Immediately after I closed the door, my mother burst through my door, shouting at me. She told me to hurry up and get ready to start my open house for the new school. All I said was, "Yes, Ma'am." She exited my room, not even concerned if I was OK.
I walked over to my wardrobe and pulled out an outfit. My father entered the room and said, "Kalon. What happened to you last night?" I remained quiet and picked up my shoes. He closed the door and sat on the foot of my bed. "Kalon. I'm not the best father, I know. But I'm not your mother. Talk to me," He said.
I sighed and dropped my shoes to the ground. I cleared my throat and said, "At the event. I went to the balcony to catch a breath and was hit by a spell." He interrupted me and asked, "Why were you on the balcony alone?"
"No one likes me. That's why," I uttered. He paced across my room and said, "Kalon, know this. Never let anyone stop you from walking your path. That's how I made it this far."
All I could say was, "OK." He noticed the knife sitting on my desk. He picked it up and asked me why I had it. I told him about how I was jinxed. He asked me how I fixed it. I explained that I called Grandmother, and she cast the spell into a knife and told me to keep it close. He read the runes and said, "She put it into a knife." He chuckled and asked, "Did she tell you not to stab yourself?"
I nodded and grabbed it from him. He finished talking to me and left my room. But before he left, he told me to watch myself. "Yes. Sir," I said. When he left, I got dressed and went to find my mother.
In the living room, I found Neil with our mother. "Oh. You're ready," She said condescendingly. "I didn't realize you cared," I replied. "Watch your tone, Kalon," Neil said.
"Piss off, Neil. You don't even know what we're talking about," I said.
He rolled his eyes and said, "You never learn Kalon." My mother finished tying his tie and said, "OK, kids. Let us try to show up on time."
My father entered the room and said, "Honey. You're taking Neil to the internship meeting, and I'll take the kids to the open house." She acknowledged him and left with Neil. My father used his wand and turned our front door into an entrance to the school of magic. We appeared approximately a hundred feet from the entrance gates.
A small man approached us and said, "Hello, Williams family. Welcome to Vendettas School Of Magic. Let us begin this tour." He handed us a map and told us to follow him.
He walked us through the main gates and took us inside the school. The outside was plainly caused by magic. Nature was so alive and interacted with many people. The small man noticed us admiring the land and gave us a story behind it.
He said that long before he found the dwarfs, Lycidas Vendetta came to this land and used a powerful spell that enchanted this realm. He added that Mr. Vendetta built the school using only his magic.
"Well, enough stories. Let's finish this tour, eh?" He asked us. We followed him as he walked through the hall, showing us the classrooms and libraries within the school. Next, he showed us the mess hall and all of the corridors.
We eventually made it to the back balcony and saw the woods. He warned us and said that the enchanted forest is not off limits but is both dangerous and enlightening. He added that animals and creatures are found the further you go in.
Finally, he guided us to the office floor.
"Well, just in case you weren't following, the school's mascot is the hydra," The dwarf mentioned.
"Why a hydra?" My father asked. The dwarf said that the first creature Mr. Vendetta had tamed was a hydra. So he just made it that way." My father was impressed with Mr. Vendetta's abilities so far.
The dwarf handed my father a folder of enchanted paper and said, "To see the information on this paper, you must use magic and say, Jojau."
My father asked, "What's this for?"
The dwarf replied, "The information regarding your kid's status and how to properly inaugurate them into this school."
My father acknowledged him. The dwarf snapped his fingers and disappeared. But before he vanished, he said, "Welcome to Vendettas School Of Magic."
My father looked through the folder and told us we were returning home. Then, he cast a spell and opened a doorway to our living room. Everyone walked through, and when I walked through, I could hear my name being whispered in my ear.
I turned back, and the entire area was corrupted. The trees were dead, and the school was broken. Overall, the surrounding area was terrifying. From the ground, I could see my other self at the entrance. He was smiling dreadfully.
My father called my name, so I looked back, and everything was back to normal. "Kalon. Let's go," My father said. I looked at the school as I walked through the portal to my living room.
The door closed, and my father said, "Alright, twins, run along." The twins left the room, and my father asked me what was wrong. I didn't want to break the mood, so I lied. I told him I thought I saw something.
He clearly knew something was wrong and insisted that something was wrong. But then, he crossed his arms and asked what I saw. I told him I didn't know what I saw. He sighed and said, "Then I guess it's nothing." Then, my father left the room to see if my mother was home.
I sat on the couch and laid back. I had to process what I just saw. I thought we had dealt with this. I thought my Grandmother had stopped this. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the knife. To my shock, it was broken into two pieces.
My stomach fell to the floor. I dropped the knife and rushed to the house phone. I dialed my Grandmother's number. The line was ringing for some time. Then, finally, the other end picked up, and I said, "Grandmother, the knife was broken. I don't know how or what it did."
All I could hear on the other end was heavy breathing, followed by a distorted voice saying, "You're too late. You cannot stop what's coming." Then, finally, the line went dead, and the phone burnt up. I dropped it and used a water spell to put the flame out.
I backed up gradually, and my back was against something. I turned around, and my brother Neil was standing above me.
