Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 - Dark night of truth

It was getting late. The party had mostly died down by now. Matheo sighed as he watched Silviano's unconscious body laying there naked with two girls on the couch. He slowly walked out of the house and made his way towards the campus, head blurry with imagery of the situation he had just witnessed.

"I can't believe I sat there watching him fuck those two girls..." Matheo whispered to himself as he pushed some hair back, knowing full well how badly he had jerked off to it. He felt guilty to have pleasure himself to the sight of a man ejaculating into other women. His steps were slow and very unbalanced. He had too much to drink clearly, but at least he knew he would remember the night for a good while.

"Man... Something really is wrong with me. How is a future beta of a pack supposed to find a mate like this... What is wrong with me?" Matheo said as he rubbed his face, groaning internally at his situation. He didn't know how he was going to change himself. He never had managed to before, so he wasn't sure if he could ever do so. He looked up at the sky with sadness in his eyes as he noticed the moon's position, realizing that it had almost fully done its nightly cycle.

"Shit... what time is it!?" He said to himself, pulling out his phone only to curse as he noticed his phone had died. He didn't know how long it had been dead, but he would make sure to charge it once back at the dorm. It took him a good 30 minutes before he finally managed to make it to his dorm room, pulling out his keys and unlocking the door. He tried his best to come in as quietly as possible to make sure he wouldn't wake Liam up. However, once he made it to the table near their beds where he plugged his phone, Matheo frowned as he took a few sniffs in the air.

"Liam..?" He asked before he turned on the nightstand light, eyes widening as he noticed the bed was empty. In fact, the whole room smelled like he hadn't been present in hours. Matheo's heart started racing, his mind quickly clearing from the fog the alcohol had inflicted on him.

Matt: Narcia? Please wake up.

...

Matt: Narcia, please, for the love of god, wake your ass up.

Narcia: Do you realize what time it is..? You better have a good reason to wake me up at 4 am.

Matt: Liam is missing.

...

Narcia: Excuse me? I... I think I misheard you.

Matt: No, you heard me right. I came back to the dorm just now. His smell is faint as hell. He hasn't been here for HOURS.

Matheo could feel the distress coming from his future alpha through the link. He knew she was worried about the kidnappings, specifically because of Liam. She was afraid he'd go missing. Matheo took a deep breath before connecting to Tammy.

Matt: Tammy! Narcia needs you, please attend to our alpha. Liam is missing, I am going out to find him after I take some water to sober up.

Tam: Fuck... You were supposed to keep him safe. Any idea where he is?

Matt: I have no clue... As far as I was aware, he was supposed to stay here and watch a stupid movie. He should have gone to bed like an hour ago, so I dont know what happened.

The link closed abruptly, Matheo rolling his eyes as he made his way to the sink in the bathroom, quickly downing 2 cups of water. He quickly rushed out the door, making his way down the hall before rushing outside, running into the forest. Due to being under the influence, Matheo couldn't shift quickly. It caused him great pain and a bit of time, but he eventually managed, dashing through the woods as he tried to catch a wiff of Liam's scent.

-

Narcia was desperately trying to keep herself calm, but she was miserably failing. Her eyes teared up as she started to hyperventilate, thinking of the worse. She and Liam had finally started getting down the right path. She was finally getting closer to her goal of being forgiven and starting their relationship anew. Tammy was quick to burst into the room, both parents behind her as she rushed to her future Alpha's side, hugging her tight.

"I knew it! This is why I wanted to figure this out! I lost him now! We'll never find him again!" She cried out, her whole body trembling before her cell phone rang, making everyone freeze. She slowly picked it up, frowning as she saw the name on the caller ID.

"L-Liam...? Are you okay!?" Narcia asked in a trembling tone before she heard a loud huff.

"No. I'm not. But by your worried tone... You knew that much." He said with bitterness, making her frown.

"I just got a call from Matheo a little while ago. He said that you weren't at the dorm... I got worried you went out and got kidnapped."

"Is that what it is? I did just notice lights were turned on recently..." He asked, almost sounding like he didn't believe her despite it being the truth. She wasn't sure what he meant by lights, but that wasn't what she was worried about for now.

"You said you weren't okay, are you injured? Did something happen for you to leave the dorm?" She asked quickly, wanting to know everything that had transpired.

"I'm not hurt... I just... That thing came after me again tonight... That rotten thing... The monster you told me had just been hallucinations." Liam said angrily, causing Narcia to gasp as she put him on speaker, making everyone frown in worry.

"What are you talking about..?"

