bad," Doctor Richards added

"What was the next test you had to do, and when were you going to do it?" Megan asked Dr Richards.

"The next test is an EEG test, which will test your brain signals and waves. You will have to wear some monitors on your head for 24 hours, and they will detect any seizures, big or small, as well as any seizure activity that doesn't lead to a seizure. Epilepsy has a specific seizure pattern that is different from other similar conditions. All of your symptoms have so far been consistent with epilepsy, and not with other conditions that have different symptoms. After the EEG test, we will know with 99% certainty if it's epilepsy or not," Dr Richards explained to Megan.

"If it's not epilepsy, what other conditions could it be?" Mrs Denver asked.

"Well, there are many possibilities, one example is functional neurological disorder (FND) but there are other conditions as well. That's why we need to do the EEG test to determine whether it's epilepsy or not. If it is epilepsy, then we will know what further tests to do. If it's not epilepsy, then we will carry out different tests," Dr Richards explained to Mrs Denver.

"When will you be doing the tests?" Megan asked.

"Later, around 5 p.m., we will come back to explain everything to you, set everything up for the tests, and then we will have a better idea of what's going on," Dr Richards informed Megan.

"Okay, thank you," Megan replied.

Dr Richards then left to prepare for the test.

"Just to let you know Olivia was wanting to visit in a few hours unless you don't want her to, then we will let her know that you're not ready for visitors just yet," Mrs Denver told Megan.

"No, it's fine. I want to see her. I have missed her and the others," Megan said, then paused. "Have Hannah or Sarah asked about visiting? I just wondered?" Megan asked.

"Sarah has said that she will visit you when you're released, as she doesn't want to overcrowd you and to also give both of you time to recover and rest as much as possible. I haven't heard anything from Hannah's parents yet, but I think she's going to wait two. It might be half-term holidays by the time you can see her and Sarah, though, as by the time you're released they will probably already have left for university . I know that it will be difficult for you to not see them, but at least they can still talk to you on the phone or message you, and don't worry, it will be half-term before you know it, and you will not be alone until then anyway as Olivia is going to have a gap year as well to give her time to heal and recover, so you will have Olivia here to meet up with and talk to," Mrs Denver told Megan.

"I can't expect Sarah and Hannah to go to university late because they were visiting me and They also need time to recover and settle in before university starts," Megan Told Mrs denver.

"Yes, and besides, next year you and Olivia will be going to university as well and everything will be back to what was planned," Mrs. Denver reassured Megan.

Megan then waited for Olivia to arrive. Part of her was worried that Olivia wouldn't show up, and that she had changed her mind about visiting. but after what felt like forever, Megan heard voices and recognised Olivia's voice. Her face lit up with joy.
