*Vanessa’s POV*
It was silent between us for quite a while before Erik spoke again. When he did, his voice was clear and stable once more.
“There’s something I have to tell you,” Erik said as he turned to me. He swallowed down roughly before speaking again. “There was someone else in the woods today, someone I didn’t recognize.”
“What do you mean?” I asked confused.
“I couldn’t get a scent, and if I did I don’t think I would have recognized it. It was… something I never smelt before.” He rubbed his face in frustration as he looked at me. “We’re going to have to be a lot more careful going forward.”
Before I could open my mouth to speak, Erik let out a grunt of pain and I moved closer to him to try and help. I didn’t know how exactly I was going to help, but I just felt the need to be close to him despite it.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice a hushed whisper, too scared to speak louder than this in fear of having someone over hear me.
