*Vanessa’s POV*
“What if he comes back?” I asked timidly, staring off into the forest.
“He won’t,” Erik insisted. “Not for at least a while.”
“How can you know that?”
“I have a feeling I know what he’s planning, and it requires some measure of time to accomplish.”
“What is it?” I pressed, turning my gaze back to him.
“What it is,” Erik shot at me frustratedly, “is not for you to worry about. What I am worried about right now is that very obvious poisoned wound licking into your shoulder, tampering with your blood. Soon it’s going to reach your heart, and soon your heart is going to stop.”
I watched as he worked on my wound, and found myself instinctually shifting a little closer. The look on his face, the way of his words, everything pulled me toward him without me telling my body to move.
