Again, as Scarlet walked into her complex and to the hallway leading to her apartment, she heard footsteps and stopped in her tracks. After some seconds, Scarlet scoffed, as if noticing that it was all in her head.
'Pull yourself together,' she thought, bringing out her keys and sliding them into the keyhole.
Once Scarlet was inside her apartment, her phone rang again and it made her jump a little. Scarlet rolled her eyes with a little hiss escaping her mouth. She was irritated at the fact that she felt anxious as she wasn't one to fret easily. Not bothering to pick up the phone or check who was calling, Scarlet tossed it on the chair and walked deeper into her apartment.
She looked over at the table near the door and saw an edge of the knife that was hidden under a table mat she'd laid there. Scarlet absently nodded her head. The place suited her nicely. It was small and cozy and the owner had allowed her to repaint the room which she had. It was her favorite color -- lilac -- and it made her happy whenever she walked into the house. Temporarily, she forgot about the message that she'd gotten from Andrew. She needed to rest up and gather strength for her job later that night.
As she walked into her bathroom, her mind began going through all that had happened that day. It had been quite an eventful day and Scarlet had met something -- rather someone unexpected. She'd even given out her name -- and she hardly did that. She sighed and touched the water she'd run into her bathtub, checking for the temperature. It was perfect for her, so Scarlet got back up and went into her bedroom where she'd pulled off the nurse uniform that she was wearing. She took off the red wig that she had been wearing and the wig cap that kept her brown hair in place underneath. She sighed and raked her fingers through her hair, rubbing against her scalp, causing some sort of relief for her. Scarlet then proceeded to take out the blue contacts in her eyes, putting them back into their saline solution. The contacts were so blue, that was often the first thing people noticed about her, and Scarlet couldn't have it any other way.
Scarlet turned around and headed back for her bathroom. Her body craved that warmth and her nose, the smell of her bathing wash and salts at that moment. As she got to the short hallway that would lead her to the bathroom, Scarlet passed the wall mirror that she'd fixed there. She stopped in her tracks and back stepped. Now, she was standing directly in front of the mirror staring at herself.
Slowly, she began to move her body, making sultry movements and feeling the tension that had been gathering dissipate. Scarlet felt strong when she danced -- she felt in charge and powerful. And she was because of the attention she attracted anytime people watched her dance. Suddenly, she couldn't wait to get to the club for her performance that night. Also, there was something that she had to do concerning Andrew, and the plan was starting to take shape in her mind. She was going to teach that man a lesson and if he didn't learn, Scarlet was ready to do away with him as no one was going to stop her from achieving her goal -- no one.
Scarlet smiled -- a wicked one and sashayed into the bathroom that was already full of jasmine and rosy scents.
* * *
Arcane was already bubbling by the time Scarlet got there. She could hear the music from outside even though it was muffled due to the soundproofing that they'd done. She was already excited and nodded a greeting to the bouncers that were stationed outside the club's door, checking on the IDs of the people seeking entry. Some of them were already winking and smiling at Scarlet -- some of the ladies shrieked as well -- those were rich ladies who had tastes for the other things of the world.
The expression on Scarlet's face was stern as she walked to the dressing room where she would get ready for her performance. She wasn't moved -- not in the slightest by her fans. So, while Scarlet powdered her face, one of the dancers that had just performed walked in -- she had finished her act and had sweat dripping from the thick wig that she wore. Wiping it off, she stopped and stood behind Scarlet with a sneer on her face.
"You're up next," Roxy said.
Scarlet didn't respond to her.
"Did you hear what I said?"
"I did..." Scarlet eventually replied with an exasperated look on her face.
"You think you're better than all the girls here, don't you?"
"You just keep stating the obvious, don't you?" Scarlet replied as she stood up and adjusted the sheer, skin-tight jumpsuit that she was wearing as she moved her body proudly and almost seductively.
Roxy watched with her eyes green with envy even as she admired the outfit Scarlet wore -- one which accentuated every curve and contour of her body.
