"You're insane!"
Avice nodded, agreeing.
"For real, you shouldn't be doing this".
"So you prefer me going on knees for rex?" Avice asked, glancing back to see Adeline's reaction.
"What do you need four million dollars for anyway?"
"Something you'll call me crazy for". Avice excused herself from the new length mirror after having a satisfactory view of her outfit.
Her total debt was two million but she needed the remaining two million for herself. The value of four million in Adeline's era was overwhelming compared to her own era. People in her era basically saw four million as one million.
"What's wrong with you? Why are so obsessed with getting money when you don't even remember anything. Beside, there's no job that'll pay you that high". Adeline nagged on. She had been running her mouth nonstop since she told her her plan.
"Gosh, you're worse than my mom". Avice muttered as she walked to the door.
"What?"
"I was talking to myself". She opened the door and stepped out. "Are you going to show me the way out of here or you're staying".
"I'm not letting you go out there all by yourself to work". She remained in her position, now with her arms crossed.
"Trust me, I've lived my life handling the world. I'm gonna be fine".
"You're not and you know that. Your mate isn't just a werewolf. A vampire and an alpha. Danger is always lurking around you and the only place you'll be safe is here. Also, I don't think Rex is going to let you".
"Psh". She rolled her eyes. "First, you said I'm the strongest of all werewolves here so don't worry about the danger. Second, Rex? Are we forgetting that he doesn't give a damn about my life. Looks like to me he's going to be perfectly fine even if I die".
"But Lia, you don't have your memory. You don't know how life works". She tried to come up with an excuse to hold her back.
"I have more than enough memory for the job. Are you going to show me the way? Or you still want me to get strangled for asking Rex. I might as well die this time". She said, forcing Adeline to accept.
Avice was aware she was taking Adeline's love for granted and that Adeline only wanted her sister to be happy without Rex. Avice didn't have any sibling and the affection Adeline was pouring made her question her face in the mirror every night.
The only thing Eliana truly cared about was Rex. She tried to kill herself for an asshole when she had a loving sister and a friend. What did Rex do to her to make her that weak?
"Fine but I'm telling jordan". She dropped her arms and walked out of the room".
"Why? Don't tell him I'm leaving". Adeline tagged behind. "I don't want him to start worrying about me".
"But you love to make me worry. Wow". She replied sarcastically.
"But—"
"Shh". Adeline placed her forefinger on her lips, dragging her iris down to the people below the stairs. Adeline shook her head, indirectly telling her not to speak another word concerning what they were discussing. People might be eavesdropping on them.
"Whoa". Avice muttered and followed. She had come to realise that no one liked Eliana. They often gossip and giggle behind her back because of the crazy length she'd go just to please Rex. Yes, that dude again.
Eliana was so pathetic.
Avice rolled her eyes when the stares bagan. Their silent conversations grazed her ears as she walked towards the door and she wondered why Eliana never instilled a little fear in them. She was their alpha's mate for goodness sake. The words were too heavy for her.
"This is so sick". Avice spat and increased her pace when she got outside. "How do you put up with the insults?"
"Why are you asking me that? You were the one who forced me to get used to it instead of retaliating". She answered like it was no big deal.
"What? Eliana did? Why?"
Adeline stopped and turned. "Yes, Eliana did. You did. You didn't want to do anything to them because of—"
"Rex". Avice completed. "That motherfucker again". She added bitterly. How could someone have so much control over someone else. "So she thought Rex is gonna hate her more if she did something to them. That's insane". Avice shook her head, getting irritated.
Adeline continued her steps. "Why are you using 'she' like you weren't the one? Because you can't remember anything doesn't mean you're not her. You're still thesame".
"No, I'm different. I'll never stoop so low for a flying red flag".
"Deny all you want". Adeline sighed out. "Do really want to do this?"
"What? The–the job? Of course. I'm gonna try my best to find atleast five".
"Five?"
"Yeah. That'd be faster. Just gonna keep switching".
Adeline sighed again. "You know you can't keep working outside the pack. You have some responsibilities here as well".
"I'm not going to get killed for not doing them, am I?" She said, sounding more like a statement rather than a question. As long as she wasn't getting killed, nothing was stopping her from working. Not even Rex.
She didn't know how she was going to gather four million in a month. Yes, in a month. With the murder attempt that plagued her life daily, she wasn't staying longer than a month. But she hoped on a miracle. A miracle that would take off at the sight of her messed up fate.
