Peering through the irregular golden sheet with his Wisdom Stone, Dam Son entered a trance where he found himself watching through the eye of an inexplicable entity.
The environment was less developed than in modern times in Vocabular. The geography was roughly polished with decaying vegetation. Buildings were flattened and the ground was upheaved. It was as if a storm of destruction had run rampant in that area. Various species of humans were travelling upward a narrow pathway that led to the only sturdy sanctuary left standing in that desolate expanse.
By how roughly the people were coughing, Dam Son surmised that the air was highly toxic. His analysis was indeed correct. After the violent storm of destruction had traversed that annal of history, it left behind corrosive pollution tousled in the atmosphere, making it harder for the remaining citizens to breathe.
"Where are we going?" Dam Son felt like it was him inside the ancient scenery, the only thing was that he had no control of the ongoing proceedings. Papyrus was by his side as well, watching everything that occurred.
"This seems like an era that hasn't developed advanced Guide mechanics yet. Look at all those people carrying glowing long scrolls on their backs."
"Hmm." Dam Son continued to observe the scenery through the eye of an unknown entity. What he was actually viewing was a fragmented past of Blue Almighty's.
'Flash!'
All of a sudden, they fast-forwarded to the entrance of the last standing sanctuary. A renowned figure was there tending to the individuals passing through the gate. As he drew closer, Dam Son saw an alluring Demi-Human in tattered garments waving to him.
"Damasus, you came back in one piece?"
"Not entirely. I busted my left arm to rescue the remaining folks at the nadir." Dam Son witnessed a muscular arm enter his field of view with pronounced bruises all over. "We almost didn't get through their barricade."
"Well, I'm glad you're back. Come with me. I'll personally have your arm looked after." The female Demi-Human gestured invitingly.
"What about your post, Inkling? Aren't you the one in charge of guarding the entrance?"
"I'll have my subordinate man the gate while I'm away. Now come along, Damasus. That wound looks really nasty. By the way, our leader told me to tell you that he wanted a meet when you came back."
"Alright, I'll head over there apace."
"What about your injuries?" The young maiden was worried about her ally.
"I'll have them looked at afterwards."
A sudden transition occurred, Dam Son was now viewing the hall of an imposing figure whilst prostrated on his knees. An old man that had a long flowing beard as white as snow was standing in front of Dam Son. He flashed his beard mightily then spoke. His voice was overbearing for the weakened heart to listen.
"Damasus Sonnet, you may rise to your feet. I can't have my most promising disciple kowtowing when there is a brewing war at our gates.
"Yes, Grandmaster Sou. Why did you request to see me?"
The imposing elder flashed his beard once more. "Something came up that I need to take care of personally. I'm thinking of leaving you in charge of this central sanctuary."
"Leave me in charge? Please re-consider Grandmaster. I'm not worthy of such a glorified position. Pythios or even Inkling is more suited for such a grand promotion."
"I have already made up my mind, Damasus. You might not be as strong as the others in terms of strength, but you have a kind heart and great leading aptitude. All those people outside have made it here in one piece due to your arduous efforts and sacrifices. They look up to you more than they do to me. This matter isn't up for debate. As it stands, the central sanctuary is on the verge of collapsing with our enemies constantly creeping at our doorsteps. I've received an urgent conscript to aid the main forces heading west of Vocabular."
"Why there, Grandmaster?"
"As you've suspected, the Mother of Grammar has been sighted in that region. It has yet to be fully awakened. Before it does, myself and others will make haste to seal away her existence. I'm leaving you to protect the refugees in my stead. Here is the scroll of approval."
He accepted it. "I will not fail you, Grandmaster!" Damasus Sonnet said resolutely.
"Good, that's the spirit I was hoping to see." The elder patted his trusted disciple's head. "Before I head out let me take care of those injuries for you. You need to be in top condition if you intend to stand a chance against the dark forces of the Hellphabet."
Damasus Sonnet clasped his hand and said respectfully: "Please instruct me one last time, Grandmaster."
"As you wish." The elder held out his left hand over Damasus Sonnet's head. There was a glowing sigil present in his palm. Indecipherable letters shot out of the elder's palm and oscillated Damasus Sonnet. His injured complex rejuvenated rapidly. "How are you feeling now?"
"Let me see…" Damasus Sonnet glanced at an imposing statue at the other end of the hall. (30-metres away) From where he was standing, he executed a precise spinning kick technique that smashed apart the large statue entirely. "Smashing Blue Mantis!"
'Boom!'
"Wow! I'm feeling much better than before. It feels as if I've broken through the bottleneck of my Natural Verb Force's capacity."
"Indeed you did my disciple." The elder congratulated Damasus Sonnet on his cultivation breakthrough. "This is my last gift to you."
"Grandmaster, why do you sound as if I won't be seeing you ever again?" Damasus Sonnet was concerned for his master's wellbeing.
The elder offered some reassuring words to his disciple. "Worry not my boy. I will return as soon as I clean up the mess brewing in the west."
'Crackle!'
The fragmented scenery Dam Son was viewing ended abruptly. His Wisdom Stone deactivated, furthermore, the golden sheet vanished between Papyrus's pages. Dam Son felt an overwhelming sensation of euphoria coupled with a strong sense of déjà vu. He was somewhat conflicted within that short expanse of realization. Hence he looked at Papyrus for answers.
"Papyrus, what do you think that vision was that we just witnessed?"
"I don't believe it was any form of premonition, more like a past event. If I guess correctly, I think it may be related to your lost memories."
"My lost memories?" Dam Son stared at Papyrus with a puzzled gaze.
"Yes, your lost memories. Think about it. You were recently tossed into Vocabular without a lick of its foundation, yet you can adapt so well to your surroundings. Moreover, your understanding of Word Mastery excels above others who have been studying for their entire life. How else can you explain your bizarre existence? One moment you are a Dark-Human, the other moment you are a blunt sword. Don't you find this really strange? I do. I received this golden sheet right after that stone on your forehead sucked me in. I'm 85% certain that ancient scenery is relatable to your memories somehow."
"Do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds, Papyrus? Look at how young I am, do I look like some ancient grandpa to you?"
"I know it sounds abnormal, but you'll see for yourself in the future."
"How can you be so sure?"
"My intuition is telling me that we will be seeing more of those golden pages the further you progress in your Word Mastery."
"Only time will tell then. Wait, what time is it now?" Dam Son just realized that the day had come out fully. He rushed out of the bath, getting ready to go to classes.
