"...badump...badump...badump.."
Deep within the boundless sky, from the very corners of this universe travels a curious little comet. It looked to be made of clumps of hard space dust and debris, likely from its travels throughout the cosmos. From deep within the debris, a dense chaotic mass of energy of a myriad of colors thrummed and churned.
Was it excited? Nervous? Did it have a sense of self at all? Where did it come from? The oval shaped comet fell and fell. Through asteroid belts, between stars and other celestial objects, it avoided them all. It seemed to be unstoppable, like destiny itself charted its path. Until finally, it steered off its course, pulled by gravity, or fate as it seemed toward a budding planet.
The planet looked beautiful. It lay there, suspended on a sunbeam, untainted and untouched. It's vibrant green and blue hues seemingly attracting the comet from its path.
The comet was fast, it burned up in the atmosphere, the clumps of debris cleansed from it's form. From below, it looked like a splendid chaotically colored beam of light. Breaking through Nyx's sheet of eternal night and illuminating the sky with it's iridescent glow. The few inhabitants of the planet staring in interest and curiosity.
And finally, it impacted the planet, sending swathes of dust and debris up in the sky and tearing the world asunder. It stops, skidding along the land and landing right into a deep lake.
Deep within the murky depths, where the comet was supposed to be, laid a crystal egg. It glowed a brilliant light, and started shaking. It seemed something was struggling in there.
"..crrk!...cRrrK!....CRACK!"
-And it seemed it finally broke through. From within the low glow of the crystal, came what seemed to be a draconic head, then another, and another, ...and another? Oh! And one more of course. Emerging from the shell, dreary eyes blinked.
The newborn creature lay there, floating in the water. The heads were like that of dragons, except the horns. With teeth so vicious and pointy it looked like it could scare metal into ripping itself. Eyes lost but with a glint of intelligence and awareness. Their necks were long and spindly, connected all together at the base of their torso. Their arms and legs were small and weak looking, yet nothing could hide those sharp talons. The tail was almost twice the length of their torso. Indeed, this creature was made to kill and dominate. All around it was riddled with spikes and ridges, yet they were not very pronounced, indicating the young age of this beast.
This beast was undoubtedly a Hydra. The now identified Hydra looked with around with it's myriad of heads in great and wild curiosity. It saw its previous crystal home, the shell, and suddenly felt something from the deep recesses of their mind. A primal urge to eat grew in its many minds. Weirdly, despite having minds and brains, They still all seemed to have the same personality and thought processes. Akin to hivemind of five brains that can all multitask different things at the same time. Anyway, upon the arrival of this urge they all decided to give in to their instincts.
After they had finished eating their shell, The Hydra realized that their body was starting to overheat. Their heart started beating in their draconic ears, and their heads started to sway. Slowly floating down to the lakebed, all five heads couldn't hold on anymore and gave in. The heat and drumming of everything ever being too much for this newborn creature. And then there was absolutely nothing, The Hydra's minds twisting in confusion from the sudden lack of any of the sensations that they were just introduced to. So it tried--
PAIN! Lots and lots of it.
"RAAAAAAAAAAA!" They bellowed underwater.
The Hydra, having been just introduced to pain, instantly decided in their heads that this was the worst feeling ever! Yet, from deep within their heart and minds, a new feelings emerged. A primal sense of Pride! No! How could a mighty creature like them succumb to this! They won't let it happen! Ever! After all, in all their 10 minutes of life, the Hydra was the creature they thought was best and strongest among all others that they had met.
And so, with a new resolution in it's beastly heart, the Hydra held on. For it didn't know what would happen if it didn't. Even as their bones and muscles swelled, their instincts screaming to let go and as their body changed and glowed with iridescent light, influenced by the very material that they were born from.
Alas, for a mere newborn, mythical Hydra or not, this was too much. And so, with great regret, the Hydra fainted. The echoes of their pain and suffering slowly dimming in their combined minds.
-Until next time-
( This is a casual novel written with the intent to write about ideas that I found no one else wanted to write about. Monster MC's in a mythological world like this seems few and far between, so I wanted to write about it. This is my first novel, so any advice is welcome. Btw, the world and area the MC is in right now is what is to be ancient Greece and Olympus, They are just a bit early. The MC is a special existence and as such would not take long to fight against beings of such caliber. I want the MC to be treated as an actual mythical and incomprehensible existence that can contend with beasts and Gods of his kind, not just a slightly strong animal that would make friends with everyone for no reason. The MC is a proud Hydra, and I want them to be treated as such. So if you think something like that is in your alley, support this novel in whatever way you can, anything is appreciated. )
( P.S. I will be referring to the Hydra as they/them or it because while they are Male, there are multiple heads and I don't want to make the readers to forget that by using a pronoun for a singular entity )
