Mrs Smith answered the phone. "The signals pretty bad. so you might struggle to hear me is there any updates on anyone" Mrs Smith asked.
"Yes, and it's…..unfortunately bad news," Miss barrow told mrs smith.
"Is this about Megan as we haven't heard anything about her yet,? or has one of the others taken a turn for the worse?" Mrs Smith asked.
"Yes it's Megan I've just heard from Mary as jean contacted her and Mary thought it would be best if she told me, and then I told you about Megan to save jean from ringing all of us one by one when she should be focusing on Megan. right now they don't know exactly what's wrong with Megan they have to do some tests before they know for sure, but it's not looking good the best-case scenario is she is going to have seizures for quite a while as far as they can tell presently the seizures do seem to be permanent there could also be other problems, for example, dizziness and fainting the doctors seem to reckon it happen due to a head injury sustained from the cave accident," miss barrow told Mrs. smith.
"That's terrible, when will Mary and William know more?" Asked Mrs Smith.
"Tomorrow or the next day they will probably let us know what else they know, the doctors are doing tests on her today, but by the time the results get back and Jean and William will most likely want to talk to Megan about the issue and try to come to terms with it, so we likely won't find out until tomorrow or the next. It might only be temporary, but it's looking about quite certain, as far as I know, for the issue to be permanent" miss Barrow told Mrs. Smith.
" Hopefully, it is only temporary for Megan's sake, if it's permanent that will change and affect her whole life," Miss Barrow said.
"Yes, I know, I thought I would tell you about Megan as I know Hannah is probably asking about her and wants to know if she's ok," said Miss barrow.
"Yes she is, thank you for updating me, I'll let her know what's going on If Hannah wanted to I was going to arrange for her to see Megan when she was released if Megan was still here, but now I'll probably leave it because with all this going on Megan will likely need time to rest and relax and won't want to be crowded especially if it's permanent she will need time to come to terms with everything that has happened and her new issues," Mrs Smith told miss Barrow.
"Same here I was going to arrange for Sarah to visit, but I'll probably wait until Megan's released for them to meet up and see each other and Sarah still requires time to recover, so I think the best for everyone is for the girls to have some time to rest and recover and for Megan to come to terms with everything and for the others to come to terms with Megan's new issue as It's almost certain it will be permanent also I haven't told Sarah yet as she hasn't been awake yet since I found out for me to tell her, but I'll do it soon," miss Barrow told mrs smith.
"That's fair enough, I'll tell Hannah when she wakes up too. I take it Megan Will likely be doing a gap year with all this happening?" Asked Mrs Smith.
"Yes, her and possibly Olivia as well. Olivia's leg is broken, and it's gonna take a while to heal and Mary thinks it could be a bit too much for her to deal with so she might have a gap year as well that way she can concentrate on getting better and healing and then worry about UNI next year" miss Barrow told mrs smith.
"That's fair, but a shame as I know that they all wanted and we're excited to go to Uni together at the same time, but obviously that can't be helped with what's happened and they will probably understand" Mrs Smith said.
"I know they will be upset by the news, but we can always arrange for them all to meet up in the holidays as much as physically possible, then they get to see each other as much as they can and then next year they can all go to Uni together as planned," Miss Barrow said.
"Yes, and that will be good for them and it will be good for everything to get back to normal and back to what The girls had planned," Mrs Smith told miss Barrow.
"I've got to go I need to check on Sarah and talk to her about Megan, I want to avoid leaving her alone right now for too long with everything that she has been through, and she will be worrying about Megan which isn't good for her, so I need to talk to her about it. I feel sorry for jean and William having all this to deal with and the possibility of their whole life's changing, and even after all that they are still worried about the other girls " said Miss barrow.
"They have always been kind and caring. They also probably don't want Megan stressed out anymore than she is and no doubt she too has asked about the others and how they are," Mrs Smith told miss barrow.
" jean has told me that megan has asked quite a lot about the others and how they are, she's been pretty worried about the others" Miss barrow told mrs smith.
"that's Megan for you always worried about the others, I'll say goodbye to you now because I can see Hannah through the window starting to wake up too, and she'll want updating on Megan and everything that's happening so I'll go and speak to Hannah and I hope Sarah and Olivia stay fine, and I send my wishes to Jean and William and I hope that all goes well, and they can sort all this out and if it is permanent then I hope at least something can be done to help," Mrs Smith told Miss Barrow.
"I hope so, but if not, the girls will all be aware, and we will help them learn how to deal with it and help them come to terms with all of it," Miss Barrow said.
