Chereads / The Grimoire: Battle Of Sorcerers / Chapter 39 - An Old Enemy

Chapter 39 - An Old Enemy

"RAPHAEL!!" Rose screamed. Fear, hatred and rage the key attribute of her loud utterance.

"Rose" came Wilson's soft reply as he strode down the stairs. He had sensed an unfamiliar presence enter the building, but he hadn't expected it to be this woman. He couldn't forget how evil and treacherous the things she had done were, that heaven couldn't forgive her anymore. She had slain multiple innocent people for power. And committed atrocities that he didn't want to remember any longer.

"Long time no see" He added, his shallow childish voice gradually changing to the soothing masculine and Angelic voice he used in his true form.

"How is this possible? Why are you still here?" Rose questioned ignoring every sense of formality and elegance. She was maddened and shocked by this man's presence, and just couldn't hide it.

This man had given her one of her most dreaded curses. While she was cursed to bleed anytime she performed magic by the heavens, she had taken an oath to get stronger and break this curse and the only way she could do so was by challenging the person who had cursed her at first, the creator.

She honed her abilities to their peak and when she was at her strongest, she had challenged the creator himself. And that was when she had met this man. His appearance was much different from now. She could still remember the angelic face, the large wings that could cause a tornado with a single flap.

She had obviously lost to this man in battle and it wasn't even a close fight. She lost so badly that she questioned if she was even strong at all. After her defeat, this man had proceeded to give her an even more dangerous curse that would eventually lead to her death.

This being had cursed her to never grow again. She would never be able to heal her wounds with magic. Any injury she sustained will stay with her until death. In short, he had taken away her healing capabilities as a sorceress and a human being.

She was a huntress and a fighter and was constantly in battle. With her strength never growing, and her wounds never healing, she had died after five battles at the hands of a mere human. It was the most embarrassing and disgraceful moment of her entire life, and she wouldn't forget it no matter what

She had never expected a being so powerful as this to still be around. As long as he was around there was no way she was accomplishing her goals. He was just beyond any power she had never seen.

Rose was just beginning to see that this was the small boy that had messed Jeffery up so badly. The man was lucky he was still alive. She could tell that his powers had been greatly nerfed by this human vessel, but that didn't mean he couldn't destroy them all if he wanted to. His power was simply incomprehensible. This was the strength of an archangel.

"Are you not happy to see me Rose?" Raphael questioned sarcastically, while watching the woman suffer in agony at her inability to harm him. If he wanted he could erase her completely with just a wave of his hands. But he wasn't the type to punish people without any reason.

"You! How are you still here? Alive!" Rose returned.

"I'm immortal Rose. It seems you've lost some knowledge while being died" Raphael mocked. Even though he was shocked to see her here, he wasn't exactly surprised.

Humans were just unpredictable. He couldn't imagine why anyone would even try summoning this woman, not to think of reviving her. She was a threat to humanity and anything related to her never ever ended well. Her strength had been drastically reduced by her summoner, which was a very good thing to do. Even with half of her strength, Raphael doubted that anyone in the room would stand a chance against her.

"So you want to be revived Rose?" Raphael asked with an arched eyebrow.

Rose remained silent, she didn't want anything concerning her to be leaked out to this being in particular. He could singlehandedly stop her from coming back alive if he willed it. Why he hadn't stopped Jeffery still remained a puzzle to her. Except if he couldn't interfere with things that weren't related to his purpose. Her hypothesis might be right, but she wasn't willing to take any risks at all.

Raphael could easily read her mind and he smiled to himself. This woman was extremely clever. What these people didn't know was once this woman was revived, every curse that she had received would be cancelled out.

Her earlier curses only applied to her till death. She had already died, and she wasn't bound by those curses anymore. Her resurrection would be a rebirth, and she would be able to do all the things she had been cursed not to. She would be able to grow without limits, and her wounds would heal instantaneously.

The only person who could match Rose in healing was Angus, And this was only possible because Angus retained a bit of his power, when he had blessed the child.

For the past five centuries, he hadn't seen anyone who had surpassed Rose. Few had reached her level, but none had surpassed her. But that was no longer the case in this generation. He could tell that Jeffery Bruce with the First Grimoire had the potential of surpassing Rose without much effort. And if he wasn't stopped before that happened, then things weren't looking very good for anybody.

He wasn't allowed to interfere in human affairs, the only reason he had fought against Jeffery the first time was because he was a threat to his purpose on earth. And as long as the man wasn't a threat, he was unable to go after him.

It was a shame that he couldn't just go and solve all their problems for them. But he vowed to help them grow, and be able to solve their own problems. He would have retrieved the Lance by now and be on his way, but had decided to stay back and help these humans get stronger.

Rose dematerialized almost immediately without saying another word to the being. She knew better than to cross her limits. And she didn't want to stay in his presence any longer. She was scared just by his voice only. Anytime he spoke, she was reminded of how his voice spoke the very words that cursed her, and it made her shudder in fear.

She would return later for a definite answer. Even though Alexander had made it clear that it was a no, she could still see the desperation in the younger boys eyes. And she knew that if she pressed hard enough, he would crack and concur to her words.

Raphael smiled at the woman's retreat, before turning to face the two siblings, and his caretaker Angus standing behind him. They weren't that surprised by his familiarity with Rose, the only question he could tell they all wanted to ask was why Rose acted the way she did in his presence.

He didn't want to leave them in the dark, so he had told them about Rose. Not telling them only meant leaving them at the risk of facing an enemy they weren't prepared to face. And also to keep them off the thought of ever reviving the woman. They had better chance at defeating Jeffrey than defeating a full power revived Rose. He could read minds and could already read the thoughts of Daniel. And hopefully what he had said would stirr him off the path he wanted to take.

Alexander was already aware of how much of a threat Rose was, but he didn't know she had been this dangerous while she was alive. This was more reason to prevent her from ever being revived. She was a monster that was never to be released from it's chains. He hoped that Daniel understands now why he had maintained a "no" even though he was desperate to stop their father.

If Rose was ever to be revived, they would be fighting against two monsters instead of one. And they would certainly lose.

Angus didn't know much about this lady. All he knew was that she assisted the Bruce family, but he never trusted her. She radiated evil, and he could tell she wasn't a good person despite her looks.

Something always felt off about her and now he was clear of all the doubts he ever had. She was even more dangerous than he had imagined. And was not even meant to be trusted at all. He didn't know what she came here for, but he sincerely hoped that she never came back.

Daniel couldn't even imagine how foolish he had been. He had actually been considering going behind Alexander's back and making the deal with Rose. But now that he knew how dangerous and evil this lady was, he was even frightened to imagine her in his head. No wonder his father had sealed away her true power even in her summoned state. She was a bigger threat than Jeffery was, and he felt stupid for ever thinking about betraying his brother for someone like her. In fact, he felt like going after her and wiping her out for good.
