Chapter 4 - The breakfast

Breakfast was awkward. The silence only got thicker and thicker and nobody dared to break it. I think we all were scared that someone was going to start a fight and neither of us wanted that.

So we kept quiet.

It wasn't all that bad. I mean, I did get my pancakes in the end, and let me say that they were delicious! The cook is amazing! I wonder what she had in them? What do you even have in a pancake? If I'm not wrong I believe that it is supposed to be flour, eggs, and maybe milk as well... Oh! And also some sal-

"So Elvira. How are you feeling today?" my mother startles me a bit. It took me a few seconds to process what she was asking me. But I eventually snapped out of my trance.

"Uhm, yeah, I'm feeling alright I guess," I said looking down at my almost empty plate. My father reacted to my response immediately.

"Elvira, don't be rude toward your mother, and make eye contact when you speak. This is not a way for a princess to behave" he said staring me down but I still didn't look at him.

He started going on and on about how a princess should behave and that I have not acted like I am supposed to. He said that I was disrespectful and that I didn't appreciate the things they have done for me since I was a little kid.

"if you two were good parents you'd accept my wishes of not getting married..." I mumbled to myself, but of course, he had to hear me.

"would you like to repeat that a little louder, Elvira?" said my father, now just trying to put me in my place and show 'dominance' or whatever.

"no, your highness," I said still not looking him in the eyes, because I knew if I do I will be met with the smug look that he makes when he has "accomplished" something.

"no, Elvira. I think we all want to hear what you were saying." he was now stepping on my nerves. I knew he had a huge smirk on his face even though I didn't look at him.

"Philip, don't." my mother tried to stop him from making a scene but it was too late.

"No Kristin. Let us hear what Elvira has to say," he said now getting a little aggressive, and I snapped.

"Because you want to know so badly. I said, if you two were good parents you'd accept my wishes of not getting married!" I was now standing up staring aggressively into the king's eyes. All I could feel was hate. My blood was boiling and I could feel tears form in my eyes but I wouldn't allow them to fall, I wouldn't allow myself to show weakness.

"Elvira, please try to calm down." said my mother in her usual caring tone in an attempt to get me to sit down again, but I wasn't having it.

She walked closer to me and tried to hold my hand but I slapped it away, hard. Kristin was left shocked at my strong reaction.

"Young lady. This is not how we raised you!" The king snapped back.

"That's the thing! You didn't raise me at all! You just paid William and the other servants to do it for you!"

"That's it, go to your room," he said angrily with nothing but disappointment in his eyes.

"Gladly."

I turned my heel and ran out of there. I felt the stairs at me while I ran through the corridors. They probably heard our fight and felt bad for me. They knew I was holding back tears.

As soon as I got up to my room, I slammed the door shut and locked it. I then fell to the floor and let everything break loose.

Why me? Why did I get this life? Why am I the one who has to be perfect 24/7?!

"I hate my life! I hate it! I hate it! I hate-"

I froze. The window was wide open again. Maybe it was one of the servants. Yeah, it probably was, it has to be.

With quivering legs, I slowly walked up to the window and once more today pushed it shut. I glanced at the desk and my blood ran cold.

"the letter..."

I picked it up and examined it carefully from head to toe. But I was wrong. It wasn't the letter I wrote, it was a different one. The paper looked cheaper and the handwriting wasn't even close to mine. So whose letter was it?

--------------THE--LETTER--------------------

God day Princess Elvira.

I have read your letter and I must say that your father doesn't sound as nice as everyone says. I'm sorry that you have to get married against your will.

But what would you say if I told you that I might have a solution to your problem?

Meet me in the garden tomorrow at midnight if you are interested. I do get that you don't know me and if you don't want to come, it's understandable.

But I will still be counting on you being there tomorrow.

Best regards: Apollo.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Apollo huh..."

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't the slightest curious but it would be stupid of me to go meet up with some random dude I don't know. For all I know, he might be out to kidnap or kill me.

But for some reason, I still really want to go. I mean, we will still be on the property and we have a lot of guards placed all around everywhere. So everyone in the castle would hear me if I screamed for help.

I don't know... I'll have time to decide before tomorrow night.

But I still have a couple of questions.

Like why does this person want to help me so badly and who is he? I know that his name is Apollo and all but that is all I know. And most important out of all of them

How did 'Apollo' get into my room? The only way to get in here without anybody getting suspicious is if you either work here or if you are family. And I'm pretty sure that I don't have a brother or cousin named Apollo.

So how?..
