The moment the pair of eyes landed upon him, Shuyun felt all the turmoil within his body cease. It was as if he had been given anesthesia, allowing him to slowly loose touch with reality outside of his control. It was an awkward feeling, as if the his own thoughts that he possessed were no longer his, his thoughts the embodiment of a paper placed before a teacher.
Out for all to see.
It had only lasted a second, but, much like his experience passing through the crimson guardian formation, his entire being laid bare, the eyes of the spirits of sin too gave off the same feeling. Though, contrary to the invasive and domineering will flushed into him with the crimson guardian formation, the spirits of sin possessed a neutral and calm will. It seemed as though nothing else in the world matter to them then the very emotions that threatened the place of which they guarded.
Though, unlike the fights he has experienced and witnessed before, he couldn't feel the raw strength the spirits possessed. He could only deem them to be very strong, which would fall in line with Yeyins explanation of the origins of the spirits of sin.
A moment later, the pair of luminescent eyes shifted away from shuyun, granting him instant relief as he let out a deep breathe.
The attention of the spirits then shifted to Yeyin, who showed no reaction to the prying of such beings. In fact, the most noticeable response on her face was but a light smile. If shuyun were to view this scene, he would've probably thought she found the whole situation amusing.
As the spirits of sin completed their scouring, they faded away as quick as they came, releasing the heavy atmosphere from their crutches.
Elder Feng lightly chuckled as he turned around to face shuyun.
As he knew the capabilities of the spirits of sin, for them to show not a single reaction when observing shuyun could only mean his feelings were of the truest form, not a single feeling of envy or greed towards the known rich treasures in their possession only made the elder feel better about his sudden and rash decision. Of course, the original intent of first impression was still present, but this event helped settle any misgivings he many have had towards his decision.
"Now, behind this door, is the treasury of our academy"
Though Elder Feng did not know of shuyuns origins, he could assert that, with shuyuns abnormal reactions, and stacking the fact that he was clearly not apart of the Elvin race, that wherever shuyun was from, the riches that the academy possessed would most certainly garner awe from him. As even the past rich masters and mistresses that he had awarded treasures had been stun locked at the sheer amount of treasures all in one place. It was obvious to him that an inexperienced child such as shuyun would clearly feel the same way.
It was through this that with both genuine feelings and feelings swayed with the attempt to fish a favor that Elder Feng planned to win him over. And it had proven to be successful with many in the past. The only problem was that none of them were worthwhile investments, as not every guest of the queen is confirmed to bring with them great talent. Many of the acquittances of the queen were never direct, and the recipient, being the young master or mistress, would reap the benefits of their families connection. But what made Elder Feng feel especially confident about Shuyun was that the Queen had personally requested for Shuyuns entrance. And while he may not feel even a minuscule amount of Qi within his body, he trusted his intuition whole-heartedly.
It really was a waiting game of investment.
***
Dark brown runes lit up along the length of the door. Matching its grand presence, the light from the runes illuminated the closed room as the ground started to shake.
Upon shuyuns first arrival, the room wasn't very lit, but somehow seemed to be perfectly visible. It was an imbalance that was very strange in it of itself, though it could be attribute to the large rooms engraved upon the door. It seemed to cause spatial abnormalities by shuyuns observations, and they abnormalities only became more prominent with the activation of the runes.
Shuyun gaged the reactions of both Yeyin and Elder Feng on the situation happening before them, only for him to find their faces without a care in the world. He could only infer that such an event occurring when the large wooden door was open was natural, and occurred every time it was opened.
As the shaking of the room started to intense, the length the door between the wall it had once been flush with started to expand. Though, as time went on, the angelic golden light of treasure was no where to be revealed. This was of course, following the trope of movies back in shuyuns home world. But what instead greeted him was a complete black void.
The door was very tall in stature, equivalent to a multiple story building in height, so the space it revealed was rather large. But even so, no matter the amount of space it revealed, it seemed to be nothing but a void.
As the door fully extended open, Elder Feng made his way towards the black void that was once hidden behind the wooden door. When he arrived in front of it, he looked back at shuyun only for a moment, letting out a smile while gaging his reaction to the door. Only when he seemed satisfied did he continue into the void.
"Don't worry, think of this void as another security measure, a trick of the mind..."
Elder Feng said as his voice drifted off with his departure. Shuyun stared at the void for a couple moments before looked towards his all-knowing informant.
Yeyin laughed at the reaction on his face, which was a somewhat confused but curious expression. She felt especially good knowing she could express her true emotions without worry of offending the other party. This was because, while she may be fairly strong, she was, at the end of the day, a maid of the palace, and had to act as such.
To see Shuyun display his true thoughts on his face was unusual, with most hiding their thoughts behind the veil of a facade, always trying to maintain a perfect image.
"This is a minor defensive formation of the true version, called 'The Night's Extension'"
Yeyin walked up to the black void under the watchful eyes of shuyun, who, as Yeyin approached closer to the void, followed closely behind her.
"Just think of it as a formation set in enveloping a target in an external darkness, where the soul is cover with the energy of the night to separate the soul from its living body. This formation is especially suitable to entrap the person, leaving their real body defenseless, in the case that anyone was truly aiming to rob the academy of its resources."
Shuyuns eyes slightly twitched at the hearing of her words. The capabilities of this world seemed to know no bounds.
A/N: Sorry if the pacing of the story seems to be very slow right now. From the next chapter onwards, expect a faster pace.
