Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 - Unspeakable

Devan blinked as he watched the wolf run off in the fasted way he had ever seen. He lifted his finger up to tell him to wait, but the boy had already exited the house. He walked out of the room, grabbing the book that had fallen to the floor. He gently dusted it, looking into the hall where Matheo had left.

"Maybe I was a bit quick at admitting my interest. That or I made a wrong judgment, and he is straight." He said to himself, walking slowly towards the living room before an angry little wolf appeared before him, grasping his collar to pull him down to her height.

"What the fuck did you do!?" She growled out, making Devan sigh and roll his eyes. He tightly grasped Narcia's wrist and yanked it off himself, giving her a glare.

"Listen, I will be honest with you, I don't like you. I don't plan on being nice to you either since you don't seem to want to do the same. I care about your little human mate and that wolf who just ran out. So I'm here for that, not you." Devan said as he crossed his arms. He stood pretty tall next to her. She clearly didn't like the way he spoke to her by the expression that formed on her face.

"Listen, you disgusting monster. I don't trust you at all, I bet you're just fooling Matheo into fucking stabbing us in the back. I swear to god, if you hurt either Matheo or Liam, I will destroy you." She said while standing her ground, teeth showed proudly to him.

"I don't intend to betray, little wolf." He said calmly, making her eye twitch.

"Just know, I will be on your case for anything I see wrong."

"Okay enough, Narcia. Just get your ass back here. You're about to miss the whole plot twist of the movie at this point." Liam yelled from the couch, giving a nod towards the door as he looked at Devan. This made him smile and nod back in gratitude before making his way to the door as Narcia walked over to the sofa she had sat at before. Devan walked out and took a deep breath, trying to catch the wolf's scent. It didn't take long for him to catch a wiff of him and make his way towards it.

"You run fast when embarrassed." Devan said, making Matheo flinch a bit, nearly losing his balance off the stone fence before turning his head to look at Devan.

"I'm just... It was too much for me to process." Matheo said as he looked at the river down bellow.

"It's not like I was confessing my love or anything. I was just saying that I like you, mate." Devan said, making Matheo chuckle a bit.

"Yeah, I kinda figured. I just never really get hot guys to like me." He said before Devan snorted, making him pout.

"You think I'm hot!?" Devan asked in between laughters as Matheo crossed his arms.

"Look, just because you're literally rotting from the inside doesn't mean your outside isn't attractive." Matheo said with puffy cheeks, making Devan smirk.

"So, in your eyes. What does hot entail?"

"Well, you have sexy shoulders, you're tall as hell, you have such a nice figure, your golden light brown eyes mixed with your black semi curly hair is just ugh!"

"So just my physics?"

"I thought you meant like physically, you didn't ask about how you are... I don't really know you yet anyway."

"Relax, Matheo. I was just teasing you. I did mean physically." Devan said with a few chuckles, making Matheo growl in annoyance.

"You're a real pain in the ass, you know that?" Matheo said, but Devan didn't even seem fazed by the comment.

"Don't worry about your ass, I am very gentle." Devan said before Matheo slapped his arm, making Devan raise his arms in defeat.

"So, do you know of any witches that could read this?" Devan asked as Matheo rubbed his forehead.

"There is one that I know of, though she isn't really friendly to wolves. I can't imagine her wanting to help someone like you..." Matheo said softly, making Devan sigh.

"We might as well try. We have nothing to lose." Devan said as Matheo hopped off the fence, taking the book into his hands. Their fingers brushed for a moment, making Matheo look up a bit in surprise before averting his eyes to the floor as he started walking towards Giuliana's known address. Devan simply smiled at the event, enjoying the company of the wolf.

"You're very aggressive." Liam said before Narcia gasped, pouting at him before he snorted.

"I'll remind you that this guy tried to kill you."

"I actually doubt that. I remember the way he took care of me down in his basement. He did warn me that it would be dangerous for me to go out. I'm the one who panicked and ran. You could cut him some slack." Liam said as he put his hands behind his head, stretching his legs a bit.

"Tch! If all of you trust him, who is going to realize that something is wrong."

"Maybe there isn't anything wrong Narcia, people make mistakes. Those people often try to make themselves forgiven." Liam said as he emphasized on the last part, making Narcia look down in shame. Liam was right. She was also trying to get herself forgiven for things she regretted doing.

"Whatever." She grumbled before they continued watching the movie. The movie soon ended, and both ended up getting bored with the show that was now playing. Narcia turned off the television and sighed as she pulled out her phone to look at the time.

"I have to go, since my parents are gone for the week, I need to take care of the Alpha's responsibility." Narcia said as she stood up, frowning when Liam stood as well.

"I'll come too, I want to learn more about all of this... If you don't mind." Liam said as Narcia smiled a bit. It would be his duty to help her with this in the future. Her wolf howled in happiness that their mate was going to come along.

"Alright, but don't speak too much. No one in the pack knows about you, and well... Humans aren't really around our territory. So just observe and ask me questions if you have some." Narcia said as Liam nodded, following her close behind. They walked out, and Narcia locked the front door before they made their way towards what seemed like a small neighborhood.

