"What is this badge?" I asked the bandit.
"I am not going to spill anything to you!" The bandit shouted. Javier became enraged at the man's remarks and pointed his sword at him. The man swallowed a gulp of saliva when he saw the sword so close to his neck.
"I served my part.." The bandit said.
"What?" I asked.
"Water for the sun who came down for us! May he smile at us again!" He shouted as he bit his tongue. I was quite shocked by the bandit's actions. He didn't even care about his life. We didn't even wanted to kill him. Had he committed a petty crime, the Adventurers' Guild would have given him two years in prison which is far better for him than killing himself.
"I guess he was from a secret cult." Javier said.
It was the only possibility, considering his last words.
"Am I being targeted by someone?" I asked him.
"No, that's not possible. The Lord never had enemies who loathed him. Even the surrounding Lords are friendly to him. How can he even attract the attention of some cult who would attack his son?" He said.
"That's true." I said.
Our estate has never had a problem since my father's great-grandfather's time. Our neighbor estates are good friends of my father, and they are not jealous of him. As for me, in 17 years of my life, I stayed in our territory and would only rarely visit our neighbouring territories.
"I probably suspect that he did that because you asked him about the badge, Lord Davien." Javier said.
"Just because of that?" I asked.
"Maybe, they were instructed to kill themselves if someone ever asked or saw that badge of theirs." He said.
"I think so." I said. I don't know why, but I felt nothing when I saw him die in front of me. I am not responsible for his death, so maybe because of that I am not saddened by his death.
"One of our horses is dead. We would need to use the second horse to go to the upcoming town and report it to the guild." Javier said.
"Okay." I said.
We took out all the necessary equipment and food supplies from our carriages and were ready to go to the town.
Eight hours later.
I could see the city of Valerio in front of me. To enter the city an ID was needed, and we went through the formalities at the city gate.
We introduced ourselves to them and told them what happened to us. They said they would send people to retrieve the bandit's bodies as soon as possible.
We booked an inn for one night and are currently staying there.
"So much has happened in eight hours.." I said to myself. I was thinking about this city while taking a bath. The city is surrounded by huge stone walls. If the Viscount had built more houses and shops instead of walls, this town would have become a city.
I got out of the bath and dried my hair with a towel.
Javier's taking care of the bandit matter. He intends to send me to the academy with trained mercenaries from the Mercenary Guild to ensure my safety in case someone actually is targeting me.
I looked at myself in the mirror. A tall and a little above average body built, white-skinned man with meaningful, blue eyes, very thin lips, plucked eyebrows, a long nose and average ears. Finally, black hair.
If I had to say it for myself, I looked good.
*knock*
*knock*
I started looking for something comfortable to wear as I heard the knock. The rooms in this inn are small. Single bed, closet, desk, bathroom. My sword and previous clothes were kept on the bed. The money my father gave me was kept in the closet along with the spare clothes.
I put on a white shirt and black pants and hurried to open the door.
The moment I opened the door, I was stabbed on the right side of my chest. I couldn't comprehend what happened to me and fell to the ground. I was shaking like a bug on the ground. It was hard to breathe for sir.
Ignoring the sounds of my hard breathing, two people came inside my room. They wore black clothes and had hidden their faces.
"Quick! Find his money!" One of them said.
I tried to take out the knife inside my chest but one of the thieves pushed it in even more with his leg.
"Don't try to do something and stay down there." He said.
Blood was pouring from my wound faster than before. I couldn't remove it right now or else they may deepen the knife inside my chest even more.
In a span of half a minute, they searched up the entire room and found my money and escaped with it. It was as if a storm had come in this room. Even if I survive this, there's no way my reputation and honor won't be affected.
Just when I thought I was going to die, the same screen appeared in front of me. It had a new option in front of me.
[ HACKS UNLOCKED: ]
[ UNLIMITED HEALTH ]
Duration: 4 sec.
Cooldown: 2 hrs.
[ AIMBOT ]
Range: 10m
Set Target: Default
As soon as I touched the "Unlimited Health" screen with my remaining strength, my body regained all the strength.
Without wasting any time, I removed the blade from my stomach. When the blade was removed, the stabbed site healed as if it never existed. I couldn't even see the process of it healing with my eyes.
No, it's not my priority right now. I must catch them. I grabbed the sword kept on the bed and also the knife on the floor. I ran out the door and down the stairs. I saw the receptionist looking at me with surprise.
Anybody would be surprised with the hurried look on my face.
"Where are the two who had just come down the stairs!? A minute or two earlier!!" I said with a hurried voice.
"T-They had gone out the inn and towards the right." I followed her instructions and ran like a madman.
I ran straight and looked left and right. I ran wherever the road would lead me. I didn't even know their faces. How can i find them?
"Have you seen a person wearing black clothes and hiding their faces with black masks!?" I asked every shop-owner on the roads.
Two hours later.
I couldn't find them at last even after I explored the whole town. After losing every hope, I came back to the inn. I could see Javier standing there.
