Chapter 4 - Audience with the King

Enjento Supai POV:

"Enjento Supai has arrived at the request of his Majesty."

The doors to the throne room opened and revealed a large chamber with the Royal Guard standing in two lines facing each other, creating a path towards the throne where the King sat.

The King wore clothes similar to the card named after him in Poker. Half of his face was covered by a mighty blonde beard, and the grey eyes and nose that weren't covered by the beard were well-sculpted, leaving many to imagine the handsome face hidden beneath that beard.

Sitting by the King's side were three smaller thrones. One for the Queen, who wasn't present due to her health issues. Another for the Prince, who was also away since he was at the country's border for some fieldwork experience.

Lastly, one for Princess Elisia, who was the nation's treasure due to her intellect, magic and charm. As well as the someone Enjento couldn't stand due to her ridiculous behaviour of always clinging to him. Though at present, it seems that she is wearing her mask of a well-mannered and cultured young lady.

Standing before the thrones was the Captain of the Guard, Alessandro, in his shining armour, looking majestic as usual.

(As well as being unusually useless, like back in the Prologue where he engages in useless theatrics with the cultist.)

After announcing his greeting, Enjento kneeled before the King in typical Western fashion, and the King spoke.

"Rise, Enjento Supai-dono. There is no need for such formality after your excellent contributions to our Alsfond Kingdom."

"Is it alright if I call you Enjento-dono? I can't seem to get your last name correct."

"As your Majesty wishes."

"Thank you, moving on to the main order of business. Oh, and please rise. There is no need for you to remain kneeling like that. It makes me feel terrible, especially with how you helped our Kingdom countless times."

"I thank you for your kindness, your Majesty."

After Enjento stood back up, the King cleared his throat and spoke in a confident and majestic voice befitting a ruler.

"I, King Tiberius Charles Lovell III, grant Enjento-dono the right to establish his independent Intelligence Agency, with authority equivalent to the Prime Minister. As well as funding of one million gold coins per month from the crown to use for your Agency's establishment."

At the mention of that much money. Everyone's jaw dropped wide open.

"WHAT!?!" Screamed the Royal Guard and Enjento.

"Your Majesty! With all due respect. That's roughly 5% of the country's annual revenue!" Alessandro exclaimed.

"I am well aware of that, Captain Alessandro."

"Then why does he get a budget three times more than the Royal Guard!?!"

"Well..."

King Tiberius had a blank look on his face and said with a straight face.

"Let's say a close family member persuaded me with many infallible arguments and logic that Enjento's Agency will benefit the Kingdom in the long run."

Once King Tiberius finished saying that, Princess Elisia gave Enjento a wink.

(Oh, so that's why.)

(Well, it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more cash, but it's going to be annoying knowing I'm in this crazy girl's debt.)

(Crap! I acted disgracefully with that outburst!)

Regaining his senses, Enjento bowed deeply to the King and thanked him.

"I gratefully thank his Majesty and accept his kindness. I'll do my best with what little ability to help this Kingdom."

(Until I find a way to get back to Earth and bring back an invasion force to colonize this planet.)

(But something feels off right now.)

The entire throne room was looking at Enjento with a deadpan expression.

In everyone's minds, they were all thinking.

(Bruh! You managed to resolve corruption within the nobility, reform several systems, implement new farming techniques that boost our agriculture production two-fold, deal with a dangerous cultist and save the princess. All in less than a month. How the f*** are your abilities considered little!?!)

Unaware of what everyone was thinking. Alex came to a very unusual conclusion.

(Why are they staring at me like that?)

(Could it be that there is something expected of me?)

(Is the cliche part in typical isekai manga and light novels where the country that summoned me is scheming to give me some impossible task like defeating the Demon King? And if I somehow manage to return alive, they'll convince everyone that I obtained the Demon King's powers and became the next Demon King and then round up everyone to try and kill me?)

(Wait, I'm not the Hero, the dude who is the Hero has already been registered as an adventurer and is training with guys from the army.)

[Author's note: That's right, Enjento is not the summoned Hero. More on the Hero in later chapters.]

(Though that doesn't mean they won't dispose of me later. After all, I have authority equivalent to the Prime Minister. I'm not surprised if half the nobles in the Kingdom want me dead for upsetting the balance of power.)

(If that's so, my next objective is to form the Intelligence Agency as soon as possible. Find a good base of operations, recruit personnel, find other means of obtaining funding besides relying on the King, a-)

*Ahem!*

*Ahem!*

Everyone turned to look at Princess Elisia, clearing her throat to gather everyone's attention.

"Enjento-dono, I think everyone present is just thinking you are being too modest."

"After all, you have accomplished many feats that have brought prosperity to the Kingdom in such a short time while it takes years or decades for others to accomplish."

"So, it's alright for you not to be so stiff and formal."

"Right, everyone?"

Princess Elisia looked at everyone with a smile, but the intense gaze she gave everyone made them think they briefly saw an Asura standing behind her back.

"Umm, I'll keep that in mind, your Highness."

"Now, if you'll please excuse me. I best get going. I would like to get the establishment of my Intelligence Agency as soon as possible."

Having said that, Enjento quickly dashed out of the Throne Room to get away from this crazy woman.

"Huh!?! Wait! I thought you were going to take me out and join us for dinner!?!

Looking at the bipolar princess. Everyone in the throne room felt pity for Enjento and offered him a silent prayer in their hearts.