"Are you—" he paused when he saw Avice standing behind Adeline. "—heading somewhere?" A broad silver haired man walked up to them and asked.
Obviously.
Avice stepped forward. "Do you perhaps know any vacan—"
"Yes. We're heading somewhere". Adeline cut her off, pulling a tight fake smile at the man who looked rather inquisitive than concerned.
Adeline grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the man who turned to watch them dissappear into the woods with eyebrows connecting curiously.
"Why did you do that?" Avice asked as they walked on the tiny path surrounded by grasses and tall trees.
"You can't trust anyone in this pack. Everyone is on Rex's side". She simply said and Avice grimaced at the name again. He was a practical god at this point.
"So how long is it going to take to get to the city?" Avice asked when she saw nothing but branches up ahead. Not a single roof was in sight.
"Buckle up, it's going to be a long walk". She sighed out.
"What? How far?"
"Seventy minutes walk if we keep up this pace". She replied, so relaxed and unbothered.
"The hell. I can't run. Why is it so far? Don't you have a car or something?" She rushed out her complaints
Adeline stopped and spun around. "Did you really lose your basic senses as well? You should know it's far because we don't want to be discovered by humans". She said in a frustrated manner and huffed. She added as she continued to walk. "Rex has a car and a motorbike but he never let anyone touch them. Especially the bike".
"Really, I've never seen them anywhere before". Replied someone who never really walked around because some random wolves might pop out of nowhere and jump on her 'playfully'.
"He parked them in the garage behind the pack warehouse. He loves his bike so much, he sliced a man's stomach when he scratched it four months ago".
"Sliced like, cut?" Avice's eyes were almost falling off, demonstrating with her hand on her stomach even if Adeline was in front of her and couldn't see her.
Adeline nodded. "The scratch was very bad and he watched him bleed first before treating him. He payed for his medical bills though". She shrugged. "He's obsessed with it".
"Whoa, that's a fucked up bloody piece of shit". Avice combined the curse words in her head as she wondered, her lips refusing to meet eachother. She had only heard of scums like Rex, she never knew they existed or imagined she'd meet one.
Was Eliana sane at all? How on earth did she—gosh!

".....monthly evaluation didn't pay off for them. They were screwed at the end. I don't want us to end up that way". Rex went on explaining how he wanted to strategize the expansion of the pack.
"Shouldn't we ask for some help?" His beta, Scarlon who sat across him, suggested.
Rex shook his head. "They always want something in return and I'm not ready to surrender to their mischievous way of achieving things". He replied, his pride in full control.
Scarlon and everyone around Rex knew how high he placed himself. He always let his pride decide for him and never let anyone through his walls. He'd eliminate anyone close to bringing down his walls and he had never shown any weakness or remorse. He knew he was scared of nothing since he had been with him several times on the battleground.
He was always vicious.
After minutes of discussing, they came to a rough conclusion that met Rex's satisfaction a little bit. He was not totally satisfied with the idea but he was going to hold onto it till he found a better one.
As Scarlon was about to say his goodbyes, a voice of a pack member he was a bit familiar with slipped into his head and said;
'I can't through to the Alpha. I just saw his mate and Adeline walking out of the pack'.
Scarlon looked Rex and asked, "did you block yourself out?"
"We were in the middle of something. Didn't want to be disturbed. What is it?" He replied.
"Uh...well, Eliana and her sister were seen walking out of the pack".
Rex's hands froze and an interest sparked in his chest. "For what?"
'For what?' Scarlon asked.
'They didn't say. But they looked suspicious'.
"They didn't say. But they looked suspicious". Scarlon repeated what he had been told and watched Rex's face grow into deep wonders.
Suspicious? What were they going to do out there? Just when the thought of her pretending had began to fade, they gave him a new reason to suspect them. Who were they going to meet?
"Should I have someone follow them?" Scarlon suggested out of the blue.
Rex twirled the pen in his hand as he stared into space, thoughts of her crawling up his skin. Her attitude these days were unexpected and questionable. Lately while he had been trying to put himself in her shoes to figure out what she was up to, he'd find himself zoning out on her thought. If he had a choice, he'd rather not use the words 'thinking about her' to describe his action. But as much as he hated to admit it, he was, and he wondered why.
He turned back to Scarlon and shook his head. "No. I'll do it myself".
