Susan felt angry for two reasons.
One, it seemed that Derek only liked her because of the resemblance she had with someone he cared about for so many years. His affections were purely hers.
Two, he was using her as a replacement. A substitute! That got her really angry!
Derek sensed her raging anger and tried to calm her down.
"You have to calm down!" He said but it was no use. She was past the stage of calming down.
"You expect me to calm down and do what? Become the person you want me to be? Become her? That girl?" She took off the quilt that had a purpose of keeping her warm. "I heard your tale, evening if it's just the beginning, I know where it's leading to."
She got up from the bed despite Derek's protest. He followed her and grabbed her hand. This, she took as an offence.
"Let go of me!" She struggled but no matter what she did, he just wouldn't budge.
