I was sitting on one of the seat in the court watching my stepsister do her thing. Delilah was killing the opposing side and by the looks on their faces they knew it.
After the court was adjourned, I waited for her outside by her car. Delilah Stone was the poster child for the perfect siren, she was tall with legs that were long for miles. With her straight black hair and almost perfect face, toned body with slim hips.
I was always wondered if it wasn't the same genes that ran in us but would be because of our different mothers. Her mother Victoria Stone was still together with our father Davis Stone. Her mother loathed me and my mother because we caused a brief separation in her marriage with my father.
Delilah walked in long strides but stumbled briefly when she saw me. She continued walking towards me with an impassive expression on her face.
"Look what the rat dragged in." Delilah sneered at me. I don't really think that she hated me, more like resented me.
"I am not here for your trash talking but for business." I flipped her off.
"Business?" She frowned. What I liked about Delilah was she was always ready to put aside her issues with me to do business.
"Yep, There's this woman. Her name is Amy Jones and she's a victim of domestic violence."
"She needs a lawyer?" She arched her brows with her face in a smug smile.
"Definitely."
"What's in for me? That is if I decide to do it?" I knew that she was already fishing for favors.
"Amy.." After giving her the details, I could see that Delilah was upset.
"Seizing of properties, domestic violence, child abuse, that's a lot of crimes committed against that innocent woman." She ran her hand through the strands of her hair.
"Geez, where the fuck is this guy?" She asked agitated.
"He's in the police custody." I placated her because she looked like she wanted to start a murder spree.
"He better be, else I'll end him myself." Delilah was very dangerous damn good at shimmering. She could make someone commit suicide while smiling. She took after our Grandma Anastasia who was ruthless in dealing her own hand of justice.
"So what's your price, that's if you decide to take the job?" Our department was going to sponsor Amy in getting a lawyer and I took advantage of it by hiring one of the best.
"I am doing the job pro bono and you don't need to give me anything." I arched my brows in surprise, I didn't know that my stepsister still have a little good in her. Her heart wasn't rotten black after all.
"Remove that look on your face, it's just this one time." She sniped at me. Whatever I have already gotten what I wanted.
"Are you sure?"
"You know what? On second thoughts you're invited to dinner." I groaned low in my throat.
"Except you don't want me to take the case?" If not for Amy and her son ..... I wouldn't even be doing this in the first place.
"Ok whatever, Let's go."
