"I don't think this is a good idea". Adeline murmured for the umpteenth time as she watched eliana dance down the hill in her short white skirt and grey short-sleeved crop top. "Why are you even wearing that? You never wear them".
"Why shouldn't I wear something he bought? Didn't he buy them?" She turned to ask.
"No". Adeline replied, tired of explaining every single thing to her. She was happy she had no clue of the awful things Rex had done and said to her but seeing her jumping down the hill to see him broke her heart. Though she might have lost her memory, but her love for rex still stayed. She couldn't believe her love for him was getting her all excited to see him. It could have just died along with her memory.
'Money money money'. Avice sang in her heart. 'I'm going to see money'. She danced down the path happily as she thought of the amout to ask him. "When are we going to get there?" She asked adeline who looked like she was getting beheaded in the next ten minutes.
Adeline pointed at a log cabin ahead. "It's over there". She stopped walking. "And Rex didn't buy those clothes for you. Jordan did".
"Who's jorda—oh, rex's cousin". She nodded, remembering the handsome guy she clung unto when she saw the wolves.
"And I'm going to stop here. You can keep going or come with me, it's your choice. Just don't come looking sad again". She stated, waiting for Avice to reply.
"Why do you look so serious? I'm coming back right now". Avice turned and continued walking. "Why would I choose you over money?"
Pained Eliana left her, she screamed not caring if the Alpha could hear her. "We both know he's never gonna give you anyway!" She watched her waved her hand, not bothering to turn. In defeat, Adeline balled her fists and turned away.
Avice climbed up the small steps and stopped in front of the wooden door. Reciting a small prayer in her heart, she knocked.
When no one said anything, she knocked again and did that repeatedly for two minutes. "Is he deaf or not inside?" She asked herself. She was sure Adeline said he'd be in his cabin since he was not in the pack.
Avice who couldn't hold on any longer opened the door slowly. She pushed in her head first but her body froze outside the door. Her body never followed because someone was actually inside, sitting on a brown leather revolving chair and flipping away some papers on his smooth oak table.
"The hell. You were in here while i was wearing my knuckles away on your door?" She frowned, not sure he heard her again because he said nothing. He didn't even look at her.
Avice rolled her eyes, remembering he was said to be an asshole. It was none of her business though. She had nothing to do with him. He could be a jerk for all she cared. She just wanted money.
She began to draw in her body. "I'm sorr–"
"I didn't say you could come in". He interrupted her movement without sparing her a glance.
Avice's left leg paused outside the door as her mouth hung agape, not sure if to curse him for being so rude or praise him for bearing a voice that moved her stone heart.
The way her eyes flapped as they took in his black grown-undercut hair that fell on his arched brows made avice wonder if being a werewolf had anything to do with his nice side view.
"Can I come in, please". She spoke softly, immediately counting back the days she spoke to an opposite gender that way.
Rex clenched his fists on the table, disgusted by her presence. He knew she was coming. He overheard her conversation with her sister and knew why she was gracing him with her presence.
Of course nothing in the pack could fly without his permission. Doctor Simaya had reported her condition to him but he didn't believe she actually lost her memory. Tricks lived and beared in their family's veins. She could be making use of one of them. But what she was aiming at was what he was yet to figure out.
"Mr Rex or whatever sh—I used to call you, can I come in now?"
Rex stood up, regretting he didn't lock the door. "I see you're perfectly fine. You can leave".
Unaware, Avice stepped in completely and closed the door behind her. Rex's brows furrowed.
"Uhm...i didn't come here to show you I'm fine. I know you don't care". She took small brave steps forward as she scanned the room, looking past the shelves filled with books behind him. Between the the shelves was a path that led to a door. A door she assumed was a room. "It's nice in here. Is that a room or another workspace?"
Avice diverted her gaze to meet his piercing deep mint green eyes. Avice's lips peeled apart, wondering how on earth his face could come together and accentuate each other perfectly. He could beat his cousin fifteen times in beauty. It was no longer surprising someone wanted to drown herself because her love could not be reciprocated by the man...glaring at her?
