Chapter 16 - The Night Isn’t Dead Yet

At the entrance of Caromine Institute, Dam Son continued to chase after Cinder Burn's fleeing figure. They ventured past a few campus guards along the way.

"Hey, wait up! We should go back together! Why are you ignoring me? Are you still being a sore loser because of what happened at the admission matches?"

"Sore Loser?" Finally, Cinder Burn halted her quick steps then glanced back at Dam Son furiously. "If I wasn't so tired and doggone famished I would have had our rematch right here. Count yourself lucky, Dark-Human." Cinder Burn dashed off again.

"Hey!" Dam Son gave chase to her emerald posterior. "I don't want to fight against you! Can't we just be friends?"

"Stop following me." Cinder Burn responded coldly while speeding up.

"Why are you being so cold? Is there no one at this academy aside from teacher Enjoy who is friendly?"

"If you want to be somebody's friend so badly then go seek elsewhere. You're not my type to mix with."

"Do you dislike me because I'm a Dark-Human, is that it, or is there some other reason?"

"I said stop following me." Though she had a pair of properly functioning wings on her back, Cinder Burn had her Papyrus tossed out a flying scripture then hopped onto it. She thought that if she flew away using aerial transport, Dam Son wouldn't be able to catch up, but she was mistaken.

"Hey, Cinder Girl! Don't be like that. Let's be friends!"

"Huh?" Cinder Burn was startled when she glanced behind her and witnessed Dam Son flying on his sapphire suitcase. "Where did that retard acquire an augmented item that can fly? He's so damn persistent. Do I have to get violent for him to leave me alone?" While Cinder Burn was pondering about which method to best use to tidy up Dam Son, she failed to realize the incoming projectile shooting straight at her.

"There is something ahead!" Perceiving that Cinder Burn was in grave danger, Dam Son commanded his sapphire suitcase to increase its aerial velocity. He rushed forth with impetus haste; arriving just in time to rescue Cinder Burn from the shooting projectile.

'Boom!' The unknown projectile crashed into the empty street below.

"What was that?" Dam Son wandered as he held Cinder Burn in his tight embrace.

"Get off me, you lewd pervert!" Cinder Burn gave Dam Son a brutal push which coincidentally dropped him nearby the fallen projectile. "Don't come near me ever again! You got that?" Finish brushing off Dam Son's filthy scent from her posh apparel, Cinder Burn sped off in the distance without glancing back.

"Hey, is this how you repay me for saving you from crashing into this… into this… thing?" Dam Son stared at the crash site of the unknown projectile. "What is it by the way?" He crawled over to where the unknown object was. Thinking that it was a person, he called out to it. "Hey, are you okay over there?"

Dam Son saw it trembled. "I think it just moved."

"Did it?" Papyrus went ahead to check on the dark embodiment folded on the ground. "I don't think this thing is a person."

"But it moved just now. Let me see." Letting his curiosity get the best of him, Dam Son reached out an arm towards the unknown object. As Dam Son grasped the dark covering which concealed the unknown, both he along with his Papyrus witnessed it rising abruptly before blasting off again. The air pressure it generated caused Dam Son to fall flat on his bottom. He couldn't even make out the unknown's composite.

"Ahf, it's gone! I didn't get a good look at it, but it seemed to be a person, right?"

Papyrus observed the unknown vanishing into the distant shade. "Strange, I didn't see any form of legs nor arms for that matter."

"Vocabular is filled with lots of strange stuff. Soon I will explore them all. Come on Papyrus. Let's go back to the Tower of Residence."

"Wait, there is something here." Papyrus highlighted a dark coin sitting idle in the small crater that formed from the unknown's crash-landing. "That thing must have accidentally dropped it."

"Hm?" Dam Son inspected the crater for other dropped objects then picked up the dark coin. "What is this flat cylindrical thing?" Dam Son bit down on the mysterious dark coin to test its quality.

'Clang! Clang!'

"It is solid as a rock."

Papyrus came along; quickly slapped the coin out of Dam Son's mouth. "You nincompoop! You have no idea what that thing is yet you're putting it inside your mouth? Are you insane?" Papyrus continued to scold Dam Son for an extended minute.

"Alright, alright, I got it. I won't put any strange items into my mouth again. By the way, what do you think this thing is, Papyrus?" Dam Son showed the dark coin to his Guide.

"It is shaped like a coin, but I've never seen this design before. I have no clue what it is nor what it is for."

"Is that so? I'll keep holding onto it for now. Remind me to come by here tomorrow just in case that person returns." Dam Son tossed the coin into his packet then flew off in the direction of his residence.

Shortly after Dam Son left the area, 2 mysterious Word Masters garbed in dark apparel appeared on the street where the unknown object had crashed prior. "It was here not too long ago. We have to find it or else both of us might be in big trouble with the boss."

"I should have followed my intuition instead of listening to you. If I did, we wouldn't have found ourselves into this mess."

"Stop complaining and used your coin ability to determine where it fled too."

"Stop ordering me around." This person held out his hand over the crater. A blue coin was dancing in the centre of his palm. Curtly, the dancing coin transformed into a streaking blue mist that followed the direction in which the unknown object had fled. "It went that way."

"That direction is where the exit checkpoints are. Let's catch up to it before it escapes Raixom Academy." The 2 Word Masters gave chase to the fleeing unknown object. This specific night marked the inception of a drastic turning point in Dam Son's easy-going life.