"Argh!" Liam groaned out as a small wolf pounced him, growling before Narcia growled loudly, the small wolf whimpering as he hopped off Liam's back with its tail between his legs.

"Sorry about that, they are kids who wanted to be brave and protect me. They mean no harm." She said as Liam sat up, looking at the grey and black little wolf that stood in front of him. The kid was almost the size of a normal one, but they usually grew 3 to 4 times bigger than that once they reach adolescence.

"He's pretty big, in my opinion." Liam said as he caught up to Narcia, dusting his chest of dirt.

"Oh, trust me, that's a small wolf. We get much bigger than that. I can show you later, if you want." Narcia said with a soft smile. Her wolf was so excited to show itself to its mate. Maybe if she did, her mate would see her beauty and accept her. Narcia shook her head to the thoughts her wolf was having and made it to a big house that seemed like some sort of barn. Inside were small kids all in a circle, some with tears and others with puffy cheeks.

"What the hell is this?" Liam said before Narcia covered his mouth, signaling him to be quiet. She walked up to the circle and started to undress, making Liam gasp and covered his eyes. The next thing he knew, there was a huge wolf now standing between the kids. Liam couldn't believe just how pretty she was. The fur looked so luscious, it had such a pretty silver shimer, and the black tips of each extremities made her all the more beautiful. He watched as she looked at them one by one, nuzzling them in a manner that seemed to indicate some sort of encouragement. One by one, the children screamed as their body contorted, bones snapping into form. Liam covered his mouth in horror as they all slowly morphed into wolves. Liam quickly ran out of the house, taking deep, fresh air breaths.

"Is that what they have to endure!?" Liam whispered to himself with a stinging sensation in his eyes, as if they were trying to tear up. It didn't take long for a wet squishy thing to boop the back of his neck. When he turned, Narcia's wolf stood behind him. She whimpered a bit, nuzzling his hand and nudging it.

"What..? You want me to pet you or something?" Liam said before he put his hand on the wolf's head, eyes widening at how soft it felt. He gently ruffled the fur, remembering the night he was saved. This was the fur he had layed on and dreamed of.

"So it was you... You saved me from Devan." Liam said, getting licked on the cheek by the wolf. Liam groaned and wiped his cheek as the wolf's tail wagged.

"It's hard to communicate when you're like this..." He said as he gently ruffled her head before she quickly morphed back into her human form, naked. Liam quickly turned in pure shock before she was fully changed, Narcia dressing herself back up before poking Liam's shoulder.

"Finally, I didn't know how to speak with you in that position. You're gigantic!"

"That was my wolf, not me. Well, sort of me, but yeah. I told you they get much bigger." Narcia said with a smile as Liam nodded in understanding.

"Why were they all suffering? Is that normal?" Liam asked in worry as he watched the kids attempt to shift again through the window. Muffled, pained screams came from the door.

"Unfortunately, yes. We only start being able to shift instantly around our 15th birthday. We have to connect with our inner wolf first, and let's just say that they don't always want to cooperate. After 15 years with them and constantly shifting every day, it eventually bonds us with our animal, and we can shift freely. Any time before that is pure suffering." Narcia said before Liam shook his head in disbelief. He was shocked just how rough these shifters had it.

"Don't worry, kids recover fast." She said as she saw Liam frown a bit.

"If we were to be mates... Would our kids have to go through that..?" Liam asked in a serious tone, catching her off guard. She saddened a bit, knowing the answer all too well.

"If they are like me. Unfortunately, yes... but if they are human, they won't have an inner wolf or shifting abilities." She said as Liam nodded, seemingly lost in his thoughts. Liam didn't like the thought of seeing his kids cry out in pain as all of their small bones break over and over again.

"The whole shifting starts after the first full moon of your puberty. So it won't be their during their childhood, you know." Narcia quickly said, hoping Liam wasn't scared out of having a family with her. She couldn't blame him for being a bit traumatized by what he had seen.

"That's good, I hate to think young children would be put through this." Liam said before a circle of small wolves came around Liam, barking and cooing.

"Aww, they want you to shift so they can play with you. Move along, little ones. He can't do that." She said as Liam gently petted one of them before they whimpered and scampered off into the woods. Liam then started following Narcia again as she made her way towards what seemed to be a library.

"Good morning, Sheila."

"Good morning, Miss Narcia. How are you?" The lady asked as Narcia started to write on a paper that was on the counter.

"It's going great, actually! That's Liam, um... He's - "

"A friend of hers. Nice to meet you." Liam cut her off, making Narcia bite her lip. She wasn't sure if she was offended that he didn't give her the chance to introduce him or if she was annoyed for being cut off.

"It is nice to meet you too, Liam. What would you like to do today, Miss?"

"I will be overtaking my parents' duty for the week, I need to have access to our documentation and sales." Narcia said as she passed over the paper she had been writing on.

"Right this way then." The lady said as Narcia followed her, signaling Liam to follow. He followed along, unsure what she would have to do.

He had no idea they would be there longer than they meant.