The hell.
Feeling she had lost her voice, she cleared her throat and commanded her strength together. "I know you hate me and you don't want me here".
"Looks like you've been informed". He said unexpectedly. "Or maybe you didn't forget at all". He added and ignited his glare, making Avice sweat from within.
She fought the urge to fan herself. "Can you stop? You're making me uncomfortable". She told him boldly, remembering her money was snatched away with thesame intimidating stare. She'd never fall for the same stupid lies and eyes again.
"I don't have what you're here for. Leave when I'm asking you with words". He dropped his pen and walked out of his seat.
"You know what I'm here for?" She asked but he kept walking towards the path that led to the door. "Hold on. Since you know, why don't I get staright to the point". She ran and blocked his way.
Rex scowled at her careless action, grimacing at the scent that engulfed his nostrils.
"Just one minute. Give me the money and I'll disappear from your sight forever. I promis–"
His hand charged at her chest and painfully, he smashed her back against one of the shelves. His fingers crawled to her neck and he gripped it firmly. Avice winced at the pain he caused her back and the air he was now blocking with his hand.
"Jerk, let me go!" She hit his arm but it refused to budge.
"Jerk?" He asked, his eyes blistering with hostility. "I don't know what game you're playing or your fucking aim but I swear i won't spare you if it involves me this time". His grip tightened with each word.
"Wha—t are y—you saying? I ain't pl—aying gam—es with you. Fuc—king let me go". She pushed him away, feeling the impact of her strength in her almost crushed neck. Knowing he left her on his own accord and not because she pushed him, she stepped forward and without going through a secondary thought, she brought up her hand and slapped him.
He didn't even see it coming.
"Who told you you could use your fucking hand on me?" She wanted to yell but he had choked the life out of her and her throat was hurting from the pain.
Rex raging eyes slid back to her and Avice couldn't deny the red switch in his iris. His jaw was clenched and so were his fists. If her ears were still functioning properly as well, then she didn't mishear the low growl that rumbled in his throat. He was ready to pounce on her.
But to Avice, it didn't matter. He was scaring her a little bit but not to the extent of making her swallow her words. She had met alot of jerks and could take whatever attitude they gave her but laying a finger on her was out of it. One of her friends had died out of a silly love and endurance and her mother had preached about it her whole life.
"True, I came here for money knowing how much of a bastard you are but you're worse than I imagined. You could have said you don't have or don't wanna give me but what? Strangle? Are you out of your fucking mind?!" She tugged him away, feeling her temper soaring.
"Watch your mouth, young woman". He growled as his anger was reaching its peak. No one had dared reproach him that way, not even her. And it was hurting his pride deeply.
"I was but i don't intend to anymore. Someone almost died because of you but you still have a huge gut to strangle her. What a piece of garbage you are". She dashed him a disgusting look before nudging his shoulder off as she walked past him.
Avice left him fuming behind and slammed the door shut. Blowing a mouthing of air upward as she got outside, she rested her hands on her waist and walked down the steps. It was amusing how happy she felt while coming to his cabin. He thrashed it all into the pit and replaced it with a feeling that'd fade only with alcohol.
"Eliana?"
Avice looked up when she heard a name from afar. It was jordan, she recognised. And he was rushing to her.
"Jordan?" She mentioned as she walked closer to him.
"Are you okay?" He got to her and asked, his eyes fixed on her face, concernly.
Avice nodded.
He moved his face closer and placed his hand below her left ear to have a closer view of her face but a wince fell out of Avice's mouth when his hand brushed her neck.
Jordan moved his hand away from her face and the red neck he didn't notice came back to twist his stomach. Anger sprouted through him like fountain water and his gritted teeth gave away the amount of anger that was bottled up in him.
"Did he do this to you?" He asked.
Avice nodded.
With a deep intake of breath that leveled his chest, he stomped past her. "I'll kill him".