"Yes, of course, thank you for updating me and goodbye" Mrs Smith said.
"Of course, I'll let Jean and William know that we are all thinking of them, and we are all here for them, goodbye" said miss barrow.
Mrs smith then ended the call and went back into Hannah's room.
"Was that one of the girl's parents" mr smith asked.
"Yes, it was Diedre," Mrs Smith told Mr. smith.
"Is everything ok?" asked Sarah.
"Yes, everything's with Sarah and Olivia is ok too," Mrs Smith said.
"What about Megan is there any news on her, is she ok?" Hannah asked.
Miss Smith sat down in one of the armchairs next to Hannah's bed.
"I'm afraid not, it might only be temporary, but it could also be permanent. We don't know yet and weren't likely know for a couple of days as The doctors have to run a few more tests, but it is quite likely that is permanent according to Sarah's mum," Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"What's wrong with her?" Hannah asked.
"She's been having fits or seizures as most call them and also she may suffer from fainting. I heard it looks like all that plus possible dizziness and it could be permanent due to a confirmed head injury she got from the cave accident" Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"It's my fault she only came in because of me," Hannah told mrs smith.
"No, it's not Hannah she made her own choices, unfortunately, they ended up leading to bad things happening, but you didn't make her do anything, it was an accident and no one is to blame," Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"We are meant to start Uni next week. What is she going to do? " Hannah asked.
"She and possibly Olivia as well are taking a gap year Megan because of this new issue and Olivia because her leg is broken badly and could take months to heal properly, so it will be better for her to have a gap year. if you want us to we can arrange for you all to meet in the holidays, so then you still see each other during the holidays," Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"Megan might not want to if this is permanent. It might take her a while to accept it, so she might not want to see me" Hannah told mrs smith.
"We don't need to worry about that or any of it right now she probably will want to see you Hannah as she has already been asking about you and the others but The best thing is for all of you to wait a few days to rest and recover from what happened, and then talk to each other and then if you want to we can arrange for all of you to meet up in the holidays," Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"Your mother is right Hannah, the best thing is to give all of the girl a few days to start to get over everything, and then you can talk it out and discuss everything, and it gives Megan time to have the tests and know what's going on," Mr Smith told Hannah.
"Sarah's not going on a gap year, is he?" Hannah asked.
"Not that we know, she might go a week late at worst, but she'll be there with you for the first year and then the others will be there next year and then everything will go back to what was planned," Mrs Smith told Hannah.
"Ok, good, I would rather not be on my own" Hannah told her mother.
"I get that it's scary being away from home for the first time in your life and with everything that has happened in the last 2 days and with Megan likely having a permanent injury due to the accident it's understandable," Mrs Smith said.
Hannah ended up falling asleep not soon after.
"Did Sarah's mum tell you anything else about Megan, anything you didn't want Hannah, knowing just yet?" Asked Mr Smith.
"No, that's it, it's all she knows there will be more information in a couple of days after the testing is done and finish but by the look of it she will probably be in hospital for at least another 3 or 4 days, maybe even a week because the doctors have to do a few tests , and then they have to wait for the results and if it is epilepsy jean and William then need to learn how to help Megan and how to deal with it," Mrs Smith told mr smith.
"Its sad and a shame that she is injured like that I'm also worried about how it will affect Hannah and the others it's going to be life-changing not only for Megan and her parents but for the girls as well there will be many things Megan can longer do or do in the way she used to plus all the stress of her having a fit or fainting at any moment even if she takes some medicine for it, and it manages to control the fits a bit it will still be stressful for her and the girls plus Hannah and Sarah are not having a gap year, so they will also have A lot more work in a second to worry about and that stress combined with Megan's issue could be too much for them to cope with, and you know sensitive Olivia is she'll probably blame herself, and she might not be able to cope with the stress of the injury Megan has, and I know that might make me said like a bad person, but you know it's the truth," Mr Smith told mrs smith.
"I know we will just have to let Hannah make her own decisions and see if she can cope and handle everything if she can't and decides to spend less time and to talk to Megan less than we will support her because if it's what's best for her mental health and wellbeing then that's what matters," Mrs Smith said.
"Yes, Hannah's our priority. I still feel bad for Megan and what she's going through, but Hannah is our priority and if it's all too much for her then it might be best for Hannah and Megan to go separate ways" Mr Smith told mrs smith.
"I know what you're saying it's just a shame because they have been friends for So long and I thought nothing would ever break the friendship apart we all thought that, but now it looks like we might have been wrong and one simple accident, one simple mistake could tear them all apart and change everything," Mrs Smith told mr smith.
