VANESSA POV
“What do you mean you’re going to distract Falcon?”
I couldn’t help the panic that shot through my voice.
“I meant that I’ll compete in the competition and distract him. It’ll give you enough time to get into my father’s estate and go through the library.”
“He’ll—!”
I felt Helen grab onto my arm, tightening enough to pull me back from yelling louder. I sucked it back and looked over to the vendor that was openly staring at us. Quickly grabbing onto Erik’s arm, I pulled him away from the stand with Helen in tow.
I had to talk him out of this.
“Vanessa—”
I turned and grabbed onto his arms, speaking low. “He’ll kill you.”
He frowned at me. “Didn’t you tell me that your dream was about him pushing me off a cliff?”
“Well. Yes, but—”
“So I should be fine.”
