Chapter 1 - The garden

I was out in the flower garden with my big, light yellow summer dress on. I go there sometimes when I need some time alone to breathe and get away from everything happening inside the castle. William is stressed as usual and I just needed to get away from his daily bugging. I get that it's his job to make sure I do all things I am supposed to do and all that but it can be too much sometimes. So this is how I cope.

The birds on the tall tree behind me were singing beautifully and I couldn't help but start humming along. It was so calming to just relax and feel the wind blow through my silky dirty-blond hair. I closed my honey-brown eyes and lay down on the soft grass.

I picked up a flower that was right next to my arm. I take a long sniff at it. It smelled amazing, I should get some to put in my room as decoration. It will make my bedroom feel more alive.

If I could only share all this with someone.

I just wish that I wasn't so lonely all the time. I am not allowed to leave the castle so there isn't a way to make friends. Except for my servants of course, but it's their job to be my friends. Father hired them so I wouldn't feel as lonely and would quit complaining about not being able to explore the world but it didn't help. It's different when you know they only are your friends because of the money my parents give them. If I wasn't a princess my life would be a thousand times better. All my problems would be solved instantly. If someone offered to take me away from this prison I happened to call home so I could live a normal life and travel around the world, I would accept it within a heartbeat.

It would be amazing to finally be free and be able to travel the world like one of my bird friends up there.

One of the birds flew towards me and landed on the finger I was holding up.

"You are living the life, aren't you little one?" I asked as if he could hear me. As expected the little bird didn't respond, he just tilted his head to the side almost looking confused. I let out a small laugh.

"what was I expecting?" I whisper to myself, my smile slowly fading and with a bit of disappointment appearing in my voice. I take a deep breath and look up at the baby-blue sky.

"It's just so unfair, why can't I live a normal life like everyone else my age? Why do I have to be stuck in this boring castle doing boring princess stuff!" I burst out. I look back at the bird again and he is still looking at me with the same expression as earlier. Even though I knew the bird couldn't talk, there was still something in me that was disappointed he didn't say anything back.

"please just answer me. Please?.." I looked at the bird with pleading eyes but still, nothing. Just that same expression on his face.

*sigh

"Princess Elvira!?" the loud noise scared away the little bird. I sat up and turned around angrily to see where the feminine voice was coming from. It was Natalia, one of the many maids working at the castle. Natalia is one of my favorite maids out of all because she acts kind of like a real friend. She is funny and I never get bored when I'm with her. The only thing that annoys me about her is that she insists on calling me, "Princess Elvira" or "your highness".

"A, Princess Elvira! There you are. Everyone has been looking for you." I glanced at her, I could tell she was stressed. But why? I don't think I have something that important to do today. Unless tasting some of the kingdom's best cakes to see what flavor tastes better, nothing.

"Natalia, what did I tell you about saying Princess?" she first gave me a look of confusion for a couple of seconds until she seemed to remember.

"I'm sorry your Highness," she says will bowing down. I roll my eyes at her.

"So why is everyone looking for me? Did I miss anything important in my schedule?" I ask curiously about something interesting happening in the castle for once.

"yeah, right! That!" I looked at her waiting for her to say something.

"Well, the king wanted to talk to you about something important." I thought for a second before I spoke.

"about what exactly?"

"he didn't tell us that your highness, my deepest apology," she said. I sighed.

"well thanks for telling me"

"no problem your highness." she then simply walked away.

"I wonder what my father wanted to talk about," I mumbled quietly to myself.

you may be thinking that it's weird I get so worked up about this but my father NEVER talks to me unless it's really important. He never really has time for me. It might sound kind of sad but I can't blame him. I mean, he is the king after all. He has more important things to do.

"Well, I guess I'll find out soon enough." I stood up from the ground and stretched because my back is really stiff. I straightened my posture, waved goodbye to my bird friends, and walk into the castle. As I walk through the corridors I can't help but notice that it's empty. Father must have sent all the servants and maids to their small rooms on the second floor or something. Now I know this is important. He always does this when he doesn't want anyone to hear what we are talking about.

At this point, I started to get a little bit freaked out. I didn't show it on the outside but I was panicking on the inside.

And then I was there. Standing in front of the enormous metal to my father's office. I knock three times and hear a deep voice say 'Come in' which sends a shiver down my spine. I take a deep breath to calm myself before I take a firm grip on the black, metal handle and swing the door open.