"You know damn well, Narcia! That corpse creature tried to kill me! I don't even know how I managed to run away from it! I saw its rotten face! You can't lie to me anymore! I want to know more about this.... I will be at your parents' house in about 10 minutes... Took longer than I thought to walk there, but I didn't know where else to go. You guys owe me an explanation." Liam said, making her father sigh and rub the brink of his nose as she understood now what he meant by noticing the lights had turned on.

"You're right... We will tell you everything you want to know." Narcia said before the phone closed from Liam's side, her dad taking a step forward.

"The cannibals are after you. You're aware of that, right? Liam is a human. They gain nothing out of eating normal people, this means he wanted to attract you. I have no idea how he managed to escape, but I'm certain Liam will be targeted again." Her father said before she let out a frustrated yell, standing up angrily as she started pacing.

"Why can't we just get the chance to get close? Huh!? For me to get him to forgive me, to go to university and fucking live like normal fresh adults!?" She yelled as her father sighed and passed a hand through his hair.

"I know it's hard... You kids shouldn't have to go through this. Hopefully, we can keep as much as possible from being reveiled to him, and we will send extra students to your university to keep an eye on him and you. You deserve your happiness, baby... So does he." Her father said as she sighed. She gently leaned against the window, feeling a shiver course through her. She quickly turned around, seeing her mate walk towards the front of the house. Without a second to spare, her legs sprinted down the stairs, trying to be as quick as she could before swinging the door open. She quickly embraced him in a hug, sobs escaping her immediately. And to her surprise, the anger she expected to receive never came. Instead, Liam hugged her back, gently putting his face into her neck.

"I thought I was going to die." Liam said as he held her closer. It seemed to have a calming effect on him. She gently rubbed his back before slowly pulling away to bring him inside. She shut the door behind them, making her way to the living room, where she helped Liam sit down on the couch.

"I assume you want answers from me." Her father asked as he entered the living room, making Liam's demeanor change from the soft one he had with Narcia to a now cold and angry one.

"You guys lied to me... I know you forced Narcia not to tell me shit. I know her too much to know she would have told me if it wasn't for the fact that it was probably for my safety. I have a good few questions, and I expect them to be answered." Liam said before her father sighed, Mary and Tammy came in soon after.

"I got in touch with Matheo for you. He knows Liam is here." Tammy said, making Liam sigh in annoyance.

"Alright, how about this first question. Have you known Matheo longer than you led on?" He asked, receiving a long silence before Narcia spoke up.

"Yes, Matheo is a childhood friend... Tammy has known him for just as long." She said before Liam clicked his tongue.

"So you two meeting for the first time was a lie... was our friendship fake, too?"

"No... Matheo genuinely seems to care about you. I know he hasn't faked that." Narcia said quickly, making sure to leave space for no doubt in Liam's mind. This relieved him, letting himself let out a deep breath.

"Alright... This whole school stair accident. That... That was a complete lie, wasn't it?"

"We thought it would be best to cover it up... You are not used to this kind of exposure." Her father said, causing Liam to bitter again.

"Yeah? Well, that's about to change. What the hell was that thing that attacked me before?" Liam asked before her father groaned and crossed his arms.

"I won't go into detail, but it is an old urbain legend we teach our kids when they are young... We hadn't seen any in at least a decade. It's known as a cannibal... It eats flesh... Living flesh." Her dad explained, letting Liam decide what he would interpret out of that.

"Why is that fucking thing after me... He said I met his son..." Liam said puzzled as to why an urban legend would be trying to hunt him down. This also caused a few eyebrows to raise.

"Well... Let's just say we have history with it back in the old days." The man said, making Liam think for a moment.

"Like... during the witch days?"

"Yeah!" Tammy said, Liam quickly nodding in understanding to the surprise of everyone that he would settle at that and not ask further.

"Great... So this man and son are after me by affiliation with you. Fucking perfect!" He said as he rubbed his face, feeling his nerves running low on patience. He quickly calmed down, however, when he felt Narcia gently rub his arm in a comforting manner. Unlike Giuliana, this felt quite nice.

"When you were first attacked, the cannibal seemed rather young. Perhaps that first attacker was the son, and you now met the father." Mary said, making Narcia shiver at the memory.

"For now, you four will have to come here after school. The dorms just aren't safe enough anymore." Her father said, making Liam groan as he leaned back on the couch. This whole situation was just ridiculous, but after seeing that thing, he couldn't act like none of it made sense.

"Fine... But you all can not lie to me anymore. I will not forgive it a second time." Liam said before Narcia stood up, facing him.

"Then there's one more thing I should tell you." Narcia said, taking a deep breath to try and keep herself calm.

She couldn't risk him never forgiving her.
