Chapter 36 - The Choosing of a Lifetime Companion

It was truly a marble. The infinite dark that was contained behind the wooden door was a wonderous sight to see. Contrary to the Crimson Guardian Formation's pressing nature, the Night's Extension gave a feeling of eternal tranquility. It was as if once you stepped into it, only an endless sleep awaited you.

Shuyun took a deep breath as he stepped towards the opening of the night's extension. Walking up to the border, he stepped in. Immediately, almost as if walking through an empty film, he appeared at the other side.

First in his line of sight, Elder Feng stood in front of him. Not even a second after, Yeyin appeared behind him.

But what lied beyond Elder Feng was what seemed to be an infinite rows of pillars that stretched beyond what his eye could see. Each pillar was only equivalent in height to the middle of his upper body. At the top of each of the dark silver pillars, which at a glance appeared to be as old as the door to the treasury, was a shining blue light. This light continued towards the dark space above the room which similarly had no end. It was the shape of the pillar, and if one looked hard enough, each of the pillars had an object floating above them. Many silhouettes of weapons could be seen hovering above each pillar engulfed in blue light.

"This is the treasury of our academy, named Peoria"

Elder Feng spoke once he felt Shuyun had taken enough in. Yeyin, during Shuyuns amazement, simply watched the actions of the curious cat with a blank expression on her face.

"Really everything in this academy is beyond anything I could have expected based on the mere words said to me."

Elder Feng smiled.

"Glad to hear"

Elder Feng then proceeded to walk towards Shuyun as he opened his palm. Within his palm, a bright blue halo started manifesting. Comparing the color of this blue to the surround beams within the pillars, one would easily be able to notice the near perfect mimicry the color of the halo and the beams. It was obvious they were connected.

"Within the treasury, which is not an existing room within the real world, but a separate dimension, the space could be said to be true infinity."

Flicking his hand, the bright blue halo appeared around Shuyuns right wrist.

"Since you are without access to the portal that leads here, you could easily find yourself lost the farther into the treasury you go. Because of this, the blue halo that is currently on your wrist serves both as an exit, as well as a key to let you reach into the many pillars within this dimension."

Shuyun looked at the bright halo that had manifested around his wrist. Shuyun couldn't imagine how such devices that had access to abilities such as teleportation, even if limited, were not guarded treasures themselves!

Especially the one he was just granted, which could travel between different concepts of worlds!

It was to say that given the information about the academies treasury dimension, he couldn't help what wonder what would happen if he got trapped in the time space between both worlds. He had seen enough thriller fantasy series back in his home world to imagine the horrifying outcome of such an event.

"Simply to use the teleportation abilities of the halo, just imagine leaving the treasury, which you would then be sent back outside of the treasuries gate."

Elder Feng then turned his attention back to the endless field behind him.

"Go, choose whatever artifact or weapon you desire."

Shuyun nodded toward the elder.

"I will remember this kindness, Elder Feng"

He slightly bowed, leaving the elder with a light smile on his face.

Shuyun, after expressing his gratitude, then started making his way into the endless field.

"Would you like me to come with you?"

Yeyin voiced out her concern from out behind him, prompting his response. Waving his hand without facing her, he spoke.

"There is no need, I won't be able to learning anything if I always have you as a resort."

Yeyin merely nodded at his response, backing herself back to were Elder Feng was. Though while her facial expression may show a neutral expression, internally, her image of Shuyun could not stop rising.

'Maybe he would be a perfect candidate'

As Shuyun traversed the many rows of pillars containing various objects, he started noticing a pattern. It seemed as, to his intuition, the feeling the artifacts and weapons gave as he went further into the infinite field became much richer. He wasn't sure if it was because the grade of the artifact was greater or if it was just his mind playing tricks on him. Still, following this newfound thought of his, he continued further.

Swords, rings, brackets, amulets, bows... every item imaginable could be seen here.

Still, even as he spent countless hours walking, none had yet to catch his eye.

It had been long enough that even Yeyin had started to feel unease.

It wasn't as if Shuyun was the only person Elder Feng had brought to the treasury. In fact, he was one of many. And she had been tasked to guard every single one of them in the past. Counting her experience, the young master and mistresses would not go out for more than a few hours before returning to them with a treasure in their hand. But, even as serval hours past by, Shuyun showed no signs of returning. This was slightly worrying as she knew that both herself and the elder possessed no control over this dimension. In actuality, because of the nature of the dimension, which was said to be created by their first queen, her abilities were heavily restricted. While she had senses that could nearly reach the very end of the elfin realm itself, within the treasure, she would be lucky to sense even a couple of meters in front of her.

Standing calmly next to her, Elder Feng was also of similar thoughts.

"He couldn't have forgotten how to use the halo... could he?"
