As I lay in bed, I thought about what my grandmother said. This was madness. Why does everything happen to me? The room's temperature slightly shifted. I grabbed my wand and used a spell to raise the temperature.
"Stupid technology," I said aloud.
While I was turning over, my wand slipped out of my hand onto the floor. "Damnit," I thought. It rolled over to my dresser across the room. The sigh I let out could be heard across the country.
I walked over and tried to grab it. Once my hand got near it, the wand rolled completely under the dresser. "Mtch. Damn wand," I said. I got on my stomach and began looking for my wand. The wand was in sight, so I reached out, and something sliced my arm.
Pulling my arm from under the dresser, I hopped to my feet and backed away. My wand was thrown at me. The feeling in my room makes me sick to my stomach.
Knocking sounded from downstairs. Moments later, my grandmother called all of us in our family room.
"And you didn't feel the need to tell me my son was jinxed?" My mother asked. My grandmother then said, "Well, I figured that you wouldn't even care. You're too busy bothered with only one child."
"What is that supposed to mean?" My mother asked.
My father then asked, "Is that what's been going on with you, Kalon?"
Both my parents looked at me, and all I could do was look down in disappointment.
"This jinx wasn't caused by regular magic," My grandmother said. My father asked her what she meant.
"What caused it, mom?" My mother asked.
"The person who struck Kalon jinxed him through means of black magic," My grandmother replied.
Then, she explained that she thought she had sealed it inside of a knife. My older brother asked me where I put the knife. "I left it in my room," I said. My grandmother asked me to bring it to the living room.
While I did that, I also brought the arm of my other self. I placed both items on the coffee table.
"Where did the arm come from?" My grandmother asked.
I told them of what happened last night, and their reaction was nothing less than what I'd assumed it would be. While my parents bickered at me, my grandmother seemed to be studying both the arm and knife.
"Revlar," My grandmother said as she waved her wand. From both objects, an aura surrounded them both. My grandmother used a spell to destroy both of them.
"Kalon, you're dealing with an advanced user," My grandmother said before briefly explaining how we can suppress this. Primarily, there is a spell that can fortify the mind. However, the spell is only as powerful as the will of the person put under the spell.
Immediately after the spell was cast, my head felt as light as a feather. The only thing I recall was being put back into my room and waking up the following day.
That spell made me feel like I was worry-free. I still feel the weightlessness, but it isn't as effective as it was last night.
During breakfast, the table was silent, but you could feel the tension. There was the occasional glare and side-eye. My mother broke the tension by telling us that we should pack our essentials for our first day at school tomorrow.
My father added to that by saying that he put the list that he had received from the open house in our rooms.
Niel excused himself and left the dining room. Following that, the twins finished their food, and it was just me and my parents.
An awkward feeling brushed over me, so I wrapped things up and went to pack.
While I packed, I looked over the list, and it included six outfits, two pairs of shoes, our wands, five notebooks., and plenty of school-related items. One thing that sparked my curiosity was the six outfits. To my knowledge, this was a uniform school. So, bringing that had me thinking.
There was a knock on my door, and following that was my grandmother walking in.
"Grandma. What brings you here?" I asked her, to which she replied, "Just making sure you're all right, Kalon." I rushed into her arms and let out a whimper, "What's wrong with me, Grandma?" She brushed her hand through my hair and said, "I'd be lying if I told you I knew."
She also added, "Kalon, you'll be alright. You're stronger than light. You will overcome this."
My grandmother turned her head to my door and whispered, "I think someone wishes to speak to you." I opened my door, and no one was there.
"Maybe not," My grandmother concluded.
Hours later, I was just about to hop in bed, but my father came in to check in on me. "Kalon, I know for the past few years, your mother and I seem to have been ignoring you," My father said. I walked towards my mirror and said, "I don't know what you mean, father."
My father walked into my room and said, "Kalon, how come you didn't tell us what was going on." After letting out a sigh, I told him that I thought that I could handle it on my own. Of course, he was suspicious. My father wasn't the one to be fooled so easily.
"Well... Just know that I'm here if you need me," He said as he exited my room. I wiped my tears away and prepared myself for tomorrow.
